I swear to *god*, I have never been so close to abandoning Inevitable as I am right now. Think I can go back a few chapters and have Olaf and Nathaniel having a nice tea party instead? At this point, it would be less painful to spork my eyes out. This chapter is never going to fucking end.

[/rant]

yeah, yeah, back at it. No fic abandonage today.

So, um, today's link/rec/point: Today's Harry Potter news:

The Vatican's whipped out its head exorcist to say Harry Potter is evil. As anyone who's read [livejournal.com profile] mctabby's summary executions knows, he's right.

A blogger is comparing those recently unveiled claim that Judas was helping Jesus, as published in the Gospels of Judas, with the actions of Snape in HBP.

ETA: Sheesh, I'm whining again, aren't I? Somebody slap me. Really, I do enjoy writing. I do, I do, I do believe in fairies.

Hope the story and characters will stop having fights with you. I don't think I've ever seen someone write so long chapters in such short time. I don't know how you manage, I'm stunned speechless.

On the hype over the Potter books. I figure that the ones making all the fuss has never actually read them. I remember reading a couple of years back about someone, catholic i think *gasp*, thinking that it was horrible that children believed in what was written in the books (because they're evil, err).

One of the proofs that the children were sure that Hogwarts existed, was that they wrote letters to the headmaster, to get accepted. Truly horrible.

What frightens me is the view he must have of children. He must think that they're complete idiots for starters. It also got me wondering what he thinks of children writing letters to Santa.

Coffee. Lots and lots of coffee. And no life.

Well, consdiering that you can rearrange the letters in "Santa" to spell "Satan," I think that one's pretty obvious.

Ya gotta realize: The current Pope in none other than Joseph Ratiznger, who is the leader of the arch-conservative "Vatican II was a mistake" faction. They think that they can force the North American Catholics to submissively fall into line on birth control and a bunch of other issues. (Strangely enough, while JPII at least was staunchly anti-death-penalty and against the invasion of Iraq (in other words, he was a consistent pro-lifer), one doesn't hear Emperor Popeatine say Word One about either of those dead moose stinking up the rugs.)

The problem is that a) North America subsidizes the rest of the church and alienating the NAs means tearing up the church's checkbook, and b) Protestant Evangelicals have been making serious inroads into the church's Latin American strongholds. (Seems that the Catholic church hierarchy is known for being too cozy with the corrupt dictators who are being pitched out of office one by one; the people wind up being easily recruited by the Evangelicals, who have an advantage in that they can marry and thus press their spouses into service.)

So in the end, with Europe a lost cause (even Italy and Spain have liberalized their abortion and homosexuality laws to a degree), their last hope is in Africa and Asia -- and the Evans are outhustling them there, too.

you are lucky you are not italian...
i dont' know if you ever fell the news during this last electoral campaign: if you want homosexuals have the right to have family recognize by state, if you thinks the women have the right to decide of their body, if you read books they dont like you cant define yourself a Christian, And moreover if you vote for someone who wants defend these things you are not a christian too..
italy is becoming a new teocrazia...
Ratiznger, and his right arm cardinal ruini, has define laycism a dishonor ...
And last but not least have you hear of his idea to block pedofilia in the church ( you remember the sex abuse of boston?) ?
He want throw outside seminary all the students who have homosexual tendency... because, in his opinion, only homosexual can be pedofilo...
You are lucky....
i have to live here, where all politics dont say a word against the church...

Take heart, Ver. Ratzinger's an old man and won't last more than a few years. After all, Berlusconi's on his way out, so things are looking up for you!

thanks..
But the problem is not only Ratzinger: all of the curia is like that;
there are no more people, in the hight church who wants understand the modern world;
And with the 11th september they are using people's fear to make them obey... they said: " the only way to fight a idea is another idea, so if you want fight a religion you have to came back to the church."
If Ratzinger died i fear another like him will be Pope..
And you know what is the really sad things?
A lot a people here thinks that the Church is right.
Sorry if i'm a little bitter but in Italy we have obey the church for centuries and when we hope it was over all it start again.
I'm tired: it's like we have to combat with Idra.
And if you tell someone what do you think the look at you with pity or as you are a child who doen't know meant of your words...
I think we was more free without Christianity, when we was pagani.
