Deeply enjoyed this tale, though the John/Rory scene did inspire me to mentally play Barry White in the background. :D

I think you handled the "Don't Ask/Don't Tell" aspects well. I particularly liked John asking Herrera if he had done anything to bring the Corps in disrepute. Herrera's reaction is spot on for a dedicated Marine. However he deals with his sexuality, the honour of the Corps remains paramount to him.
