The next chapter of Inevitable will be out tomorrow, and I know this because I am halfway through the chapter now and I know exactly what I need to finish before posting. It'll be an odd chapter, with characters moving in odd directions and having the final piece of the puzzle laid in for the story finale. Plus, full moon.

Now, two recs.

Firstly, an X-Men movie fic that came out before X-Men 3 and is quite possibly the creepiest thing I've ever read. It's brilliant and I wish X3 had been like this. It's Jean-centric, told through Scott's eye.

Bring Out Your Dead by Apathy.

~~~
Now, a book rec, actually a series recommendation. The Smoke series by Tanya Huff ([livejournal.com profile] andpuff) is a follow-up to the Blood series, centring on 24-year-old Tony Foster, former street kid and current Production Assistant on a vampire show in Vancouver (mad props to the home town, yo). Tony finds the whole thing rather surreal, especially considering he's friends with 450-year-old vampire Henry Fitzroy.
These books (Smoke and Shadows, Smoke and Mirrors, and Smoke and Ashes) are horror/comedy/drama and are, on all counts, fantastic reads. Smoke and Ashes just came out in June, so you'll only be able to find it in hard cover, but do yourself a favour and pick these books up for a read.
The Smoke books are worth the wait. I love Tony and I love Henry and it's set in my home town and I heart that so bad.
I hope you enjoy the XMen fic :)
I actually didn't get through the last three blood books, more disinterest on my part, but I picked up Smoke and Shadows and fell in love. Tony's suck a lovable dork.
Thanks for the book recs. I have some of the Huff series, unread, of course. Yours is the second rec I've seen for her stuff in the past couple of weeks. And double yay, triple yay, about Inevitable!
I got stuck on the first series (the Blood books) but the stories with Tony (Smoke) are quite a fun read.
And yes, yay to IN. It's been so long since I've written on this... I'm half-afraid that I'll forget what I was doing, or mix up this Harry with the other Harrys I have going on... but the other part of me is all "meh, the story hasn't changed" and the ending will still rock. If/when I ever get there. I figure a realistic end date of before the end of 2006 is in store (I have 10 chapters and about 100,000 words to go.)
Man, that number's terrifying to look at.
i actually picked up a copy of the blood series at a used bookstore for $3. its one i didnt have but i had borrowed from the library. im quite happy to have my own copy.
and ive heard some about the smoke series and i really need to write that down for books to search for once i have a job again. :)
i really want/need to go back and read all the chapters of inevitable but i just got danse macabre from the library today so i need to read that and return it because theres a long list waiting for it.
i think it will take me a few days or more to try to work my way through it.
I have a sneaking suspicion that Tanya Huff is from your neck of the woods (disclaimer: I'm from Vancouver, and everyone east of the Canadian Shield's living in the same neighbourhood), and yes, it's awesome.
I, too, need to reread Inevitable. I came across a situation today where I was all, "Have Harry and Hermione ever discussed her views on Necromancy?"
After much searching (more like word search in editpad) I discovered that yes, they have. Twice.
*sigh* I wish I could recall all this stuff. 468,992 words is a lot to go through :D
PS Yes, DM is rather... dense. Good slogging, and when you're done we'll chat canon.
Heh! I don't envy you at all, my dear! I'm just glad that you've managed to come to terms with DM in such a way that it's not killed off your ability to do fic.
the funny thing is she was actually born in halifax - an hour away from where i live so you are right. but she grew up in ontario as most people from this area tend to move there - that or 'out west'.
so much stuff has happened in inevitable that im not surprised you cannot remember simple stuff that didnt take up a while chapter. [at least i dont think it did]
id love to chat canon. i think i need to re-read the book before dm because they mention a few people during the first couple of chapters and i dont know who they are. oh well. im sure itll just tell me later on anyway. :)
Arghhhh! Why did i check my journal?!?! I am supposed to be finishing my major report for tourism studies (30% of my final grade - not fun at all!) but now i'm going to be distracted all night by the sweet, sweet presage of more inevitable!
At least i will be able to console myself with a nice big slice of full-moon-not-quite-a-werewolf-but-close-enough-Harry...
... but for now back to the grindstone...
Wake me when there's more Inevitable!!!
Thanks for the recs. I was wondering what I was going to read after I finish Fiona McIntosh's The Quickening series. Should I read the blood series first or can I go straight to the Smoke series?
Yay for Inevitable. I'm going to set time to read it tomorrow after I finish my uni work (or on Wednesday which is my day off). Actually, I'll leave for Wednesday, that way it'll be my reward for getting uni done.
just popping in to say i find it hard to find books in the blood series. most of the time you have to order them online [or through a bookstore and avoid shipping fees] but it takes a long while for them to come in. [and i live in the same country as the author]
i still havent gotten all the books in the series so ive been waiting until i get them all to read them.
libraries are great, if they carry them to start off to see if you like them enough to continue on. :)
You don't really have to read the Blood books before the Smoke books. There's a pretty clean break between the two series, and there are essentially two characters that make the trip west to Vancouver.
I'd say I enjoyed the Smoke books more, mostly because there was always something about Vicki (protagonist of the Blood books) that I found kind of unlikeable.
Thanks for the book recs. I haven't read any Tanya Huff but this series looks promising. I'll have to hit up the used book stores today and made a purchase .. or 9. :)
*squeal* I LOVE YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OHHHHHHHHHHHHHH that OHHH Luna's so cool. and Elsa is given me the wiggens with popping up all over the place. Someone needs to hex Snape, repeatedly and offen. Or better yet Harry should get Anita to scare the shit out of him. I just want to ring his neck right now interupting Luna and Harry, and Ron too for that matter interupting Ginny and Harry ^^. You know when Jason hears about this there will be no end to the teasing.
I read the Smoke series before I ever read the Blood series. I personally likeed the Smoke series better. It makes me laugh and the Tony/Henry relationship is so great! I can't wait to read the third one.
PS. Love the icon!
