A Stargate Atlantis/Harry Potter story

Missing Scene: #22 - Ronon notices things about John
Summary: Ronon notices things about Sheppard, things that no one else sees.

Disclaimer: Sony and MGM own all things Stargate Atlantis. J.K. Rowling owns all Harry Potter. I'm only borrowing and will return them at the end of the fic.
Spoilers: Slight spoilers for SGA 3.04 (Sateda), nothing for HP. This doesn't have any HP in it expressly, but it's part of that crossover universe.
Word count:: 475
Note: Takes place between Songs Across the Oceans and Ancient Blood.

~*~

It's the little things, things Sheppard himself probably doesn't know he's doing. How the doors in the City of the Ancestors open for him when he approaches. How panels light up, begging for his touch. McKay may rant about how the Colonel's Ancient genes make the city respond, but McKay doesn't see what Ronon sees.

Not how the city responds to John.

But how John responds to the city and the people in it.

In his years on the Run, Ronon forgot what a home was like. Without Melena, without his people, there could never be a home again. Or so he thought.

Then Sheppard came, dragged Ronon back to Atlantis, made him think about living, not just surviving.

Ronon can't understand how Sheppard does it. It makes no sense, the way Sheppard turns everyone upside down, makes cowards and children follow him, makes them into heroes in their own right. Sheppard says it was something in every one of them... but Ronon knows heroes, and he knows cowards. He knows that people needed a leader to be great, and that purpose can turn dark and broken with the wrong sort of influence.

Sheppard is a leader. But what Ronon knows in his blood is that that Sheppard has done this before, has led the hopeless to victory, regardless the cost.

These are things that Ronon sees.

But there is more to it than that.

~~

Gradually, Ronon realizes what it is. Sometimes, Sheppard will reach for something that was just out of reach... and suddenly it will be in his hand. it's just by a fraction of a cetar, but it's enough.

Or like when he's trying to get the attention of people, and the walls of the room he's in change just a little, for the sound to carry better.

Or when Sheppard seems to read the minds of his men, solves problems before they arise, sooths egos and pushes people to their full potential.

Ronon's people had words for people like Sheppard. People who could move things with their minds, move people with their thoughts, twist the fabric of reality into tatters. For eons, Satedans had sought out these men and women, had slaughtered them in their beds to prevent the spread of their contagion of evil.

Ronon had never met a man who could move reality like that, until John Sheppard.

And he does nothing but watch.

He knows evil. He knows what men can derive from power, and he knows, through bitter experience, how such men can destroy everything.

So when Sheppard pulls a cup towards him using his mind, when he coaxes the city into changing the color of the walls just a fraction so it's easier to read, when John Sheppard make things better than they were before...

Ronon watches. And he does nothing, except willingly follow where Sheppard will lead him.

the end

Shiny! I wasn't really expecting the tone past, "Ronon's people had words for people like Sheppard." That? Is more than a little creepy.
The ending is prosh though. Feel the Shep love! Feel it!

[identity profile] mhalachaiswords.livejournal.com 2006-12-14 12:01 am (UTC)(link)
yeah, the tone thing... well, Ronon's the only one left, so I guess it would be past. Poor kid.

Oh, I'm all about the Shep love. He's so shiny :) And, in the context of this story, in need of a hug.

I really love this 'verse. Sheppard definitely needs a hug, and Ronon's tone is wonderful in this. I really need to see season 2 Atlantis...I'm so deprived!!

[identity profile] mhalachaiswords.livejournal.com 2006-12-14 01:00 am (UTC)(link)
Glad you enjoyed :) And you totally need to see SGA season 2. So fun and goofy. And full of the SGA boys. They're so pretty.

[identity profile] dizzy-lizard.livejournal.com 2006-12-14 12:34 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah! Lovely little scene. I like this 'verse... and like getting mini-presents of new fic when I log on after work. Thanks.

[identity profile] mhalachaiswords.livejournal.com 2006-12-14 01:01 am (UTC)(link)
You're quite welcome. I like this story, with Harry being John and John being hairy Harry and still so emo and such a leader.

Plus, Ronon. Good times.

[identity profile] cissasghost.livejournal.com 2006-12-14 01:50 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, neat. Is the random unit of measurement canon, or did you make that up? 'cause it's cool. Also, I love Ronon. I think your interpretation of how he'd react in that situation is pretty much dead on. He's .. practical.

[identity profile] mhalachaiswords.livejournal.com 2006-12-14 05:24 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks :) I made the mesurement up; I was planning on going back and adding "half of an Earther inch" but then I forgot. And it works, so whatever :D

Ronon is awesome. He takes what he knows and he applies what he sees and then he comes to his own laconic conclusion and saves the day. Much Ronon love.

Squeee! My Shepp/Ronan sense is tingling, even though I know it's not supposed to be shippy.

