Missing Scene: #10 - Feeling empty of all emotion
~*~
Vampires do not dream.
How many nights had Damian spent, staring at the wall, waiting for death to take him with the rising sun? Waiting for his mistress in death to push him over the edge into true death? In over a thousand years, Damian had watched, waited, and fallen to death without a moment of dreams.
Such was the reason that when he saw his dead daughter Lily standing on the other side of the cold stone cavern, under the Circus of the Damned, he knew that it was not a dream.
There was chaos, there was screaming, fear, blood spray everywhere, and Damian was at the heart of it all and yet apart.
"This is always how it ends."
She looked as young as Damian himself, her red hair lighter from the sun. Her emerald eyes were fixed on the scene before them, at the blood and the chaos as Anita and Harry tried desperately to keep Damian's body together. "How does it end?" Damian asked, curious. He felt no pain, no guilt, no remorse.
"With the living refusing to let go." Lily turned those brilliant eyes to him. "What about you?"
A faint brush of emotion distracted Damian. Loss. "I am already dead," he told his daughter. "As are you."
Lily shook her head. "If you are already dead, if they are already dead," she said, indicating the fighting vampires in the room, "Why does my son grieve for you so? Why does he fight so hard against losing you?"
"You didn't fight."
Lily only stared at him. "Everyone has a choice. I made my choice."
"To die."
"Not to die," Lily said. Her gaze wandered back to her son, Damian's grandson. "I chose to let Harry live."
"You did not know he would live. You knew that Voldemort planned to kill him regardless of your sacrifice."
"Indeed." Lily smiled faintly, and Damian saw an echo of Harry in that smile. "But sometimes, those few moments of life are enough. That was my choice."
A sharp stabbing pain slammed through Damian, driving him to his knees. Across the room, his body convulsed, and Anita was screaming.
"What is your choice?" Lily knelt beside Anita, touched Damian's broken body with ghostly fingers. "This?" She held up her hand, blood coating her hand. "Or death?"
Anita's plea, can't leave me, Damian, please, don't you dare die! filtered into his consciousness.
"This, here and now. This is your time to choose."
Damian stared at his dead daughter for a long moment.
He made his choice.
He opened his eyes.
Alive.

Date: 2007-03-03 05:13 am (UTC)wow and wow
two characters that have lots of depth and plenty to explore. Lily and Damion and the odd relationship in your world is too cool!
good luck with the writing, I need to find some of that myself.
Wow
Date: 2007-03-05 06:50 am (UTC)and as has been said, Lily is a relativly enigmatic character. We know she excelled in school, liked charms, was beautiful, and died for Harry. We've seen much more of James. But also, Damian hasn't really been explored. He's a confusing guy, but you're world brings more of him to light. I think I might cry when Inevitable is over.
