They are convinced that it is *them* who must save the world, taking all the crap onto themselves and forgetting that they are very young, and very vulnerable. I've often wondered, with Anita, if the reason she is so ready to fling herself into dangerous situations is that she cannot believe in a world where she is valued and loved, just for herself.
An interesting point of divergence from canon characterization - your Harry seems much readier to sacrifice himself
Canon Harry doesn't have the wolf in him. There's quite a sea change in IN!Harry; he's more anamalistic, more "in the moment", and more protective of those around him. This last one I blame entirely upon Anita's influence. Something about sacrificing the one for the many...
(or maybe Harry (or Harry's author) has been watching too many Star Trek reruns.)
