So, apparently at the Wolf Howl last night, LKH told the audience that everything's signed and on the go to make a movie out of Guilty Pleasures.

I, um... Not quite sure what to think of that. Okay.

I think one of the key questions is really what does it mean that everything is signed. Does it mean that the book has been optioned? Plenty of books are optioned and nothing ever comes of it. Whose going to write the script? That has me more worried than the casting.

But honestly, I don't want to see it made into a movie. No one is going to portray these characters the way I see them in my head.

If i tell you that Jason Alexander of Seinfeld fame is attached to the production somehow, will that scare you even more?

I really wish they'd put a note up on her site or something. She can't have thought that telling the Wolf Howl people wouldn't generate this kind of internet speculation. Or, maybe they didn't think of that. Hrm.

I had heard about Jason Alexander earlier. He's likely just bankrolling the project. I was surprised not to get a LKH Bit or see something on her blog.

Like I said, I wasn't there and don't know exactly what was said but Charlaine Harris's first Sookie book was optioned several years ago. She said all she's gotten out of the deal was enough money to buy a new van. Books are optioned for movies daily. Few make it to the big screen.

The more I think about this, I think it would be a hell of an internet prank, if that's what it is. I've already gotten two notes about this on various parts of my blog (different notes and names, but from the same IP address, so.) I do hope we hear from the woman herself soon.

I'm looking forward to the effort myself. Like was mentioned, and I said to Rebecca, if it has a film noir, almost Bladerunner type feel to it, it would be very cool. And if they go for relative unknown actors, and pay the money for the special effects to mimic her world as closely as possible, it could be a really kick ass movie. Maybe it works, maybe it doesn't, but it wouldn't effect my enjoyment of the series.

LKH is apparently writing the screenplay for it, which allows her to keep some control I would think.

Did it say that on the Board that she's writing the screen play? I think it's interesting that we don't have confirmation from Laurell or Darla about this. This isn't something that can be kept secret.

If she's writing the screenplay, at least that part would work. And except for Irving, this is vamps only. But...

It's over in the spoiler section of the main board. There are spoilers from additional chapter readings too that are very interesting. I won't go into detail, but if you're a spoiler junkie like I am you'll enjoy them! Someone asked in the thread if it was a case of a studio buying the rights to the book, or if an actual movie is in the works. Apparently an actual movie is in the works, and LKH said that she is doing the screenplay.

I see no reason to doubt the veracity of the information, and I would think if it was a blatant fallacy it would be pulled off the board. {shrug} I'm sure Laurell or someone will post news of it eventually.
