To Grandmother's House We Go
An Anita Blake drabble

Note: [livejournal.com profile] sabriel_0405 said a lovely thing the other hour, and it pushed me into drabbling.

He stared at his thirteen-year-old daughter, sitting sullenly in the airport. She didn't want to be here, didn't want to go to Mexico while all her friends were at summer camp. He didn't want to be here either.

Anita looked so normal that his stomach churned. But she wasn't normal. Like stories Maria had told about her mother, stories of unnatural darkness.

"Can I get a Coke?" Anita asked suddenly.

He swallowed his panic. "Sure, sweetie."

"Thanks, Daddy."

He watched Anita, so young, so... innocent. Who would have imagined that she could do something as horrible as raising the dead?

Plus, I stayed late at work today, and made a banner for "Hey Little Sister". It's kinda goofy, but what can you do with B&W images?

It looks like this:

And it's on the story now. Whee!

But I am curious. What did sabriel_0405 say to prompt this?

Guh. See, she said this on a drabble she wrote for abvh100:

Author's note: Though this is far from my best drabble, I want to dedicate it to mhalachaiswords. In my opinion, Mhal set the standard to which the rest of us drabblers aspire. What she can do in 100 words a lot of published authors can’t do in a 1000. In a few words she conveys emotions, senses, and other tangibles. The fandoms she is moving into have no idea the treat they are in for. Thanks Mhal, for being a great moderator and an inspiring writer.

and so that made me think "I totally have to drabble to make myself worthy of such praise!"

And then the drabble came out.

And then I'm all like "hrm family issues."

My mind jumps all over the place, like a 3-year-old hyped up on espresso. With a puppy.

Yeah, we all know. But it's an awesome 3-year-old with, like, the best espresso made in a french press.
And the puppy a big-assed wolfhound puppy.
Or possibly one of those little wiener dogs, however you roll.

Puppies!

If I had a puppy, I'd cuddle and pet it and name it George. And I'd drink coffee the whole. damn. time.
