I prefer getting feedback on my LJ account, because then I am more likly to reply to it. I hate writing e-mails, and I will always find a reason not to - or I will do such a crap job at it, it is worse than saying nothing at all. With the LJ comments, I will feel guilty enough to actually reply - because they look so lonely alone, and I like to make sure the people who suport my stuff enough to comment know they are appreciated.
I know what you mean about LJ comments. Most times, I haven't got the time to log back into whatever archive I'm at.... and emails seem too formal. LJ is the proper mix of infomrality and I'm able to reply easier. It's also fun because a conversation can develop, and others can join in.
I like to make sure the people who suport my stuff enough to comment know they are appreciated.
I'm with you on this. I often spend lots of time replying to LJ comments after I post a chapter of something. But it's worth it.
While I answered I prefer LJ comments, I actually will take comments any way I can get them. Yes, I'm needy :) Just getting a comment on a fic is wonderful, and if that's in email or in comments, I'm grateful. Same goes for leaving comments, I'll leave them in whatever format is available.
I think I like the LJ comments thing because I am an utter attention whore and also secretly rather competative, and there's just something all gleefully satisfying about seeing the number of comments, especially if it's a high number. Of course if it's a low number it's depressing and discouraging and frustrating and all, but still, worth it for those occasional runs of double-digits.
I like LJ comments almost exclusively. While any form of feedback is good, if someone puts the effort into writing feedback, (even if it's only, 'this was good!') I think they deserve me acknowledging that by replying, (even if it's only, 'thanks!').
While the fact that you can't track your hit-count on LJ the way you can with archives like Skyehawke (which really display the reader vs. reviewer ratio!), I still encourage people to read my stuff on LJ simply so that I can respond to any comments.
As for email, well, I've never had a review via email before so I can't say. :D I think if people had some constructive criticism I would prefer it to be sent via email so that I could get into the nitty-gritty with them without it being splashed all over LJ. *shrugs*
i like receiving e-mails because people will say things in e-mail that they won't say otherwise because of public scrutiny. I, however, am the Demigoddess of Laziness and will reply on LJ. contradictory, i know, but that is my creed, heh.
Does it make me a bad person if I'm the same way? Numbers are fun, and the conversational aspect of LJ.
True how the number of comments does indicate stuff about the fics. I get all compare-y about my fics and spend too much time wondering why sone fics get more comments than others. It's sad, really.
Hey, it's been a while since we talked. How are you doing?
My foot's busted up and I'm full of woe, not able to do much. It's annoying as hell. I'm trying to write and am distracted by the angst that is my life. Actually, it's not that bad... just interupting my plans.
Plus work is insane, but that's apparently normal.
This has nothing to do with the poll, but it is a something that everyone can share, but it's mostly for Mhalachai, 'cause I found all this stuff last night and thought she might like it as well, yes, but everyone enjoy!
I present to you Mhalachai, a compiled list of hopefully all the music used in Supernatural. Clicky here. (http://tviv.org/Supernatural/Music)
Also, not sure if you use bittorrent, but if you do a link to a site where someone has compiled a 2-disc torrent filled with music from Supernatural. Now, it's not all of the music, but a majority of it from Season One. Enjoy! Clicky here. (http://www.demonoid.com/files/details/495562/2516492/)
In that music compilation is a song by Blind Faith - Can't Find My Way Home that reminded me of Reap What You Sow, so definately check that out. :)
Seriously, this is wonderful! Thanks so much. I'll check out that song... I think I know which it is, and I think I know why it fits RWYS.
*Off to look at the music*
Oh, as an aside, I think the best use of music in the whole series to date was in "Faith", when the Reaper was after the girl in the woods, and they were playing "Don't Fear the Reaper" by Blue Oyster Cult as she was running away. A great shot.
Well, there is the whole issue where we are a couple of provinces away from each other. lol So I don't think marrying is in our future for each other. *winks*
I'm glad you enjoyed the prezzie. :)
Also, Kanses - Carry On Wayward Son for RWYS as well. XD 'Cause in a way, it fits so well with John/Dean/Sam/Edward/Peter dynamic and John is in the body of someone's son now. *giggles*
But definately the "Don't Fear the Reaper" was very well done, I really did like that part. My mom is making a trip down to Grand Forks, recreation here in Winnipeg, when in doubt - shop in Grand Forks! So hopefully a Season 1 of Supernatural is in my future.
And yes, I am listening to my MulletRock Collection from that torrent. Hence my squeeing at finding appropriate songs for RWYS. XD
Also, another prezzie, 'cause I know how much you like John (http://www.jdmorgan.net/).
I read about your foot on your other journal - that sucks. Probably better to get it looked at sooner rather than later, though, so you don't aggrevate the situation if you did break something.
.. but if you don't do that and are hanging around and get bored, I'll probably be on IM most of the evening. Attempting to write and being brain-dead with the exhaustion and all.
Interesting poll. I actually hadn't really thought about it much, but I suppose I enjoy the interactive features of LJ that make it easy to send/receive thanks to their effective email/post features.
That said, I tend to review a story wherever I happen to be reading it. I honestly don't pay attention to where I am when I send a review.
Mostly, I'm just very thankful that amazing writers such as yourself exist.
