top ten signs that Mhal's at work..... lj posts!

Time for a post that's light and fluffy!

Stolen from [livejournal.com profile] theregoesyamum: the Ten ways you know you're reading a Mhalachai fic.

1. There is some weird Anita Blake crossover action going on.
2. Asher's jealous of Harry/Micah/Nathaniel/ducks/rocks
3. The story looks as if it's been hit with the comma stick.
4. If there's angst, it's balanced with a liberal helping of fluff. Except if that story is Candlelight. Or Switchback.
5. There are minor "inconsequential" details that will come back to kick you in the ass eight chapters later.
6. People move around. A lot.
7. It's OC-lite.
8. At least once, you say to yourself, "Huh. Didn't see that one coming."
9. The characters aren't stupid, just ignorant of what's going on around them.
10. The chapters are really, really long.

11) You read the Chapter, and go '.. but... but...' and not because it was empty of content.

Ah, the but-buts. If it makes you feel any better, I've done that on occasion to my own work, after I've finished a chapter.

12. You think "Damn, if only LKH could write this well..."

[identity profile] mhalachaiswords.livejournal.com 2006-01-20 04:19 pm (UTC)(link)
You're making me blush.

13. You realize that you don't need to know the fandom she is using because it is its own world and complete.

[identity profile] mhalachaiswords.livejournal.com 2006-01-22 02:40 am (UTC)(link)
Huzzuh? Which of my fandoms don't you know?

[identity profile] catherinecookmn.livejournal.com 2006-01-22 03:34 am (UTC)(link)
Well, I mostly learned about Firefly through your writing, so there's one. And I haven't watched very much Smallville. But that's the point: One needn't know the fandoms backwards and forwards to enjoy your stories.

For instance: Where you have Anita and Company in the Firefly universe, you provide enough information on the Reavers' techniques and tactics, and on Anita's skills, to make it quite clear how Anita is likely the most powerful force possible against these clowns.

14. It's at least a 100 word spot of sunshine in your day, and you can expect some more within the same week.

15. You happily let your grade point average and/or attentiveness at
the work place slide because you keep re-reading stories

Is it a bad thing that I let my attention wander at work while thinking about how to plot the next chapter? I did that today. Bad, bad mhalachai :)

16. You were once thinking of giving up fanfiction for good. Than you read Mhalachai's work.

[identity profile] mhalachaiswords.livejournal.com 2006-01-21 01:32 am (UTC)(link)
Don't give up fanfic! It's a fun ride (or can be)

(also, you're making me blush)

17. You squee audibly when you find an update only days after the last one. (cause she's quick like that)

Audible squeeage? You get extra bonus points if you squee loudly in a quiet library. Or snort tea on your keyboard at work. (I did that last one today)

Does my dorm room with the door open and people in the hallway count? LoL...I think my floor mates think I'm nutters, I really do.

I know mine think I am ;) We'll be studying in the lounge and they'll all jump when I accidentally snort trying not to laugh so hard. They've concluded that I find history funny . . .

2. Asher's jealous of Harry/Micah/Nathaniel/ducks/rocks

*bursts out laughing*

So true.

[identity profile] mhalachaiswords.livejournal.com 2006-01-27 04:41 am (UTC)(link)
It is! He's jealous of *everything* because of his fear that Anita will leave him. At least, that's how I see him. But you have to admit, it's backed up in the books. (Or is it? I need to reread those books soon)
