i meant the whole just dressing up to go for candy part door to door. Before it was more traditions. There used to be parties held on the night of halloween, but then parents sent off children to keep them busy.

I know masks and such were used to ward off spirits and such, its just the whole 'here go to people we might not know and ask for candy' that always got me in the back of the brain once i got old enough.
