I'm writing the Hogsmeade visit chapter of Inevitable. I'm 4,264 words in and we're not even *at* Hogsmeade yet. This is going to be a bear of a chapter. Needless to say, it won't be up today.

Now, a shiny HP drabble for my favourite guy: Neville.

Title: Remembrall
Characters: Neville Longbottom
Rating: G

Author's Note: I'm one of those people who subscribe to the "Neville Longbottom saw his parents tortured by Bellatrix Lestrange and then had his memory modified" school of thought. This is written in that vein.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Neville was ignoring his Charms homework, instead staring at his Remembrall.
The smoke in the glass sphere was a dull grey-red, like always. It never went white, like it was supposed to. Neville supposed it was broken.
Behind him, Ron and Harry joked about something Ron's dad had said. Neville wished he could remember his own dad, from before, but all he could think of his mum and dad was from those visits to St. Mungo's, and a lonely pile of gum wrappers Neville hid in his drawer.
As Neville tried to remember his parents, the Remembrall's smoke burned blood-red.
Guh. Beautiful, elegant, and very true to Neville's character. Lovely.
This is going on my favorites list. I love it, succinct and it lets the reader in on a secret that the character doesn't know. Absolutely beautiful writing.
Thank you. Neville is an amazing character, and I hope he has a large role in book 7. If not, well.
Thank you. I really need Neville to take centre stage more often. *hugs Neville* *although not really because he's 16* *and also a fictional character*
Neville wouldn't mind, I'm sure. :-)
I once wrote a story where Neville's parents were cured by, of all things, a regimen of antianxiety drugs and atypical antipsychotics such as olanzapine (which really is a wonder drug). This impressed Neville so much that he decided to take up Muggle psychiatry.
That was the Hannibal Lecter crossover, wasn't it? I remember that one fondly.
Thanks for the Neville drabble; it seems pretty plausible. Actually, that's the sort of pattern Hermione might pick up on, I think. I subscribe to that memory-charm theory myself. There's a really elaborate take on it in Gramarye's _Harry Potter and the Legacy of Light_.
I was thinking about this today, and wondered what really might have happened if Neville had been there when his parents were being tortured. Might Bellatrix have made him watch? Or might she have aimed the curse at the child, to get his parents to talk?
Either way, it's a disturbing idea.
As always, your power as a writer shines through in this little scene it's rather wonderfully written. Once you've finished Inevitable I think it would be wonderful if you'd write you're own novel, as I really think you have what it takes. You're fantastic.
Thank you so much. I am planning a book, a mystery, that I hope will spark people's interest (so they buy it and love meeee). That's on tap for after Inevitable. Aka, Invevitable is to be finished first. Soon. Soonest :)
