[livejournal.com profile] fanfic100 Prompt: 57 -- Lunch

I staggered into my kitchen at about one o'clock in the afternoon, yawning, and was only partly surprised to see my half of the pard eating all the food in the house.

"Hi Anita!" Zane said cheerfully, biting into a sandwich that was almost as tall as me. "Sleep well?"

I grunted something and made a beeline to the coffee maker. I upended the pot over my mug, but only a few pitiful drops fell from the pot.

Grumbling, I set the pot down and went to the cupboard where we kept the coffee. The coffee jar was in the right place, but when I picked it up, it seemed too light.

God, no. I pried open the jar's lid and peered inside. The jar was empty, save for less than a teaspoon of coffee grounds littering the bottom.

I slapped the jar on the counter and whirled around to glare at my pard, who had all gone silent. "Who drank all the coffee?" I demanded.

Nathaniel hunched over, trying to make himself as small as possible. "I told Gregory not to, but--"

"Shut up!" Gregory exclaimed. "You're the one who had three cups!"

"Only because Cherry drank all the Coke!"

"It’s not my fault there wasn't enough iced tea for me and Vivian!"

"Hey!" I shouted. "Are you telling me there's no caffeine in the house at all?"

Five sets of eyes were suddenly very interested in the floor.

"Fuck," I muttered. What a horrible way to wake up after a really bad night at work. I rubbed my eyes. At least there had to be some food left. Nathaniel had gone shopping the previous day and...

I blinked as I looked in the fridge. It was utterly bare. The only thing that graced its shelves were a half-empty jam jar and some salsa.

Slowly, I turned around. "I thought you went to the store yesterday," I said in a strangled voice.

Nathaniel slid low in his chair. "Gregory wanted to go to a movie instead."

"Stop making this my fault!"

I held up my hand. "There's no coffee. There's no food. Is there anything else we're out of?"

"Not out of, but the hot water heater's broken."

No coffee. No food. No showers. This was quite possibly the worse day ever.

I pushed myself off the counter. "I'm going back to bed."

If that were me, I'd go back to bed as well. I liked this one. It was "nice", "homely", "comfortable"? I'm not sure what word I'm looking for, but whatever the word is, that's what this story was. Make sense? lol

I'm not sure what the word is, but I do get what you're trying to say. It's got a sense of "home" about it, even if "home" has no food or drink. :D

I know. Relaxing. Calm. Stress-free. Sleepy.

Nope, none of these are working. I'll keep thinking about it. *sigh*

Oh, contentment. That's the word. It comes across with a sensation of being content. Happy with what it is.

This is why I'm not a professional writer. *giggle*

This is why I'm not a professional writer.

I've seen too many professional writers with thesaurusitis. I read a book last night where each and every noun had a modifier. It was so very wrong.

Anyway.

Thanks again :)

Well, yelling at the pard (without Micah around) would be like kicking a basket of tiny kittens. It's uncool. So she'll go mope in bed for a while, at least until Micah gets home and Anita can yell at him for a while :D

true true, they'd probly cry and freak her out or someting. I doubt she'd yell at Micah he'd probly just look at her and smile which would get her no where.

PS I LOVE YOUR ICON!!! Both the one of the kitten and the one of Scooter, even though I'm not his biggest fan.

Into very life a bit of lack must fall. It builds character or something.

I've had the lack of coffee in the house, so I know exactly how that character building sucks :D

All I can say is that somebody had better get coffee and chow, stat, or Things Will Be Bad. ;-)

There's nothing better than a bad day to really understand just how much life can suck!

It's days like this that you look back on, and say "thank god that's over"

Also to stockpile the coffee in the house.

"I'm going back to bed."

Such a good call, some days. Too bad annoying trivialities like, oh, continued employment and critters who need feeding, typically prevent me from taking that path.

Very cute ficlet.

"I'm going back to bed."

I've had days where it's like, screw this, I'm not bothering to get up. At least I usually have coffee in the house :)
