Inevitable Twenty: Sinking Like A Stone is posted.

At TTH
(and if TTH is broken:)
At Pomme de Sang

As always, any comments and questions are welcome.

ETA: A word about the progress of Inevitable. I anticipate another 10 to 12 chapters set in St. Louis. Then we move to England for another large number of chapters.

For spoilers on the Half Blood Prince: at this point, I do not anticipate encountering any HBP spoilers until we get to those England chapters. I will advise in big, blinking letters if/when we get spoilers. Also, if I choose to vary from HBP, I'll let you know how we go AU (and it's likely to be if JKR starts killing off the central characters or characters I need for my story. FYI.)

Poor anita. She thinks she can't do anything anymore. The whole, there are people out there that might be better than her, has really shaken her faith in herself. Imagine if Anita let the wizard info slip to Edward. I wonder if Edward would go after wizard people 'cause he thinks they would be a more dangerous kill. *ebil grin*

But excellent chapter! I can't definately wait to read more. :D

I think that while Anita denies it, she's come to expect to be able to deal with any situation. When this happens, it's like she's tossed back to year one.

:)

you'd think she'd be used to this by now... in every book, she runs into some kind of super-powered preturnatural being, gets her ass handed to her for a while, then rallies (with the troops) and kills its ass... the only difference, really, is that this time there's a new player: harry, and the ass-handing hurt a lot more...

Denial ain't just a river in Egypt, and Anita's got denial to spare, I agree. But in *this* situation, there's a slightly moe sinister explaination.... :P

isn't there always?

i'm looking forward to seeing this unfold... my pet theory is a weird interaction between the cruciatus, the stunner and her own necromancy... and only her triumverates and harry can stop it :)

You've made my morning. Thank you! I love watching Anita so hurt. It has been a while since she's come up against something stronger than herself. And while she has questioned her abilities, it interesting watching her try to deal with things alone, the way she did in the early books, even though she has people who, so obviously, want to help her.

On one hand, this is hard to write, because she's so obviously being dumb *even though there's a reason for it), but it's also sort of simple, because it's old-school Anita.

Thanks :)

This is still Anita, however, and she doesn't believe she deserves all the happiness that she has. She really does think that the pain and hurt she receives, whether physical or psychological, is justified. It's why, even in ID, she fights against wanting comfort from Jean-Claude and from Micah. She doesn't want to need either of them or anyone else. She's afraid if she admits that need, she'll lose them.

Thanks for posting so quickly after the last chapter. I just love this story.

... whereas with this story, she thinks she's already lost them and is just trying to physicly get them to leave.

Poor girl. Nothing ever goes her way.

Poor Anita, so screwed up, and it spills over onto everyone else.

Interesting that the pain-on-contact isn't limited to magical folk like Tammy. Or is it?...

Well, even if the pain-on-contact *is* limited to magical people, that's everyone in Anita's life.

I'm digging your icon

True. Whatever the cause, something tells me she's in for (more of) a hard time before it's over! I obviously need to enroll you in Evil Anonymous - they have a twelve-step program for authors who put their characters through the wringer. So repeat after me: "My name is Mhalachai, and I am Evil". It's the first step to your new life...though whether you recover, or learn more evil tricks from your fellow inmates sufferers is up to you ;).

And Black Books is life - Bernard here, Manny before.

Well, actually, I am :) But don't worry, it all be resolved... kind of, anyway, in three chapters.

Three loooooong chapters.

And even then, not really.
