I think I'll write a science fiction novel, but this one will be set in the Obverse (instead of the Universe) and there will be much inversality.

K, so, anyway, this is a bit of an explanatory post about stuff these days and why the lack of writing the WIPS:

So when I started writing all those lovely stories (Inevitable, Dawning Light, Physics of the Spin), I had a job. Now, I do not. Searching for a job is a soul killing, really, and not conducive to the creativity.

That said, I came to the realization last week that I am finding it impossible to work in the WIPs because of this different headspace. After I wrote 3,000 words of Physics of the Spin that was just not the right direction, I hit the delete key and decided that I'll be waiting to work on those until after I have a job and am not going crazy.

So that's how things stand. Interestingly enough, I have an interview across town in 2 hours I need to get moving for! Wish me luck :)

And now a meme taken from [livejournal.com profile] m_ravensblood:

You post a topic, list, category, whatever, in comments. It can be real life stuff (Top Five People I'd Like To Dine With, Top Five Musical Pieces Ever Written, etc.) or fandom (Top Five OTPs, Top Five Things Anita's Going To Hit Harry with once/if they get out of Hogwarts, etc.)

Then, in a separate post, I'll post the answers to all your Top 5 ideas, according to me.

Back in a few hours!

I get that. I've been out of work for a few years at this point, having moved twice cross-country in search of better prospects. I finally have had interviews, and suddenly I want to rewrite my kitsune novel (the one that had been deleted in a fit of despair). Since then, I've written a lot of fanfic one-shots and a weekly drabble for all_unwritten prompts.

And then my husband went into the hospital. Suddenly, I'm grasping to find things to amuse me or distract me. For two weeks, all I did was hang out on the internet, bored to tears. Uninspired, my WIPs stalled, my house accumulating clutter. The longer I'm out of work and stressed about it, the more of a toll it has taken on my creativity. I was fine until he started nagging me about getting a job a few months ago. I have two kids on summer vacation now, whom he assumed could stay home alone for a few hours while I worked, so the best that I can do is start work in Sept. while they are at school.

Anyway, this comment is going nowhere. Pardon my self-absorption. I just wanted to say hang in there, and good luck on the interview.

Best of luck! Top five? How about your top five favorite things to eat for breakfast, and why you love them.

As for writing, I stopped writing fic when I got this job. I wrote as a grad student because I needed to. Now? Not so much, and the headspace is so drastically different that I'm not the same writer at all.

Thanks!

Breakfast post in the next post. That's a thinker, as most of my breakfast foods are eaten of necessity. Not my biggest meal of the day. I blame that on the fact that I am not a morning person.

But yeah. I hear you on the writing thing. I find it strange that we think of ourselves as one thing (hi, i'm bree!), and how that one thing can change so much when a big event comes by (new job, new city, new babby (I'm guessing on that last part but it's an educated guess)). LIFE IS WEIRD.

Amen to that. Job hunting is eating my brain and soul, especially since the job I have at the moment is right at its peak. While I really want more Physics of the Spin, by all means don't write, especially when your sanity is more important! :D I really hope it went well today!

Five things you'd do with your life if you DIDN'T have to work? I got asked this as an additional question on an application: What would you do if you had unlimited money and didn't have to work? I was like, I'm a music teacher. You'd better believe I'd buy instruments for all the kids that didn't have them, and then I'd do nothing but direct young people in musical theatre productions. :D

From: [identity profile] mhalachaiswords.livejournal.com
I'm avoiding Physics of the Spin at the moment because with th emindset I'm in, I'm strongly tempted to do bad things to Rory. And while the story initially does have some low points for the character, it's all part of a cycle that she grows from the conflict and comes out stronger. But right now, I'm wary of taking it too far, something she can't come back from. So I'm not writing it. Instead, I'm writing in other fandoms where I can throw the heroine down a shaft and have her haunted by the ghost of the beloved brother she murdered, and it's all okay because she's tough like that.

Man, I'm really TL;DR today.

The interview went well, I think. I'll hear next week and hopefully it'll be good news!

Oh, lordy-lordy-lordy...I feel your pain. Six months ago, I was panicking about getting back into my college to finish my last quarter to graduate, trying to force my muse into writing ANYTHING, particularly my original capstone project that's due, like, a month before graduation or so. Total writer's block, with the exception of fitful idea sparks. Then I found out they weren't letting me back. I protested, and gave a logical, well-thought argument that basically said that they were uncommunicative stupid poopie-heads--but in the nicest possible way--and they said oops, our bad, you can come back in fall, with your own special capstone class, and with your favorite super-cool ex-advisor back for capstone advisor. I said SWEET! and the muse has finally started creeping back.

Unfortunately, motherly nagging over school, work, capstone, future-ness, the crappy non-hiring economy, etc., has slowed things down, but I'm getting there.

So, yes, I feel your pain.
