Two for [livejournal.com profile] hp100 (crossposted). Guess what kind of mood I'm in! Some AB fic in a bit.

Title: Black Velvet
Character: Lily, Sirius
Rating: Mature
Author's Note: A pairing I've never written before: Lily and Sirius. Set before Harry was born. The song is Alannah Myles' Black Velvet

~~

She loved James, she did. She'd married him, after all, with Sirius at James's side, at her side... his body hot against hers while they danced.

She wasn't proud of what she was doing, and she couldn't stop.

Black velvet, and that little boy smile.

Stolen kisses while James was out, and more. Hands under her skirt, strong fingers touching, deft and light and forbidden, dancing inside until she came, gasping and guilty on her husband's bed.

Bring you to your knees.

James knew, he had to. She didn't know how to say sorry, and didn't know how to stop.
~~

Title: Peacekeeper
Character: Harry, the others
Rating: PG
Author's Note: After it's all over. The song is Fleetwood Mac's Peacekeeper.

~~

The war was over. Some even said they'd won.

You know all of our friends are gods.

Things weren't the same. Ginny hadn't spoken since Greyback... Neville was insane, driven mad by Bellatrix, another generation of Longbottoms destroyed. Hermione was dead, but that was still better than Ron pretending she'd never existed.

They all tell us how to paint our face.

Harry stared at himself in the glass. Eyes a little duller, face a little blanker. There was no one left to recognize the mask.

Wait for the dark of night.

They hadn't won. There was nothing left to win.

Madre mia...That second one was utterly in the moment. The description and the mood and everything were just right.

Thank you. I can't see them coming out of this conflict whole.... I always wonder just how bad it can get.

Astonishingly enough, I suspect that Book Seven will be the most hopeful of them all -- she's hinted that it will be all about the redeeming/transformative powers of love. (Or she could be just looking to throw us all a big fat curveball after the unremitting angstfests of the last three books. :-)

... thanks? I know what you mean. I was in a foul mood last night (I quit my job yesterday), so.

Oh the second one! *tears* I wish for a happy ending in book seven, but I just can't see that being realistic...*sigh*

Amazing drabbles...sad, but believable. =)

Well, frankly, she's writing a kids book. Good will win, or rather Love will win, and mostly everyone will live. I hope. (Personally, I think Neville's safe)

Huh. Peacekeeper strikes me as a plausible result of a bunch of teenagers "defeating" a psychotic genius and his sadistic minions. I know JKR has said she won't kill Ron, but hasn't made the same claim for Hermione. Destroying Neville is exactly Bellatrix's style. Ginny's record of surviving damaged - check. I doubt that JKR will end things quite that darkly, but you've made it all very plausible in a very short space. Neat.

As for Black Velvet, I have no particular interest in MWPP-era fics, nor in infidelity stories, and I haven't got a good enough sense of Lily or even Sirius to have any kind of basis for evaluating it, so I have no comment beyond this: now I'm picturing Sally Bowles (Liza Minelli) as Lily, damnit! :-P

I hope the employment transition/situation/whatever goes well. I hope that quitting was empowering or at least a relief.

Hell, even I don't like the first one. I've never written a fic on the previous generation before -- their story is over. It just sort of came to me in the coffee shop yesterday.

I don't think it'll end quote as badly - it is a children's book, after all, and hopefully the body count will remain in single digits.
