22. Tell us about the obscure fandom/ship you love that you wish there was MOAR fic for. (Or any fic at all.)

A few years ago, when Unforgettable came out (the one with the woman who remembers every moment of her life and she’s a cop and it’s a thing) I was totally into and there was *no* fic. At all. I went through a phase where I wanted to write ALL the fic, and then I didn’t.

I also wish there was more genderswap fic out there. I love exploring those dynamics in characterization. My current love is female Tony Stark; there are some lovely fics on AO3 with a girl Tony, but what can I say, I’m selfish and want more.

I missed yesterday's blogging prompt (mostly because I couldn't think of any other recs other than the ones I posted on the fourth so I figured that I'd just pop in to say hi to everyone. I'm in the middle of the last chapter of Baba Yaga's Children, which has been delayed due to a) work (from which I am taking a vacation day today), b) technology woes, and c) my inability to finish things. But I know exactly what happens in this chapter so in theory, I just need to keep at it. I think I'll have it out on Monday, if not sooner.

Then I need to figure out what I want to work on next. I'm trying to decide between going back to Rhapsody in Blue (my Agent Carter piece) or Child of the Wolf (the Avengers/Teen Wolf crossover). I'm planning to tackle the next part of the Widow's Tale series (tentatively called Old Soldiers as it is, after all, about soldiers who are rather old) during the Christmas break. I need to let that installment percolate a little bit.

When did you create your LJ, and what brought you here? How did you get your username? Has it changed?

I made this lj back on... *checks the log* 13 December 2004.

Okay now I feel old.

I had a personal blog before that on LJ and wanted to start posting my fics here, back when LJ was a fandom hotspot.

My username... I had been active in the Profiler fandom back in the day as Zarah, but I wanted to change that up as I had moved away from that fandom. I was on an old testament kick and wanted to use Malachi, but that was taken on LJ so I transliterated to Mhalachai (as my personal blog). When I created my fandom blog I added " 's words" onto my username only it ended up looking like "swords" and I was like whatever.

Been Mhalachai ever since (even on the tumblr)

Random fact of the day: Nothing makes me change the channel faster than the Juicy Fruit commercials. I hate that jingle so much.

Hey everyone. I'm wrapping up edits for a new instalment of the Widow series. It was supposed to be a short piece on how to reconcile two different canons, each with their particular Asgard/Thor mythos, only it kinda... exploded. Over 20K words that literally sets up everything else in the series I've got planned. Angst. Mega angst. And Feelings. And SO MUCH DIALOGUE god these guys never shut up.

Also, writing scenes in which you have seven characters dialoging is painful in ways I can't even begin to describe.

Anyway. Part one (of two) will be up soon. Featuring this guy:

How's everyone doing these days?

Hallo the internet!

MEME:

Ask me my Top Five Whatevers. Fannish or literary or otherwise. Any top fives. Doesn't matter what, really! Fandoms, books I might get around to writing one day, women in my fandoms, ideal holiday destinations, goals for the future, celebrity crushes, books I wish would be made into movies, love songs. And I will answer them all in a new post (or in comments). Possibly with pictures.

In other news, work has swallowed me whole. I am madly in love with this season of Doctor Who. And still cannot write a freaking thing.

Anyway, MEME.

still obsessed with Stargate Atlantis...

You ever mentally plan a fanfic and it's so real in your head, you're halfway convinced that you've already written it? That's me. It's not like it's a long fic (like, 8,000 words). I should really get on that...

I have created a Delicious account with all my fanfic recs. http://delicious.com/Sirati. I'm slowly putting in all my bookmarked fics, and it's interesting to see what patterns are emerging. The House/Wilson/Cuddy fic cluster surprised me, I'll say.

Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] ranlynn for her banner for Pocket Watch Boy (Doctor Who/Torchwood)! Check it out :)

Oh, NCIS. You almost made it interesting. That said, I was almost about to watch the new NCIS spin-off Legend and then the END with the GUNS (before the Ziva bit) made me go "screw THAT".

That noise you heard at 4pm was me "saving my username" on Dreamwidth. I'll be posting everything at LJ, at least until LiveJournal starts kicking kittens for Satan or something similar. So please don't stop checking my updates here :)

And because I just wrote that, there will be fic of some kind this weekend. Promise.

PS: Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] foi_nefaste for being so awesome with the DW invite :P
pps CONTAINS SPOILERS for tonight's NCIS!!!!!1eleventy!

I'm re-watching season 1 of Star Trek: The Next Generation, and all those things I didn't see when I was eight are really apparent now. Like, the Holodeck's sex-doll potential? Yeah. Ew.

