Nothing profound, just some character study. Anyway, enjoy. I'm not sure if there will be any other fic this weekend, as I'm very busy. We'll see!

"It's to give thanks," I explained to Damian. "Everyone gets together for the day and is… thankful."

Damian stared at me. "If everyone is thankful, then why are you so stressed out?"

I shrugged. "It's the pard's first Thanksgiving together. I just want everything to be nice."

Damian turned to the messy kitchen, where Nathaniel had been cooking all afternoon. "There is too much preparation."

I slapped my dishcloth to the counter. "How did you give thanks?" I demanded.

"We sacrificed an animal and burned it, as befitted the gods," Damian said matter-of-factly.

"Get back to us on the burned animal tomorrow after the turkey's done," Nathaniel said. "The oven's not working right."

I closed my eyes. Just freaking perfect.

I stood, watching a perfect sunset. Micah was doing coalition overnight duty, and Nathaniel planned to stay over at the Circus after work.

I had to the house to myself all night. No work, no one around. I was free for a glorious twelve hours.

An hour later, I was driving to Guilty Pleasures. Jean-Claude seemed surprised when I slunk into his office and curled up beside him on the couch.

"I thought you looked forward to your free evening."

"I got lonely," I said gruffly.

Jean-Claude laughed softly, kissing my hair. "Then we are here for you, ma petite."

"Another year," I muttered, staring at the grave. The zombie had been laid to rest, and Larry and I were the only moving things in the cemetery.

Larry jumped up and down in place, blowing on his hands. "Can we get to a less cold place for introspection?" he pleaded.

I shot him a look. "Stop whining," I said as I slipped my machete back into my bag. "Don't you know that animators are less susceptible to cold?"

"I must have missed the memo." Seeing me gather up my things, he hurried to follow suit. "Any plans for New Year's Eve?"

"God, no," I said. "All those parties ever turn out to be is alcoholic disasters."

"Oh." We crunched over the snow for a while. "Then I suppose you wouldn't want to come over to my place? Tammy's stuck at home with a newborn and I thought that she might like to see some of her friends."

I stopped dead. "You know I'd bring Micah if I came, right?"

It was Larry's turn to give me a look. "I know that, Anita. So does Tammy."

He waited while I thought about this for a moment. Some people freaked out when you put a lycanthrope, no matter how controlled, around a newborn baby. But Micah was one of the most controlled lycanthropes I'd ever met. He'd be fine around the baby. He'd probably be happy that Larry had asked, too.

"Yeah, we'll come," I finally said. Larry grinned like a fool.

"Great!" We were almost to the car when he said, "Can you bring some veggies and dip?"

"Do I look like a veggies and dip girl?"

"Chips and salsa?"

"You're pushing your luck, Kirkland."

All very adorable - of course, I particularly like the first one, as it has Damian. :)

Of course. He's the one character I have a hard time writing these days... not sure how his relationship with Anita is changing him. Anyway, I ramble

You're welcome. I didn't think of this at the time, but that first one is the whole second triumverate. Fancy that. I should write more of those guys.

*cackle* You are one of the reasons I keep on eyeing Micah, and go '... this would be fun to read!'

In other news...

"We sacrificed an animal and burned its, as befitted the gods," Damian said matter-of-factly.

burned its...?

Just seems like a word is missing.

Er, not a missing word, but an extra S. *is a bad proofreader*

Was it the bits in the last one that makes you interested in reading Micah? I know I'm fascinated in the concept behind the book, as I think we might finally learn what Mr. Callahan is hiding. *ominous music*

I can just see what we learn. *Enter flashback like scene*

Micah was in cahoots with Chimera and is now going to subjugate the entire freaking word.

This is the only possible thing. After he's so damn perfect it practically a requirement that he has some realy nasty big bad horrid icky make you go squicky secret. (Hey I rhymed, Yay me!).

I mean come on who the hell is that damn perfect AND a good lay?

Anyway it's probably nothing just that he has two wives and 15 kids. ;D

Much Glompage,

With 15 kids by age 28, is there any doubt as to why he got himself fixed?

Seriously, I'm most facinated to learn more. I read a bit of "Micah" somewhere and we learn about how he was infected! I can't wait.

The bits in the last one, /and/ in general. I can read almost anything if it'll give me a bit more characterization, but yours have so much, well... this'll be interesting when the book comes out. ;)

I saw something that reminded me of you. Go to Yahoo's (http://www.yahoo.com/) homepage ASAP and scroll down to the Gap advert on the main page. Their catchphrase is "Mind the Gap." ROFL!

Three visions of loveliness!

From: [identity profile] catherinecookmn.livejournal.com
#1 is lovely just for the chance to see more Damian, #2 is lovely to see Anita being relaxed enough aroung Jean-Claude to let him comfort her, and #3 is lovely because Larry is letting Anita know that he and Tammy are comfy with her and Micah.

As for Damian: I think that he and Nathaniel are alike in many ways. Both have had their personas somewhat damaged/warped by the people who had made them other than normal humans, and both are starting to discover their true selves (or at least to create selves more pleasing than the ones they've had) now that they're with Anita.

With the Inevitable universe, there's also the Harry Factor. He's affected Nathaniel to a degree -- Nathaniel now has a male friend his own age, who's not trying to use him in any way, and that's something that Nathaniel's slowly digesting -- but he's got to be affecting Damian that much more. I wonder if Damian spends a lot of time poring over Harry's scrapbook, pondering what it means to be a grandfather (and a vampire grandfather, at that)? Will he be looking to Jean-Claude or Anita (or even popular culture) for cues? Or will he try, with Harry, to create his own take on their relationship?

Why, thank you.

I have been wondering exactly how Damian is reacting to Harry. I will say, withouth giving away anything for the next chapter, that there will be further Harry and Damian interaction, in which Harry starts to realize that his grandfather is really not having an easy time with the whole thing, either.

I suspect that I'll have to do a short piece from Damian's POV once Harry is away. The piece won't fit into the story, per say, so it will have to be one of those excerpts. *sigh* I'm really going to have to get cracking on creating that website of mine for my fics. There's really no other way to lay these things out the way I'd like them to be.

Speaking of Inevitable, I've had just about enough of St. Louis. I think it'll be the full moon in a couple of chapters and we'll get this much-anticipated waiting over with. This means, of course, that I'll need to figure out what sorts of unanswered questions I've got, and which ones I'm going to answer now :)

These are nice and fuzzy... just the way I like them! Is it just me, or is Anita becoming more and more domestic? It's fun to watch, anyway. :~) The first one reminded me of Buffy - I don't think you should ever put her and Anita in the same kitchen on Thanksgiving! And the second one was just cute. The third was satisfying, in a way. It's nice to see Anitas lifestyle being accepted by others.

Just a little nitpick: If Damien is a Viking then they wouldn't have burned their sacrifices, just emptied them of blood and perhaps eaten them. (As far as I remember, anyway - I did one minute of checking as well.) It doesn't really matter - and it totally ruins the punchline - but I thought maybe you'd like to know.

These are all wonderful, and I have a hard time picking a favorite. But I think I'm going to have to go with the Damian one--if for no other reason than you used one of my favorite Simpsons quotes as the title. Poor Raphie.
