Hey kids. It's funny how a 60-hour work week doesn't leave me a lot of energy for writing, or LJing, or much of anything, really. Anyway, here, have some Anita Blake drabbles.

Title: Trust
Characters: Edward

Edward kept his weaponry well-stocked. One never knew when a hunt for the preternatural would start. Always be prepared: motto of Boy Scouts and assassins.

Edward trusted his weapons; knew the weight of each knife, the recoil of every gun. There was only one thing in his stock that left him uneasy.

It was the tiny vials of holy water. Edward didn't like depending on others, even those he could rely on, like Anita. Edward didn’t trust God, or in God, or any of that shit. God was a fickle ally at best.

The only thing Edward trusted was Death.

~~~~
Title: Deserving
Characters: Nathaniel, Asher
Note: Extreme Danse Macabre spoilers. Hence the cut.
Nathaniel usually avoided staring at Asher; the vampire would get ideas and while Nathaniel hadn’t minded the vampire's distant attention, Asher had almost killed Anita. The thought of losing Anita made Nathaniel feel sick and empty, and it was all Asher’s fault.
That night at the club, while Asher was busy, Nathaniel hid in the shadows and watched the vampire. The scars on the side Asher's face showed through the curtain of golden hair. Nathaniel used to think no one deserved the kind of pain that holy water had wrought upon Asher.
But that was before Asher almost killed Anita.
I'm not sure Edward needs a hug. More like electroshock therapy.
How exactly do you mean, about Nathaniel?
Ah yes, Edward would find God an unreliable ally.
And poor Nathaniel, but I totally see his side of the story.
I'm not sure Edward trusts anyone. He can rely on others (like Anita) but not so much the trust.
Poor Nathaniel never catches a break. He needs a vacation. Better yet, drag Anita on a 6-month vacation. Now that would be quality entertainment.
neat drabbles...
as to the lack of LJ... look on the bright side.. you are getting paid for 60hrs of work right? (we hope) so make hay while the sun shines and we will keep checking in for more good stuff
Thank you.
I'm getting paid eventually. I'm only having the time right now to write on the weekends, and even then only occasionally. Like this last weekend, I only got 21kb of writing done. That's not a lot for me at all. I blame the sleep-depreivation :)
Perfectly Edward. :)
And :( well heck. That doesn't sound like Asher but then I haven't read the book yet. :) It DOES sound like Nathaniel though. Always with the perfect voices! And I agree with [livejournal.com profile] shopteacher_guy make with the hay-making now. We're all good. :)
You're right, it doesn't sound like Asher, but the whole thing was sort of... odd.
Luckily for me, I've got a week off at the end of this month, which I think I will have a chance to write during (how ungrammatical of me). I look forward to that like you cannot believe.
I mean the whole thing in the book.
Well, actually, I mean the book in whole.
Interesting that Edward believes God exists, he just doesn't trust him. I an see him having a problem with holy water. I mean, what if there was a problem with the priest who blessed the water? Does holy water have an expiration date? What if God just plain doesn't like you? Eesh. I think it's kind of weirdly cute that he trusts Anita like that.
Nathaniel... I like it. There's a whole lot of fucked up in that boy. I really like that Nathaniel is probably one of the characters in the books that kills more easily. Most people don't think about it, but he probably would have very few problems killing or even torturing someone who threatens his security. And now Asher has threatened his security.
Upon more thought, I don't think that Edward really *trusts* Anita, he just feels he can rely on her.
Yeah, Nathaniel has a much more interesting way of looking at the world. He's bound and determined to protect the safety Anita has brought into her life, and frankly I think that he's playing her. For her own good, of course.
And I can't see him tortuing anyone, but certainly killing.
I really hope the next book deals with the fall-out of what Asher and Anita did.
60 hour work week! (UGH)Been there done that. Never easy and everything else falls away to the side. Hope you are eating your wheaties :)
Really liked the Drabble with Nathaniel. Of course he is one of my favorites. I love how you find a way to write about an incident and make the character so real in their reactions. I mean that is EXACTLY what Nathaniel would be wondering after DM. Anyone who read it would think, yeah, now that Nathaniel is finding his more dominant half, what would he do about Asher and his actions? I wonder what Nathaniel is going to grow into? I think he is more powerful then anyone thinks, that there is more that he can do and will do within his binding with Anita and Damian. Hope the real author explores some of that, but I won't be holding my breath.
Say, if you are still in your drabble mood with not much time for anything longer story wise, PDS has just listed a new challenge #32 Scars. The Lycanthropes team has some master Drabblers way beyond my humble ability. So, if you feel the drabble bunny needing an escape, hop on over to the site and put it under Team Vampire. Cuz we all know you are the Supreme master of the Drabble :)
Hope work slows a bit so you don't burn out. And we will all be here waiting patiently. Honestly with IN 70 in the wings, where else would we go ; )
Eating lots of campus food, which is always bad. It's like coated in evil.
You know, Nathaniel's life would be a lot easier if Anita wasn't so... I dunno. Hard to handle. It's hard to know what someone wants from you when she doesn't even know what she wants from herself.
I tried to do some of the PDS drabbles, but the prompts sometimes fail to move me. Maybe it's the weather, I dunno.
Ugh, campus food. That sometimes is even worse than working 60 hours. My dad always used to send me Scooby vitamins. Cuz, you are right, Campus food=evil.
And yeah, if Anita would get a grip, then Nathaniel would have a much happier life. Maybe he needs to help her get a grip. Hmmmm think there is a story somewhere? ;)
I don't think Anita will let Nathaniel or anyone help her get a grip -- she has those weird control issues, and she can always find a way, by starting a fight or anything, to push people away.
Which sucks, but you know. It's her.
From: [identity profile] necromancer5.livejournal.com
I know. It is so her. Control, and he knows that too. But, wouldn't that be an interesing discussion between them. Him a member of her new triumvariate questioning her about the choices, her actions. Even if it didn't accomplish anything I think it would make for an interesting read (nudge, nudge :)
These were excellent. The one about Edward seemed so very on target. As for Nathaniel and Asher, I hope we do get some fallout from that. It couldn't have been good seeing that from the other side!
Thank you. I too want fall-out from the Asher thing. While Anita wasn't totally innocent in this one, one would think it would fall to Asher, who has killed however many people over the years in exactly that type of act, to not go overboard on Anita. Again.
It takes awhile to get used to being busy again :)...I just started my preseason training in soccer and finished up 10 full practices in the last 5 days. Definitely haven't had a lot of creative energy either :) It's nice to see you though, and great drabbles...I liked the character observations in both.
Word up to that. I haven't had much time for anything, and it's not even funny how tired I am.
Glad you liked the drabbles :)
Incredible. The second one was especially touching, it makes me hurt for Nathaniel. And for some reason Asher as well, but I'm peculiar that way.
Thank you. Nathaniel's like a little puppy, you just want to bundle him up and take him home.
Or maybe that's just me.
Ugh, 60 hours...I'm totally there with you on that one. It's tiring, but hey...money's a good thing!
Edward was so perfectly Edward, and I felt so sad for Nathaniel in the second (Asher, too, really...one fit of passion and he loses the trust of Nathaniel...one of Anita's closest boys).
Money is nice. It buys me pretty things and lets me not have to sleep in my car.
Thanks re: the drabbles. I have a wish-list of things I want to see in the next AB book (which I probably won't get, and may not read, but that's a different rant) and at the top is "Nathaniel and Asher deal with Asher almost killing Anita".
One day, I might get around to writing that myself.
