As I was chatting with [livejournal.com profile] ranlynn, I was inspired and I thought about it and this popped out of my head. a theory on the whole Mother of All Darkness thing from the latest Anita Blake book.

As I mentioned to someone in the last post, my theory on the Mother of All Darkness/Marmie Noir connection to Anita is this:

I think Marmie Noir was originally a necromancer.

And she used her mad phat necromancy skillz to make herself into the first vampire back in the day.

Then she made all other vampires.

Then she said "kill all necromancers, fool!" so that no one could gain control of her power base.

Then she got bored and went to have a nap.

Then Anita got born, and Marmie Noir's mad phat necromancy skillz were all like "Dude, I felt a great disturbance in the Force" and she starts to wake up.

Then Anita grows up and does mad phat necromancy of her own, pulling Marmie Noir a bit more awake.

Then Anita starts banging everyone in town gains the ardeur and becomes a succubus and is more powerful and Marmie Noir's all like, "All right, I get it, I'm up!"

Then the dream thing in Danse Macabre and Marmie Noir's all like, "Damn, it's like seeing a little me, as I was millions of years ago" and she sheds a single tear.

The only question is now if Marmie Noir wants to kill Anita, corrupt her, or hand over the reigns of vampiredom.

That's my theory and I'm sticking to it.

THE END

Dude - that is such an ass-kicking theory.

I didn't get the sense that Marmie Noir was entirely malevolent towards Anita, y'know. Not thrilled with her, but not like "Die now!" either.

That was pretty much my take on things...
When you have been around since, well, forever... it takes a lot to arouse your curiosity. If Anita has to potential to become something everyone should fear, like Marmee Noire, the question remains: WWMD? (What Will Marmee Do?)
I get the impression that Marmee is chaotic neutral. She's not evil, per se. She seems just as likely to kill Anita as help her, and could keep her alive for amusement and then kill her later out of boredom.

Oh, I know. It was very much a curiosity thing. Not anger like Belle Morte, but then the Dark Mother isn't exactly what you'd call human. At least, that's how I see it.

It's a quote from a cartoon called The Venture Bros; the (rather incompetent) evil villain The Monarch claims to have been "locked in a deadly game of cat and also cat" for years with Dr Venture. Too good not to iconise :).

Good theory.
I think that the Mother of All Darkness want to own Anita. In Danse Macabre there's that part when the Mother tells Anita it's a good thing she hasn't taken the fourth mark, since she (the Mother) would destroy Anita if she could not have her.

That sort of a theory doesn't deny this theory, in that one might take the "co-opting of like powers" to heart.

Sorry, I'm a little zoned right now. Language is not my strong suit.

He can be sent to try and stop Dark Mommmy, and Anita will have to make a choice, as to saving him or helping the darkenss.

Or maybe she'll just call in sick and grab a burger.

That actually...makes a whole lot of sense. Brilliant!

That being said, Danse Macabre is basically a plotless set up for the next book. There are bits of possible plot, but no real story besides "Anita's gaining mad crazy powers and the Mother of All Darkness is waking up". I was a bit bummed. LKH didn't really do anything with the bits of plot that was there. I was a bit disappointed. But then again, I plowed through it in 4 hours while sitting at Barnes & Nobel, so a re-read may be in order.

Yeah. That's why is pissed me off so much. I like plot in my books. Call me old fashioned. I'll use the canon bits that we got (the very few) but otherwise, it's a boat anchor.

At least you didn't buy the book, though. Small favours.

It's true...it's a "transition book", paving the way for the next one. You ever hear about the series called Wheel of Time? yea, Robert Jordan's last, like, four books were a lot of transition...killed the series for me. The tenth book? Whole thing took place during the epilogue of the last book, only from other peoples' points of view...so annoying!

Hopefully, there will be some major plot in the next one. If there is, I will forgive her for DM.

LOL....you know I think your right...well actually maybe she was a lycanthropy and that messed with her power making her a vampire which is why you cant be both.

But if she was the original darkness while still having a humanoid form, I figure she'd be older than Mr. Oliver, which would make her... I don't know. Odd.

... you know, that made sense in my head. It's really late. Anyway, I agree with you.

Ahhh, so you loved the book that much, huh? I've read nothing but bad reviews so I think I'm going to steer away from it. Although, I didn't mind ID THAT much. I might wait until it's on sale in Aust (which means I won't be reading it for a year).

There's not much on the fic adding at the moment, mainly drabbles. It's been so long since I've written that the words are a little... reluctant to flow.

Heh, I love how flippant you are in these little things.

Oddly enough it's taking me a little bit to get through the book. I think I'd rather read your ficcies the way this is going. I think you spoil us with your writing.

If I ever get the career I want, I'll so pay you to just sit around and write your own books, that way we know we'll have a good reading to look forward too. *shrugs*

Have any rec's on any? I can't seem to find any books to buy, oddly enough. Think I might go to Borders before I have class tomorrow.(a useless class at that, I think I know how to use a computer)

I think it's a great theory ...

I do think personally that Marmie is related to Anita - perhaps her great-great-great-great-to infinity-great grandmother or something. I just get this connection feeling and think it's more to do with family than with skills. As it's been pointed it, it's curiosity that we sense with Marmie towards Anita, not malevolence.

It's be interesting if the 4th strain in Anita isn't an actual lycanthrope but something to do with Marmie somehow .. though they don't coincide in the plot (yes that little thing down in the corner). :)

I got more of the feeling that Marmie Noir was intrigued, but still could care less. She's probably all for playing with Anita just because she can.

''hand over the reigns of vampiredom.''

OMG, I hadn't even thought of that. Anita the woman all vampires bow down to, queen of the universe.

and as for the sex thing, Ok people, the girl has to eat.... There is no way to side step it, it has to be someone not connected to her, so...
what can she do?

but I do think she could down play it a bit, it wouldn't hurt her to have a friendly snack, and she has so many boys that some are being ignored.

Great theory, makes perfect sense. Maybe you could send that plot bunny on over to LKH and she'll get her mojo back. Is the series coming to an end though? I mean once you fight the ultimate vamp, ultimate darkness you can't really go back from there. Nothing would top it. To quote (mangle and paraphrase) Xander from BtVS:
"What do you guys want to do tonight? We could crush the master's bones with a sledgehammer, but oh we did that last night..."
Would all vampires just fall down and die if their momma died? I mean it could be a thing like with Damian and Anita where Marmie Noir keeps everyone alive by existing. That woud kinda suck if Anita had to choose btwn letting vamps and Marmie live or losing JC, Asher, Requiem (ooooh), and all her other consorts.
