Three dollars and some change

*Ouch*

Ooh the angst! Poor Tony can't seem to stop himself from screwing things up. I think that his extreme unhappiness comes across well, and his deep depression would definately leave him with nothing to say to Ziva.

He's lost his family with his transfer, in some ways much more than the others. Prior to NCIS, he'd never stayed anywhere long, but he'd been on Gibbs's team for well over five years. And like Gibbs, his life really revolved around his team. Losing that has to have had a profound effect upon him, deeply hurting him.

And in typical Tony fashion, he falls into old patterns and sleeps with Ziva. It's almost muscle memory to him I imagine, falling into bed with a woman to forget his troubles. Tony sleeping with Ziva is almost like him desperately wanting something good to ease the sadness in his soul, but of course he just ends up crashing and burning.

I hope that they manage to reconcile, for both their sakes.

I love the way John and in his own way, Rodney, have taken Ziva in as part of their team family now too. The wonderful banter of the phone call and the fact they changed her cell ring tone while she wasn't looking (quite the feat considering she's a Mossad agent).

The whole protective John segment is really lovely too. How he's there with her to help drown her sorrows without trying to give her advice, just share the pain in an unobtrusive way. I think the toast "to making things worse" is great. It highlights their falability, their human-ness, for all that they're out there saving the galaxy and being quiet heroes.

I do wonder what sorrows John was drinking to though? Tony and John are very like each other in some ways.
