A fic rec: Remember those one sentence things I did for AB? [livejournal.com profile] uforeah has done a set for Anita/Micah and you should go read them here

Did you know that the Tenth Dr. Who is played by the same actor as Barty Crouch Jr. in HP/GoF? Dude.

Some poll questions, just because I have no fic for you today:

[Poll #699998]

If I was god, I'd make Joss Whedon go back and do a DVD commentary of every episode of every show he's ever made. His insight fascinates me.

Also, lastly, Tanya Huff has an LJ! Squee! And they're making a TV show based on the Blood books! Squeesquee!

Next Inevitable chapter by Friday!

Question OneIf JKR makes Snape 'good' in book seven, I'll be SO disappointed. Seriously. I think Snape being evil is much more interesting than him pretending to be evil but really being good. So I answered evil based on my dislike of Snape (that and all those 'snape is misunderstood fics').

Question Two: I picked option four because it's more surprising and more interesting than option one. I think it would be amusing if Elsa was forced to save Harry because she had to.

Question Three: HP wank, Inevitable, Hugs. I love HP wank. I'm addicted to it. There's nothing like it. I don't participate in it, I just watch it as an amused (and sometimes frightened) observer. Inevitable - no need to explain my reasoning for this. And hugs - There are never enough hugs.

1: She probably will make Snape "good" in book 7, probably in line with the supposed redemption of Draco. I'd be in favour of that, except for the minor killing of Dumbledore bit. I dunno. All I know is what dirction I'm taking Snape in my fic.

2: I think it would pain Elsa to no end if Harry got himself in so deep he needed help to get out, then she had to go drag him out by the ankle. It would prove her point that he's too stupid to live, really (but secretly she'd be a little bit pleased that he's not a hypocrite and be all stand-up-for-himself)

3: Wank is strangely adicting. It's like, a) how can people think like that and b) how can so many others agree?

First off, I just want to give a big "I loathe you" to however didn't check the little ticky box thing for more Inevitable.

Secondly, I know Tonks in the vagina that proved to the world that Remus is straight, but that doesn't mean I have to like it. That urked my almost as much a JKR's desion the put Harry and Ginerva together. I just don't feel comfortable with it.

Amen. I want more BtVS & AtS commentaries. I've been spoiled by Stargate's "let's do a commentary for every single episode" habit.

Before Ms. Rowling decided to have our dear Tonks go head of heals (no comment on Tonks' clummsieness or lack there or intended) in love with Mr. Lupin in the HBP, many people were under the impression that Mr. Black and Mr. Lupin were...shall we say "involved." I was not on that particular band wagon, but Ms. Rowling's decision to have Ms. Tonks take up intimate relations with Mr. Lupin does, in point, make Ms. Tonks "the vagina that proved to the world Remus is straight," and thus making that particular pairing cannon.

It was your use of the word "in" in the original comment that confused me.

Where did this phrase originate? Reducing the value of one of the female characters to her reproductive organs because of her role in breaking up the world's biggest slash non-couple seems unnecessarily crass and more than a little misogynistic to me.

Date: 2006-03-29 02:27 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] deathinapinkboa.livejournal.com
I apligise for the confusing "in." I am mildly dyslexic...so I tend to have rather profound proreading flaws that I utterly fail to note.

If it makes you feel any better, I am also rather partial to the phrase "Moony, the penis that told the world Tonks is straight."

As for the orgin of either phrase...I don't know, I've seen both of them on icons...somewhere...a long time ago...as in months...possibly last year.

Being a male, I have no problem with reducing a female character to her reproductive organs. Why you ask? Because bye doing that we chappies can put the girls on an equal playing field. Everyone knows that most men are, when you break everything down, essential walking dildos...very low qualitie dildos. It is comforting to bring females down to our level.

Oh, Snape will turn out to have been acting on Dumbledore's orders. And he will he very much alive, as will be Draco (and Harry, and all the Weasleys, Remus, Hermione, McGonagall, and most of the other remaining goodies), at the end of Book Seven. You can take that to the bank, my friends. :-)

Dumbledore knew he was Dead Man Walking from the time his hand got fried; at the very least, it reminded him he was mortal. And after he made Harry feed him the poison from the Birdbath of Doom, it was a certainty. And of course there's that little matter of the Unbreakable Vow. Snape obviously told him about it as soon as he could; he knows about it when Harry brings it up. Dumbledore also tells Harry that he, Albus Dumbledore, is "expendable". And he was ready to die rather than let Draco take the first step down the Dark path. (Note that Snape and Dumbledore both made sure that neither Draco nor Harry could do anything during the big fight?)

Speaking of the Unbreakable Vow, that's the biggest proof of Snape's being on the side of the good guys. Evil!Voldie!Fanatic Snape -- a Snape as nutty about Voldie as Bellatrix is -- would never dream of opposing the Dark Lord's will. Evil!Opportunist Snape wouldn't do it, either -- he's not going to stick his neck out for a little brat, no matter how alluring his mother happens to be. But Good! But!Surly Snape would do it, in part because he likes Narcissa, in part because he really doesn't want to see Draco become a full-fledged Death Eater, in part because he thinks he can find a loophole in the Vow, but also, I suspect, because he knows that Dumbledore would have wanted him to do what he could to protect Draco.

