I was thinking about all the fandoms I know, and thought I'd ask you guys what you know (poll behind the cut). Plus, polls are fun.

Things are okay over on my end. Not sure what I'll write on next... but then, it's always a surprise :)

[Poll #713735]

Have a fun day, everyone!

Writing does take some dedication... and slogging, and practice. I find that the more I do it, the easier it is to fall back into.

Fandom Readings

I tend to read fic that focuses on the main characters of whatever fandom it's based in.

BTW... love you're fic!

I hear ya. I tend to write the same way -- Anita Blake, or Harry, or Buffy. I mean, I'll go outside those, but they're my favourites.

Tea is more soothing for the soul, but the coffee will keep you awake better. -.- Top o' the mornin' to ye. When brewing teas, steep gently. However, infusions should steep for at least four minutes. This is the brief summary of my readings for today. Mhalachai! Please, save us from inanity!

I'm all about the tea. There are several high-end tea shops here in Vancouver, and I love them with an obsessive vigour. My last fave tea was an earl grey jasmine black, which sounds really odd but it was SO good, light and flavourful.

Of course, then there is coffee. I make pseudo french press coffee, so it's like a meal unto itself.

If you're asking *me* to save you from inannity, then it's a lost cause :P

You're supposed inanity must cancel mine, 'cause there's nothing more fun and interesting than reading your stories which is what I was trying to ask for...when you have the time and inclination, of course.

Which of the following of my fandoms do you know?

Yes. And, what, no Doctor Who? X-Files?

Apparently I'm a fandom slut.

I've never seen Dr. Who, and even though XFiles was filmed in Vancouver, I never got into it. Oh well.

You've been deprived. Doctor Who is my new indulgence, and you should definitely hijack some Seattle TV and watch it on SciFi. It's frakking amazing.

I, um, don't have cable and have low-speed internet. And yes, it's very nice living in the 1990s :P

I'll see if I can find any Dr. Who fans to hook me up.

At risk of making a "me too!" post, I'll second dvak's endorsement for Doctor Who. The new series really is quite fun. Even my doesn't-like-scifi wife is enjoying it.

Also, IIRC, the first season has already been released on DVD in Canada.

As for X Files, it was a moment in time thing for me - I stopped watching after the first few seasons but lurked in the fandom for years. Plus? Good crossover fodder. <3 the crossover.

Hmm, what else... Poltergeist the Legacy? Friday the 13th the Series? War of the Worlds? American Gothic?

*wanders off to bed with happy thoughts of quirky TV shows long gone*

For some reason, I just couldn't get into XFiles. I was going to university at the time and communting a long distance, so maybe that was it.

I totally forgot about American Gothic. I seem to have a thing for TV shows that get cancelled after one season. Never saw the other ones, however :)

My throat is absolutely crawling with germs, so tea sounds more soothing. I think I'm catching pink eye too. Let's face it, I'm falling apart.

I'm not actually that involved in fandoms much. I started with one TV show and then through fanfic, fell into HP. The idea of fandom is a relatively new concept to me.

P.S. I saw Serenity recently, and I enjoyed it quite a bit. Thanks for raving about it. :D

There's a woeful lack of Harry Potter/Firefly crossovers.

I have a lust for vampire shows. Especially vampire shows set in San Francisco. Most importantly, vampire shows with Stacy Haiduk.

And Wolf Lake was amazing awesome too because DUDE, filmed in Vancouver plus werewolves plus Graham Greene? My kind of show.

I didn't answer the "where do your fandoms come from" question, 'cause I'm really a fairly mixed bag. Give a choice of media purely on the basis of how it's consumed, I think I like books best - they're highly portable, it's very easy to go back to the parts you like, and they make no noise, meaning you can enjoy them in privacy even if you're in a crowd. They really win.

However, fandom-wise . . I do like TV and movies, mostly TV, because of the availability of visual media, for things like manips and vids. I do like my manips and vids. And you can make manips for books, do your own casting, yes, and that's fun, but it's often sorta limited unless your chosen actor/model/whomever has played a role very similar to the one in which you've just cast him/her. It's even more limited if you can't find a single person to fit the part and end up blending faces or bodies (though I'll admit, that's very, very fun, especially when it turns out such that you literally have a photograph of what was in your head, which exists nowhere in the world. Gotta love that. But it's hard, and harder to repeat.)

Personally, I like coffee, but too much is bad on the tummy. So, my new thing is Chai tea, the latte version, with hot milk. And now, I so want some. *sigh* guess I'll hit Starbucks in the morning.

Have a good one!

Mary Russell (Sherlock Holmes books)
Does knowing the source material count? ;)

Also, I know enough Sentinel and Forever Knight canon from fanfic and fan sites to get by comfortably (as in, I could probably write some fanfic), despite never having seen the actual shows. Same goes for Quantum Leap, among others.

The only fandoms you've listed that I know *absolutely* nothing about are Earth 2 and Wolk Lake. As long as I know one fandom in a crossover, I'm willing to try it. Thus did I fall into Firefly :D.

I generally read fic with an interesting premise, usually (but not always) starring my favourite characters from the canon/s.

And looking back at my current fandoms, I think I lied: they're mostly books. Or maybe I lie again, and they really are mostly TV. Why do you ask such tricksy questions?!?
