Re: Yay!
Date: 2006-04-26 10:35 pm (UTC)in retrospect, I understand that what happened to him would probably change him, and the way he explained things made me understand the change, so really, when I think about it, this wasn't really a criticism!
It was outside of what Anita was expecting, too, and so she was having a hard time understanding it which made it into print. In some ways, Nathaniel is my favourite AB character. He's got this persona he puts on for Anita, and another for work, and probably another for the pard. Nathaniel wants to be what people want from him, it's safer than just being himself and getting slapped down. Anita's trying to tell him that she wants him to be himself, but the way I see it, it's been so long since he's been able to be that person, he's forgotten how to stop the act.
She is, after all, sixteen in this story and everyone matures and she is simply maturing
Luna's had a very different life from Ron. Of all the characters, she's a bit like Harry. MOther dead in front of her eyes (okay, at 9), being teased all the time for being different (Harry in Surrey, then whenever he's being alienated). She approcahes life with this odd Zen. She's what I call an old soul.
Ron was also very nice in this chapter, though him and Hermione conspiring against Harry at the beginning kind of ticked me off.
Ron loses about 40 IQ points when he thinks a family member may be threatened. All the Weasleys are like this (Fred and/or George tackling Malfor for making cracks about their mother during the Quiddith game in book 5). That was my take on his reaction here. Harry's his friend, but Ginny's his sister!
Also, Hermione was trying to talk him down. She has to be sick of Ron and Harry fighting by this point.
