Gilmore Girls drabble, "AU" prompt for 100_coffees

The pitter-patter of teenage footsteps pulled Lorelai out of her reading. "Hey!" Lorelai shouted as her offspring came to a halt in the doorway. "Where are you going?"

An eyebrow went up. "To Lane's?" The 'duh' was implicit.

"Is your homework done?"

"Of course!"

"Your chores?"

"What chores?"

"How about my chores?"

"Mooommm!" Shaggy brown hair fell forward over Lorne's blue eyes, outrage radiating off his six-foot frame, a genetic throw-back to Lorelai's father. "Lane's going to kill me if I'm late."

Lorelai smiled. Young love was so cute. "Have fun, apple cheeks!"

Lorne didn't dignify that with a response.

That was a really cute idea :)

I love that his name is Lorne and that he ended up with Lane. I'm sure that would have been adorable. Now I have a whole alternate universe being spun around in my head where he's also friends with Jess and Dave and all the stuff he likes and does lol.

Thanks :) It was the first thing that occurred to me when I saw the prompt. It doesn't get more AU than this.

I'm currently wondering how the baby being a boy would have affected Lorelai's relationship with her parents. So many ways this could go ;)

I figured that since he's known Lane since he was six, he seems less of a threat. But then, they're still doing homework at the kitchen table with Mrs. Kim looking on disapprovingly :)

Funny you should say that. I have this idea in my head for a continuation of the AU, namely three parts -- when Lorne is accepted into Chilton and has to leave Lane and the school; when he meets his paternal grandparents for the first time (and his relationship with Christopher), and his developing relationship with his maternal grandparents. Part of what drove the relationship between Rory and the grandparents was her replacement value for Lorelai. That sounds harsh, but it did have a very big impact. A boy would be very different, to Emily and most certainly to Richard.

And of course, I envisioned Lorne as latching onto Luke as his male role model and Luke rising admirably to the challenge. This would of course push the Luke/Lorelai relationship along quite fast :)

It occurs to me that I think too much :)

I love that you think too much. The bits with Richard and Luke sound most interesting. Especially about Richard, ever since the golf club scene in S1, he's been surrounded by... well, Gilmore Girls.

I hope you get to write that AU, because this drabble-glimpse was certainly enough to wet my curiosity!
