. . and that while he's thinking all that he's doing this for Anita's sake, he's also thinking that he'll have to talk to Nathaniel about what may or may not have happened to Dawn. It's all very awwwwwwwwww . . y'know, in that special screwed-up Anita'verse way, but still. Thank you!

Yay!
JC in a situation where he can't be sauve and sophisticated
Nothing will destroy a man's facade like an insane five-year-old. She's... a bit nuts.

I loved the domesticity of JC and Anita's interactions
At this point in their relationship, he's the closest she has to a husband. He's long-term and he loves her. Quite possibly as long term as she can get. Of all the men, I think he can deal with her the best of all the men -- I think it has a lot to do with him being able to handle his crazy lady.

and I loved JC being careful of Dawn and first, all unsure what would traumatize her

From what we've read of JC in canon, he had a childhood of pain. Being the whipping boy, being the catamite for Belle Morte, he's the poster boy for trauma. And I have this idea in my head for him being protective of Dawn.

I do love this story.
