I've started watching Bones. So far, I'm totally in love with the show and have no desire to fic it. This must be what a normal person feels like.

Pointless post? Yes it is. Go play Sudoku.

I've only felt the urge to fic it once, and it was far too obvious which crossover I'd use. Human-again!Angel mistakenly identified as Seeley Booth... I've read that already, and felt that I did not need to write it.

I was right there with you for WEEKS, and then my (evil, evil) roommate [livejournal.com profile] calantha42 suggested that "Bones and Shirley Holmes, they have a lot in common, don't they...?" And I railed and refused and blamed her for putting unhelpful thoughts in my head... and now I have 600 words. CURSES.

Wow, Shirley Holmes! I haven't thought about that show in eons. Canadian TV has such a small fanbase (like, the ten of us). I love that idea for a fic :D

Apparently it went all over the world, so in fact every tenth girl in an English-speaking country goes "hey, I remember that show!" and it's not on DVD anywhere, and getting people to admit they have recordings is like pulling teeth. YTV went all ninja though, and is airing it again. We just discovered this last night. :)

I like Booth in this show a lot better than in Angel. He gets to play that sense of humour and be not-angsty. Excellent!

I find that I want fic when a universe premise is well done, but the scripts/books are poor or inconsistent.

Like Highlander or Anita Blake. *g*

Bones has a good premise and well done scripts. The characters change and grow, but not in ways that negate their pasts as shown on the show.

I know people love to try and mix shows where the actor is in both, but I don't like any of the 'Booth is/was/could be Angel' stories I've seen.

But I am a sucker for a good crossover, so I can heartily recommend "The Hot Ones Are Always Crazy" by [livejournal.com profile] lisaroquin. It's part of her "Immie Xander" series in which Xander from Buffy winds up an HL Immortal with Methos as his teacher. It's mostly done with drabbles, but this is a longer tale, with a HL style immortal Jack Sparrow getting tangled up the Jeffersonian Crew. When Xander shows up on the scene he takes one look at Booth and quips "Holy shit. Deadboy spawned back in the day."

The author has a website with most of her past fic on it at http://lisaroquin.popullus.net/, but the complete story can be found on her lj account. Look for the tag 'immie xan: random jack sparrow adventures'.

I love Bones! It really grew on me from a show I watched to see DB, to a show I love all by itself.

HL style immortal Jack Sparrow getting tangled up the Jeffersonian Crew!!

Oh, my goodness! I may have to check that out. Having a Highlander Immie Jack Sparrow in my fic as well, I'm a sucker for such things [g]

I also feel strange when I have no urge to read fanfic on a series, generally though it's when the series is young enough not to have a ton of plotholes, or is like Law & Order where the continuing story line isn't a feature, the crime is.

Yeah, I like Bones a lot too. My wife didn't even recognize him from Angel at first, probably because he wasn't all angsty and brooding. I've been impressed with Boreanaz on this show, he's shown a lot more skill as an actor than I've have expected based on Buffy.

As for crossovers, I've toyed with the idea, but one of my favorite fandoms is Dead Like Me, and you can cross that with anything....

I think Buffy was his first major role (and am too lazy to IMDB it). I've read that he almost didn't take Bones because of a difficult meeting with the producers - I'm glad he managed to work through those differences because he's great.

Oh, excellent. Good shows deserve to be re-run (and it helps that it's basically a free show too)

I find I have little interest in ficcing mystery and crime shows, but that's what my original writing tends to be. Since the mystery is revealed in those shows, I don't need to continue on, ya know?

I also fic in fandoms where there is copious question marks, mostly stuff that's sci-fi or fantasy. Crime shows, which are grounded in reality, end with answers and so I have no need to fill in blanks.

I'll go check out that crossover. I'm a sucker for Lisa's stuff :) Thanks!

i can see how ficcing crime shows would be tough. imagine the plot you'd have to come up with. i'm far too lazy.

my biggest surprise for me was that i can't fic the Smoke series. I'd love to. I'd love to read them, but there is very little, and I can't think of a plot for the life of me. hmmm... maybe i should throw tony into an inevitable st. louis...

I agree with this completely. I didn't watch the first season of Bones because I didn't really like DB in Angel, but during s2 and friend lent me her s1 dvds and I got hooked. It's such a great show.

I haven't felt the urge to do Bones until last week's episode...

...And that'll probably be a one-off.

I can't really fic the Smoke or the Blood series; the stories feel complete on their own. Ya know?

Well... almost always... I agree though with ficcing Bones... For me I don't even try to find any because I don't want to see how badly a fangirl/boy has messed up Bones style of dialog. She uses large words and in a certain context that is very unique.. so much so that I don't think that many people will be able to replicate this.
Actually Lisa Roquin from above also wrote a very good Supernatural/Bones fic. Set during first season of Bones.

Heh, I love Bones. I love the hologram. I want one of those. *pouts* Why can't RL be more like tv shows??

But that sort of thing inside (there's no way that lab is real. Shame really.) I love being able to point at something and say, more like that, not so much CSI.

And DB does very nicely with the smiling and so forth!

Sudoku? YOU EVIL PERSON... *clicks*

I picked up the S1 DVDs cheap a couple of weeks ago and have been working my way through the series. So far I've only had one fanfic idea, and it's definitely one for someone else to write - in the aftermath of The Graft in the Girl the head of the FBI still has a dying daughter, and needs to call in some favours to help her. I'm thinking Stargate universe with the NID finding her a symbiote...

Oh yeah, just you wait.

Nah, I'm kidding, it may never happen. But I have had that feeling, where I sort of turn to the fic-crazy bit of my brain, all "Well?" and it's like "Wha? I was sleeping. We watched a new show? It was good? Meh, go 'way." And sometimes, it eventually wakes up.

Ooh -- free sudoku. Passed it onto KB and will intro to Max later today. He loves Sudoku, but the "How am I doing?" button will be greatly appreciated.
