Inevitable 5 update, Masks talk (no update there)

Inevitable Five: Blood is Thicker than Water is posted. It's the chapter I'm most worried about, from an audience-acceptance standpoint. It's a bit of a cliche, but only a tiny one.

The next parts won't come as fast; as they're in the process of being written.

I think I finally have a way to solve my problem with Masks. It was planned as being set in between seasons two and three of Buffy. As we know, Buffy ends up in LA at the beginning of season three. So, in order to get that, I need to get her out of San Fran and also ignorant of the Kindred type of vampires. The solution to this I've come up with may piss some people off, but my story, my plan all along. And it's all angsty for Frank, which is good.

Maybe I'll do a post-Chosen ficlette in this world when Buffy swings through San Fran and sees Frank. That might be interesting. I was toying with making that the epilogue in Masks, but thought it best to end in the right timeframe.

Just got through the last two updates of Inevitable last night, but haven't had time to review as it was late and I was exhausted. Then I had dreams about it all night long. You know you've done a great job with a story when your readers dream about them.

Anyway, before I review, probably when I get home tomorrow, I do have a question. One of the other reviewers mentioned the possiblity of a Nathaniel/Harry relationship and you didn't answer the question. As someone who doens't generally enjoy slash, I'm not sure how I feel about that possibility without forewarning. Would I continue to read? Probably. I dunno. I am wary of slash with no warning. You have your plans, I respect that, and as a reader I'm overjoyed to have a crossover so well written and thought out it keeps my mind running when I'm not in front of the computer.

I dunno. I think I'm asking for spoilers here. If you don't want to share, I'm good. If you do, I'm good. Just one reader's opinion, of course. Just nattering at you to assess my own feelings on the subject, I guess.

the possiblity of a Nathaniel/Harry relationship ...

I don't mind telling. This story will not be slash. I am trying to develop an eventual friendship while at the same time using Harry as a bit of a complication in Anita and Nathaniel's relationship. That may sound weird, since there's not going to be a H/N relationship, but in a couple of chapters we'll be learning what's happened since the end of ID and the impact of that on the A/N relationship.

Also, I'll be playing a bit with Harry's innocence (in terms of sex and sexuality) and the utter opposite of that which is Nathaniel. Most of what Anita and Nathaniel will see, Harry will be oblivious to. As it should be.

To sum up: No slash. And no breaking up Anita and Nathaniel.

Oh, thank heaven. I'm not against slashing unexpected couples, per se, but I've seen it done so strangely before that I'm wary when the players haven't already expressed same-sex attraction before.

Besides, I love Anita and Nathaniel together, post ID. I don't know why, but the dynamic between her, N and Micah really appeals to me, as well as the one between A/N/Damien. That's fascinating. And I was not at all displeased with that relationship reveal! I loved that Damien was connected to Harry- not too cliched at all. Just the right twinge of suprise and familiarity.

It's just that Harry's big green eyes are harped upon in the books and by all fic writers from here to Timbuktu, while the same thing happens with Damien. It was just too easy to connect the dots.

Plus? Lily's red hair? Another nail in the coffin, as it were.

You read my mind. I trust good authors, like yourself and a few others, but I've been shocked and burned entirely too many times. Slash, or any other subject, should be left to peopel who know what they're doing- no that's not true. People should write them. I just shouldn't have to stumble across them. [shudder]

I'm fond of stories that make a note of such relationships (heck, of all relationships) at the beginning in the disclaimer. If the story's going to have a Buffy/Giles relationship, for example, I can kind of tell that I'm not going to be interested.

Although I'm reading the Harry/Richard story just because Anita seems to be true to form so far, even if the writer casts her as the biggest bitch in the world. Plus, it's got that car crash feel. Can't look away...
