I know what you mean about the abandonment issues -- the way I see the story, the Queen probably didn't know Az was possessed until after DG's little death spell, and then may have been too weak afterwards to try and save Az... but there wasn't any mention of the Queen even trying to save Az.

And those little meetings between the sorceress and Queen -- mega issues there.
