It was the same with me. Before Different Eyes, I wasn't particularly interested in Firefly. After I read it, I was like, "That sounds interesting." Then I went and downloaded all the episodes and the movie and even the comic that goes in between. I totally love them! They're hilarious! I love the episode that started with Mal walking bare-(butt)-naked!

I swear, I'll buy the dvds. Just not yet.
