Note: At 521 words, this is a quick read. It's an Inevitable future fic, so what happens in here may or may not happen in storyline. Summary? Harry and Anita UST their way through an argument. Jason wonders when they're going to get a room, and Nathaniel wonders when he got that headache.

"I'm being unreasonable?"

Anita's incredulous shout was clearly audible as far away as the kitchen. Nathaniel glanced in the direction of the living room, then shook his head.

"Your deal."

Jason gave the wereleopard a look as he gathered up the cards. "They've been at that for almost an hour," he said. "When are they going to stop it?"

"I'll give it another ten minutes before I go break it up," Nathaniel said distractedly as he looked at his cards. "Or until they start talking about Dallas again."

Jason picked up his cards and sorted them. "You know, one of these days they're just going to give in to their animal attraction and just have a go at it."

Nathaniel didn't react, just tossed down two cards.

"You have to know what I mean," Jason pressed. "Harry's what, twenty-three years old now?"

"Doesn't matter," Nathaniel said. "They can't have sex."

"Why not?" Jason tossed down two cards and waited for Nathaniel to cut the deck. "They spend so much time together, they fight like cats and dogs, and they both think the other's hotter than hot, even if they won't say it."

Nathaniel sighed. "I know all that," he said. "And it wouldn't bother me if they did. But it's still a bad idea."

"Name one reason," Jason insisted.

Nathaniel raised his violet eyes. "For starters? Richard."

Jason bit his lip. "Well--"

"Richard finds out Anita and Harry had sex, he'll get all weird around her and also him."

"Okay, but--"

"Then there's Damian," Nathaniel continued. "Damian would think it was really strange, to the point of freaky, that his master and his grandson got it on."

"Okay, that's two, but--"

"And have you thought about what would happen if Asher found out?"

Jason paled, then winced.

"And Jean-Claude might not mind too much, because he gets Anita and Harry's relationship, but I'm not sure about Micah."

"Wait, what do you mean about Micah?" Jason demanded.

Nathaniel hurriedly looked back at his cards and put one down. "Ten. I'm not sure how Harry would react... you know how he is, but that still leaves the number one reason that Anita and Harry shouldn't have sex."

"Five, for fifteen and two points. All right, fine. I give up. What's the number one reason that Harry and Anita shouldn't have sex?" Jason asked.

Nathaniel put his hand against his forehead, a move that Jason recognized as him developing a headache. "You know I love Anita, but..."

"But?"

Nathaniel was silent for a moment, long enough for Jason to hear Harry's rising voice mention the word "Dallas," and he knew things were turning bad. "But Anita can get whiny when she does stuff she thinks she's not supposed to," Nathaniel said, rising. "So if she has sex with Harry, then she'll think afterwards she did a bad thing, and she'll whine for like a month and that's a really, really long time." He hurried out of the room.

A crash, a smash, then sudden silence. Jason hoped that Nathaniel had averted bloodshed.

If not, then maybe I can have Harry's stereo, Jason thought as he snuck a peek at Nathaniel's cards.

I was so excited to stumble upon this on my last lj check for the night :)

First of all...Nathaniel is too cute/funny/everything good in this world! I like how he's the voice of reason here.

Secondly, since this is just a possible outtake of Inevitable, I noticed no mention of Ginny/Luna...hmmm. I won't take anything too seriously though ;)

But yeah, it all started when I was wondering how Asher would react if Harry and Anita got horizontal in that unclothed sort of way. Yeah, we'll blame that.

Oh, that was really sweet! For a minute there I thought you were referring to the TV show Dallas, but then I thought, why would they argue about that? Of course, if they're anything like Angel and Spike and their whole astronauts and cavemen talk...It was really good, sweet as sugar, can't wait for more.

Charming outtake! It's so classic Jason, which I love, but it also shows Nathaniel's depth, how he really does see the world around him, particularly when it comes to Anita. He just 'gets' her in a way she probably finds profoundly disturbing.

ANd yes, a 23 year old Harry would be hot.

By this point, Nathaniel is a worldy 27; that's a lot of years with Anita. He's honed his understanding of her character. (Also what he's not saying to Jason is that it would make Anita unhappy, if she thought she'd done something bad to Harry, and Nathaniel doens't want her to be unhappy)

Cute ficlet. Nathaniel's frustration was especially amusing.

Here's the thing, though... With Anita being who she is, and Harry being who he is, it's really only a matter of time before the UST is resolved. I mean, it's bad enough with basic attraction, though they'd both try to avoid making anything of it just because of the same complications Nathaniel listed (and others, I'm sure). With the ardeur thrown in the mix, and whatever funky connection Harry and Anita have?

You could say that it's inevitable.

Oh this was awesome! I loved this little peek into what might happen in Harry and Anita's future. The Jason/Nathaniel interaction and point of view was great...Nathaniel being all logical to Jason's just thinking Anita and Harry should jump in the sack.

I have to admit, though...it would be interesting to see the aftermath of Harry and Anita having sex =P I'm sure it would make for some interesting reading! ♥

Your Nathaniel/Jason friendship cracks me up.

They crack me up too. I really love watching that dynamic -- Nathaniel is quiet and smart and very, very observant. Jason is too, but his smarts are him being smart, where Nathaniel honed his skills over years on the streets. They notice different things, and look at the consequences as such (so Jason wants Anita and Harry to be happy, while Nathaniel thinks of the bad things that might come)

It may be the geekiest thing ever, but I play cribbage with my folks on Sunday before Sunday dinner. So yeah :?

I'm glad you found them too :) I should get around to posting them somewhere else, but it's just so easy to have them up here.

Writing only Anita so often, I tend to forget what the others are thinking. I consider this a creative challenge. And some days, I feel very challenged :P