Have some unrelated potentially meaningful XKCD

Okay, I get it. I like vampires. I totally dig them. However, now that I am back from seeing Twilight, I absolutely do not need to write a post-movie Twilight/Anita Blake crossover in which Federal Marshal Blake comes to Forks to solve those "animal" killings and realizes that she's met one of those daywalking Cullens before. Anita/Alice for the epic-tastic win.

Most of all, the image of Esme playing "mom" with Rosaline and Alice at a school mother-daughter movie night is melting my brain. I'm so screwed.

In other news, I'm looking forward to the release of the Pomegranate SmartPhone. Some say it's the next iPhone. Check out some of the apps, they're killer.

I've declared November to be National "Work on my WIPs" Writing Month, or NaWoWriMo. It's sort of like NaNoWriMo, only with more of a lisp.

I've started out well. I hammered together a thousand words for Dawning Light 14, and this chapter is much more upbeat that past chapters, thankfully. I'm done with doing mean (fictional) things to (fictional) children. This chapter is going to be a good one, and we get some plot movement. Fun times.

I've also mapped out the next chapter of Physics of the Spin. I'm not utterly certain that doing a Ronon POV is a good idea as I have never really understood that character, but I'm trying. I'm also going to address Sam Carter's suspicions of Rory (from chapter 11)... I'm a little worried because it looks like Sam might be jealous of Rory and Rory's already verging a bit on Mary Sue territory... so I have to do that delicately. But maybe it's true to an outsider it could be seen like that. Say you're Sam Carter. Say you've worked as hard as you could over a career in the military and in science, and in comes this young thing who's smarter than you without the hard work. Doesn't a little bit of envy cross your mind? Especially if you were stuck in another galaxy for months on end while your former team is falling over themselves for this kid?

(okay so yes, I know that Rory has the potential to be more than bordering on Mary Sue. Trust me, there's a point of some kind to be had.)

I mean, McKay can be jealous all he wants. He's (somewhat) threatened by his own sister's intelligence. But with Sam it's different. Gender politics in fic are hard to balance.

What else am I working on.... Yeah, trying to write Inevitable. Those last four chapters are just stuck in my head.

Those are my WIPs that are going to be updated this month. I might also work on a few one-shots... I've got some ideas. We'll see.

TL;DR: 1,000 words today!

If you watched Sanctuary last year, and/or you're paying attention to what's happening in the world of Amanda Tapping, you'll know that Sanctuary is going to be on the television this year!

The point of my second non-fic post of the day is: The Globe and Mail, one of Canada's two national papers, has written an article for the BC Section on this very show.

Finding Sanctuary on TV: The Vancouver-based sci-fi series is a hit on the Web, and is now making the big leap to the small screen.

I'm pretty stoked about this, and not only because I'm a huge fangirl of Amanda Tapping.

Sanctuary - tomorrow night!

I think I'll write a science fiction novel, but this one will be set in the Obverse (instead of the Universe) and there will be much inversality.

K, so, anyway, this is a bit of an explanatory post about stuff these days and why the lack of writing the WIPS:

Explaination cut )

So that's how things stand. Interestingly enough, I have an interview across town in 2 hours I need to get moving for! Wish me luck :)

And now a meme taken from [livejournal.com profile] m_ravensblood:

You post a topic, list, category, whatever, in comments. It can be real life stuff (Top Five People I'd Like To Dine With, Top Five Musical Pieces Ever Written, etc.) or fandom (Top Five OTPs, Top Five Things Anita's Going To Hit Harry with once/if they get out of Hogwarts, etc.)

Then, in a separate post, I'll post the answers to all your Top 5 ideas, according to me.

Back in a few hours!

Really?

I've started watching Bones. So far, I'm totally in love with the show and have no desire to fic it. This must be what a normal person feels like.

Pointless post? Yes it is. Go play Sudoku.

I never knew how many of my f-listers were from Australia until there was an election. Have fun with your new government, guys.

Today's dictionary/historical lolz:

Parr, Catherine: (1512-48), sixth wife of Henry VIII, who married him in 153 and survived him.

[emphasis mine]

I'm such a nerd.

Yeah, I know. He only decpaitated two of his wives, but it's still funny :)

If this week ever ends it will be a miracle of biblical proportions.

This is pretty cool -- an on-line vocab game that will donate 10 grains of rice to the UN World Food Programme for every question you get right.

FreeRice <-- play here

BBC story on the game

I got to 350 grains of rice and the questions got too hard for me. And I call myself a writer :P

Anyway, something to pass the time that will do something good for someone else.
