I actually have three gmail accounts I check on a regular basis and a few others - it's hard to remember who has what email. It's one of those things that seems like a good idea at the time...
I find gmail to be slightly less annoying than hotmail, although I haven't used hotmail in years so I really have no idea what I'm talking about.
I wonder what the age spread is on using webmail. I suspect that it's much more prevalent amongst we yung'uns. The development of free webmail over the next few years will be interesting.
Well, I think most people seem to have webmail these days. I belong to a group that has an age range from late teens to mid 80s and there is alot of hotmail and yahoo addresses. And AOL. Although I'm not sure what to call AOL because its not my service provider but I have the email, yet there are others who pay AOL for internet and have email. So is it webmail or ISP-based mail?
My school runs its student email accounts through Hotmail, although the tag on it still has the school's name (mybc3.bc3.edu)
True, fandom does tend to maintain a certain level of WTFery on a regular basis. It only seems to get worse with time, ya know? I think it's because I was so far away from it all in those pre-internet days.
With great communication comes great wank? I think part of it is a) how quickly news (and also misunderstandings) spread, and b) how many more people of all ages are semi-anonymously talking with/at each other (exponential potential for FAIL(boat) (http://www.shipmentoffail.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/01/failboat.jpg)).
Failboat for the win! It's even worse imo because people are removed from that face-to-face filter that keeps most conversation in tolerable ranges. All I can say is, O the Internets.
I have far too many email address, but everything gets forwarded to a single gmail account. Even my domain email is through google apps, which is wonderfully convenient.
I still have a yahoo email, but mainly because it's tied to my flickr account.
I did manage to get my firstname.lastname@gmail, which looks nice and has the added 'bonus' of occasionally getting email for other girls with my name.
Technically... oh hell, my email situation is complicated. I have my personal Yahoo, my professional Yahoo, my #2 job's email which is connected to the professional Yahoo addie, my school email account which just sends all messages directly to my professional Yahoo, my #1 job's email which is entirely separate from the intarwebs, and a gmail account I check occasionally. Ahahahahajeeze.
For fandom, I generally don't read the wank, and am just in it for the fic, so I know nothing about the state of the batshit.
For the first two options of 'what would I pick', I thought the whole thing was going to be some surreal poll of random objects that are also band names. Peel! Pixies! Queen! Beirut! Caribou! Health! lol
I would like a spoon for my cake to eat after getting more-sleep while reading fanfic and watching fanvids on MONDAYS! That would be complete hedonism...mmm.
Three have I and all in three: 1. all things personal, work, and fanfic go to gmail (of which I adore the automatically saving and collating draft system!)
2. all things school go to my school account
3. all things junk and who-the-f))-is-this?!-how-did-you-get-my-name?!!#)$^%&@%^ goes to my old hotmail, which I still check on occasion to clear out the trash bin.
I actually have two more emails (I said three), but I don't use them very regularly. To break it down (in case you're interested, although you're probably not ;~P): Of the three I mentioned I have one fandom/Waterfall-related, one more "official" with sort of my real name, and one at the university where I am now. The other two are one from my former university and one for my (little used) writer pseudonym.
Will you be using this for anything in particular?
Not using this for anything. I found myself wondering why I had so many email addresses and then thought "LJ would LOVE to know about this!" and then made a poll because they're fun.
Most posts these days are pretty useless, actually :)
Uni, Gmail (real people), hotmail (trash and website sign-up things). The hotmail has roughly 2600 new, is eight years old and refuses to die. I picked Mondays because I'm perverse and because it's when I have the good lecturer.
Welcome to the crossover(s) -- I should have the end of Agent Afloat Atlantis done this weekend (by hook or crook). I've enjoyed that one quite a bit :)