"in"

Most of my lj friends (as well as myself) tend to not bother to reread the typing at all; heck, I manage to put slip ups in my *fics* that I can't see, so no worries there.

Don't mind me, I'm a bit too eager to jump on the feminist bandwagon these days... long and detailed story. Never mind it.

Part of my defensiveness is the utter vitrol I've seen come out of the more rabid Wolfstar fans about Tonks, totally slagging the character because she "broke up" their OTP, never mind that Siruis had been dead for like a year. Oh, the HP fen and their subtle detatchment from reality.

(Note that Snape and Dumbledore both made sure that neither Draco nor Harry could do anything during the big fight?)

Oh, yes -- Also note how many of Snape's taunts in the post-Dumbledore-death scene are actually him secretly trying to drum instructions into Harry's head while hoping that none of the Death Eaters present catch on to what he's doing. He tells Harry not to attempt Unforgivables, then tells Harry he'll keep failing at certain spells unless/until he learns to "close your mouth and your mind, Potter". Translation: "Practice your nonverbals and Occlumency, you little twit -- I won't be around to bail you out all the time as I have been these past six years."

*patts your shoulder* yes yes yes. The [i]"HP fen"[/w] do have I bit of trouble with that. I myself just admitted that Harry may, in fact, not shag Draco Malfoy, like ever. That said, he still likes boys, and nobody can convince me otherwise. ever. He may be Bi...but Harry Potter is not, and has never been, nor will ever be, a heterosexual. J.K.R. admitted herself that she bases Harry of her self on her website www.jkrowling.com , so he must like boys. I'll shut it now while I still have some dignity left.

I heartily recommend any DVD commentary with Peter DeLuise. The man is hilarious. Put him with Amanda Tapping and I'm in heaven. Though, I'd stay away from the commentary for 2010. It's just... boring.

Though, the most boring commentary EVER is Joss, Alexis, and Amy for 'A Hole In The World'. It was so boring and mind numbing that it brought tears to my eyes.

So I assume I should go back to all the Firefly episodes I just finished watching and listen to all the commentaries?

And seriously, I know have to give you, like, the biggest thank you EVER! I hadn't watched Firefly, or even wanted to watch Firefly at all before I read the crossover you did between it and AB. Then, I went and rented Serenity cause it was the only thing I could get my hands on. Birthday money arrived in the mail for me, and as I was out yesterday looking for seasons of Stargate (which I didn't find...anywhere) I found Firefly! This was yesterday afternoon...and I'm now done. I'm in love. So thank you, if it wasn't for your fic, I wouldn't have found this series. ♥

Alrighty! So, I think Elsa is for sore going to end up saving Harry's behind, and be grumpy and snarky the whole time! My answer for Snape wasn't there (annoying git) so I put the middle one...since he's so NOT in love with Harry (at least not in this fic). Yay for more Inevitable! =D

the Birdbath of Doom
*snerk*

Speaking of the Unbreakable Vow, that's the biggest proof of Snape's being on the side of the good guys.

I love this one (srsly). Snape's good *because* he killed Dumbledore.

This is one of the most interesting plotlines. Dumbledore sacrifices himself to save Draco, who is, in Harry's eyes, a sniveling little asshole. No one would have questioned if it was Harry, but Draco... Because Dumbledore saw something redeemable in the boy, and the man he might become.

Dignity is overrated.

Frankly, I think Harry and Nathaniel would be really hot together... (Tell you a secret, that's for the sequel to Inevitable).

And there has to be a reason that Harry's so damned bad with girls, isn't there? Cho? That mess with Ginny? He needs to admit he's gay and get on with it :P

Seriously, I agree with you that Harry's sexuality can be fluid. And frankly, a bisexual Harry Potter suits my needs to a T.

I haven't seen Startgate since season 5 when they stopped showing it up here in Vancouver. I keep meaning to buy the DVDs, but... And I tried to write my SG1/FF crossover, but the team dynamic felt off. Maybe I'll find a *gasp* beta.

I'll do great on my cover letter. I just need to make myself write the damned thing. I want to write Inevitable, but I don't want to write this chapter. I have to do something I don't want... but that needs to be done. (And I'm worried that maybe, if I can write this chapter, I'm not a good a person as I want to think I am).

Spawn is twisted... but not nearly as twisted as Snarry *hides from the Snarry fans*

Listen to the commentaries with Joss. The first show (Serenity), then the last show (Objects in Space). Joss's insight into the show (which was really his baby) makes things seem a whole lot more real.

I'm always glad to pimp the Firefly love. There's something just so perfect about the story, the world. The vision of the world is classic.

if it wasn't for your fic, I wouldn't have found this series.

I live to introduce people to new fandom! (Firefly is a good one; one season and one movie -- then all you have is fanfic!)

Elsa is for sure going to end up saving Harry's behind, and be grumpy and snarky the whole time!

You've just put your finger on Elsa's character. It'd be easier for her to just let Harry die... but then why did she go to Hogsmeade? Why did she tell Christoff to send the rats to St. Louis? Why hasn't she cuts strings?

I'll give you a tiny hint -- she sees a bit of herself in Harry. Don't tell anyone :)