In other words, it made me smile. ^_____^

[identity profile] mhalachaiswords.livejournal.com 2006-12-14 05:26 am (UTC)(link)
Hee. We see shippiness where we want to. And frankly... this could apply :D

Glad you enjoyed.

"Sheppard has done this before, has led the hopeless to victory, regardless the cost."

Shivery.

Which fits with the Harry backstory in this case. He won, but at what cost?

Glad you liked.

[identity profile] calanor.livejournal.com 2006-12-14 03:35 am (UTC)(link)
a Sweet addition to this great story!!!

[identity profile] mhalachaiswords.livejournal.com 2006-12-14 05:43 am (UTC)(link)
I'm glad you enjoyed it :)

[identity profile] elenariel.livejournal.com 2006-12-14 09:51 am (UTC)(link)
Nice, I love your little addition to the overall story, in a way makes me wonder what Ronon would have thought after Ancient Blood. Anyway, I like how Ronon notices these things.;)

[identity profile] mhalachaiswords.livejournal.com 2006-12-14 07:27 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm glad you enjoyed :) iirc, in AB Ronon was all like, "Magic, okay. Now what?" That sort of thing.

In his own little laconic way, of course.

[identity profile] penyn-1600.livejournal.com 2006-12-15 05:11 am (UTC)(link)
OOoh! Very tenterhook-y. Ronan's intense scrutiny of John welling from equal parts suspicion and curiosity is very cool.

[identity profile] mhalachaiswords.livejournal.com 2006-12-15 07:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks :) I figured that underneath that large head of hair, there is some serious observation going on. Plus, who wouldn't want to watch Sheppard?

[identity profile] penyn-1600.livejournal.com 2006-12-16 01:12 am (UTC)(link)
:D I know I would want to Sheppard. But yeah, Ronan (from the few episodes I have seen) always seemed like a bit of a thinker.

*bounces*

This was a sweet missing scene. The little things that John most likely doesn't even realize he's doing... Sweet!

[identity profile] mhalachaiswords.livejournal.com 2006-12-17 03:26 am (UTC)(link)
I can see Harry/John being just this side of clueless when it comes to unconcious magic. Plus, as we've seen, Harry was a total leader.

Glad you liked :D

[identity profile] lishel_fracrium.livejournal.com 2006-12-16 07:37 am (UTC)(link)
very, very nice. so will we see more of this universe?

[identity profile] mhalachaiswords.livejournal.com 2006-12-17 04:48 am (UTC)(link)
Glad you liked it :D Not sure if we'll see more about this. I've got a few ideas, but at this point I'm not sure.

SGA and HP!! SHEP!!

(Anonymous) 2006-12-16 10:56 pm (UTC)(link)
me like me lik!! very good fic :D you know, i really should take a look at SGA season 2 but then again i haven't finished season one >.<
(Grumbles about how they [sci-fi channel] killed stargate sg1 and demands that they bring it back...sga [although great on its own] isn't a fun without sg1 as backup)

[identity profile] zephyrrs.livejournal.com 2006-12-19 05:26 am (UTC)(link)
Brilliant!!!

I love this verse to begin with and now you've added an entire additional layer of love to it!

And Ronon is wonderful. How he notices, watches and chooses to follow. Absolutely brillinat.

PS -- I adore the heroes and gods icon!!!

[identity profile] mhalachaiswords.livejournal.com 2006-12-19 06:23 am (UTC)(link)
Glad you liked it! I had fun writing Ronon. He's such a laconic mess.

Thanks about the icon. John and Elizabeth do have epic roles in the fate of a galaxy, as befits a hero (and to another extent, the aforementioned god)

I love you so much!

Seriously i like this verse very much so, and Ronon seeing underneath things is so in charater, so right... Guile from the anonymous post is dead on, shivery.

[identity profile] anotherdreamer5.livejournal.com 2007-03-05 05:49 am (UTC)(link)
I've read all of your cross over pieces between these two worlds, but I don't know if I've left you a comment on them. I think that you're amazing and very, very subtle. You don't beat people over the head with IT'S HARRY. Rather you show the same characteristics. You show the hero. You show the devotion he inspires. You show people noticing. People who should be afraid to follow but aren't because they trust Sheppard. They trust Harry. Yeah, I think you're a brilliant writer and I want to see more of your stuff.

[identity profile] sulien77.livejournal.com 2007-03-05 03:34 pm (UTC)(link)
YES, BRILLIANT!!!

Ahem...sorry for shouting, but if I tried to go into why, I'd fill the comment completely and not be able to articulate it properly anyway.

[identity profile] mhalachaiswords.livejournal.com 2007-03-05 06:06 pm (UTC)(link)
:D I really like this piece myself. It's interesting to see how other characters view a main POV character. It also helps to understand Ronon a little more, and we all love Ronon.

Thanks for your kind words :)

Loved this little tidbit. ^^ I wish it was longer, but it's nice.
