Your insight into Nathaniel is amazing as always. I suppose it's easy to see first and foremost that he's kinda messed up and needy and such, but you've really highlighted here how, actually, all things considered, he's kinda amazingly functional, too. He didn't just live, he survived - not intact, exactly, but he did survive, there are large and significant pieces of him that aren't just a product of his lack-of-upbringing. Of course, duh, but it's a thing I hadn't thought on before.
