Anita Blake drabbles: #001 -- Never Said

The first of the drabbles as suggested in this post. I'm going to be doing these slowly. I'm not very imaginitive these days. If you want a drabble, comment in the other post and I'll get to it one day.

[livejournal.com profile] jessara40k suggested Jessica Arnet's reaction to Nathaniel.

Title: Never Said
Note: Jessica Arnet's thoughts on Nathaniel at Guilty Pleasures (post ID)

She came whenever she wasn't working. She stayed back, so he wouldn't see her, drag her up into the lights. She told herself it was because she was a cop. But she didn't want to sit in front because she didn't know what she would do, not if he asked her up, but if he didn't.

She wasn't ready, the night Anita was there. Nathaniel pulled Anita on stage, and the look in his eyes wasn't fake anymore, not when he looked at Anita.

She felt as if he had lied to her, when he had never said a word.

Oooh that's good!

Thanks! That's actually the first line that occured to me, and I built the drabble around it :)

And that's what eats her up inside isn't it? You've hit the nail on the head, I think, and in only 100 words. Brava!

I'm almost tempted to say "poor Arnet", but I'm really with Nathaniel and Anita on this one.

I love drabbles. They are an art form unto themselve.

Love it. It seems that more than concern for his well being keeps bringing Jessica back to Nathaniel.

It would seem so, yes. I often wonder why LKH brought in Arnet. As a counter-point, for Anita to see that some women really do see Nate as incredibley attractive? Or for something more? I can't help but hope for more, myself.
