Title: Quiet
Characters: Selene, Michael from Underworld
Disclaimer: All Underworld characters belong to Lakeshore Entertainment and all those happy people. I am only borrowing them for a short while and am receiving nothing.
Author's Note:
cissasghost wanted Michael/Selene from Underworld, doing something mundane. It sort of fits the bill. Takes place after Underworld: Evolution, and has some spoilers for that. Okay, mega spoilers. (Ficlette Fiasco III master list found here)

"So what are we going to do?"
Michael's voice fell into the silence of the room. He knew that behind him, Selene was doing something with her guns, but he couldn't hear her over the sound of the outside traffic. Outside traffic; it's four in the morning and we're blocks from the nearest car. Being able to hear like this was going to take some getting used to.
"About what?" Selene finally murmured.
"I don't know, all of it." Michael turned around and leaned against the motel wall, crossing his arms over his chest. "Food? Money? Hell, are we even staying here?"
He just kept running his mouth off, in the hopes she'd say something. He wasn't used to a woman who was so quiet. Since Corvinus's men had pulled them off the little island prison, she'd said about thirty words. He'd been the one who got them this motel room, got them upstairs and behind closed doors. All she'd wanted to do was hold her guns like some sort of deadly security blanket.
She hadn't even told him how she had stood in the sun and not burst into flames.
"We'll go past some safe houses and collect the blood, before the sun comes up." Selene slowly dismantled her gun, in such a way that made Michael wonder if she even knew what she was doing. "I can restock up on ammunition at the same time."
"And then?"
She laid the gun pieces down on the bedspread. "There is no 'and then'."
Michael swore in broken Hungarian. "What about money? I'm still paying back my loans from medical school, and I can't go back to work! Not after what happened! The police are probably still looking for us!"
"So we leave the country."
"What, by stealing another car?"
Selene rose off the bed in a motion so fluid it startled Michael. She seemed more graceful now, more human. Or maybe my brain broke while I was dead.
He closed his eyes. He'd always wondered what it was like to die. Was there the big white light? Singing angels? Then he'd died, for real, and everything had just...
Stopped.
Warm hands settled on his face. He opened his eyes to find Selene so very close. Those ancient eyes in that young face startled him, just like the first time he'd seen her in the subway station. "We are going to be fine," she said awkwardly, as if reassuring someone wasn't in her nature.
"We haven't got any money."
She gave him an odd look. "Do you remember the mansion?"
"What about it?"
Selene stepped back lightly and went over to the desk. "Do you know anything about the structure of a vampire coven?"
"A what?"
"It's not just how we lived, it's how we organized everything." She turned off the light on the desk, leaving only the dim light from the dingy bathroom to shine into the room. "In spite of how things looked, all of our funds were pooled collectively. If anything were to happen to the coven, the remaining members can take the money and seek safe haven elsewhere."
Michael frowned, trying to understand. "But Marcus killed everyone in the... coven, except you."
Selene sat back on the bed to reassemble the gun.
"So that means we've got enough money to go anywhere." Michael frowned. "Really?"
"Really."
"So where are we going to go?"
Selene's fingers stilled on the metal of the unloaded weapon. "I don't know," she finally said. "I've never... I've been here for a very long time."
Michael leaned back against the wall and watched as she slowly and silently reloaded her gun.

Date: 2006-03-15 01:40 am (UTC)one year closer to deathbirthday party in about an hour. And I can't get the Slughorn scene right. I mean, just how diplomatic is Harry, anyway? We know he can be a brat, but is he smooth?Answer: No.
But it's a good a chance as any to set Hermione on edge. But I digress.

Date: 2006-03-15 04:11 am (UTC)Oh, so very true.
I'd love to read your take on that crossover. I'm close to ready to post my prequel thingie .. okay, by "close" I mean "halfway done and I work a 10-hour day tomorrow and then Lost and Invasion are on", so, probably this weekend. Sci-fi Friday's in reruns now. And I am queen of the tangent, but anyway, yeah, UW/AB crossovers, yay!
I am such a dork.

Date: 2006-03-15 04:06 am (UTC).. ahem. *attempts dignity*
Very nice character voice, very realistic concerns for Michael to have, and Selene's dissociative, mechanical behavior is completely in-character. Thank you!

Date: 2006-03-15 06:09 am (UTC)Oh, I love writing fic. It's like my drug. No, actually, that's beer, but this is a close and much more productive second.
So, um, got any Underworld fic sites I can post this on? Aka I lost the url of your site.

Date: 2006-03-15 06:16 am (UTC)Some friends of the best friend person's brought this REALLY good beer to her New Year's Eve party, from a local brewery, and after sampling everything there of an even vaguely similar color, I've determined that it must have been something seasonal that they're not making right now. I am vastly depressed about this. That was damned good beer. It should be available year-round.
. . I am completely incapable of staying on-topic tonight. Oh well.
Yes, you must get the extended cut. There's like, five more minutes of film, total, but they're five necessary minutes and I don't really know why they cut them in the first place 'cause see above re: only five minutes. They make Michael make more sense. They make Michael/Selene make MUCH more sense. And they illustrate the utter fucked-up-ness that is Erika/Kraven, too.
. . and U:E needs to come out on DVD, like, RIGHT NOW! (I can't even find a site saying when it's due out. This is upsetting me.)
-Sonya (being very manic, OMG someone hit me over the head 'cause I must go to sleep now, I have work in the morning!)

Date: 2006-03-15 06:20 am (UTC)It was probably a Christmas Ale. They tend to do that, the phuckers.
*gets the bat*
I can't find a release date either. *is sad* I'm sure it'll be out in a few months.
Srsly, go to bed!
