so, like stuff?
Oct. 30th, 2006 09:53 pmThis was going to be a poll, but then I realized that there's only one story that I wanted to do this with. So:
Do you think I should remix Family Hour to fit with Dawning Light?
Cuz dude, it would rock so hard.
Mostly, I wanted to make a poll, as it's been so long. I figured out that what I really want is interaction. So, here's your challenge:
Ask me any question regarding any fic. I will answer.
*checks watch* go!

Date: 2006-10-31 06:26 am (UTC)Any question? Hm. If you want to ramble for a few pages about your views on Teeny!Dawn's psyche, that would be cool. Any and all news about Inevitable is always welcome. Oh, and do you think you'll be doing any of those outtakes/POV switches from one of your longer fics (Inevitable, Dawning Light, Balancing Act) anytime soon? I love those. They're like potato chips, can't read just one.
And I guess I'll just take this opportunity to say again how much I enjoy your writing. I know it's a little weird to spend so much of my time pondering the work of a Canadian ficcer (much more common than the more widely known Yellow-bellied Sapsucker)but I do spend a largish chunk of my day thinking about your fics. And just... thank you.

Date: 2006-10-31 06:41 am (UTC)Yes, I give this a lot of thought.
Outtakes: I plan to do several for Dawning Light. There will be a break in Dawning Light (timewise in the 'verse, not in writing) that will require a massive outtake so I can intro a new character. It's not the normal way to deal with stories, but it needs a different POV and I decided a while ago to make Dawning Light strictly Dawn POV.
Balancing Act has the benefit of having 2 POVs, so I don't really need any outtakes.
As for Inevitable... There is a sequel in the works, dealing with the issues after the end of the story, so no real outtakes planned at this point.
Yay to enjoying my writing! Frankly, the best part of writing is talking about my creations with people. It's all about the interactions, to see what works and what doesn't, and all that jazz. What's interesting is seeing what registers. Sometimes, when writing, there are things I think will be commented upon, but people pick up on other areas entierly. It's nothing I can predict.
What I mean is, art doesn't exist in a vacuum, and frankly needs to be part of this interaction. (Did I just call myself an artist? Blame the merlot and the wanky fanvids I'm watching.)
And thank *you* for reading.

Date: 2006-10-31 06:42 am (UTC)so question about Dawning Light.
In this fic Dawn is able to do even SAT stuff pretty easily while the BTVS Dawn hated math. Is math in Anita verse is easier or she actually somehow ended up being smarter as one of the changes.

Date: 2006-10-31 06:49 am (UTC)Did the math thing come in later in season 5? I can't recall. I do remember that Dawn was pretty into school at the very beginning of season 5, her intro into the show.

Date: 2006-10-31 06:49 am (UTC)Ooohhh. Any question?
You've been delving into Supernatural, and have done some crossovers of it with Anita Blake. Ever thought about a crossover where Sam or Dean becomes a lycanthrope? Because I'm of the belief that Dean as a were-leopard would be hot.
Also, you're obviously a huge Anita Blake fan, and I'm going to guess that you've ready at least some of the Merry Gentry series. Any plans to crossover the two?
Finally, Tarnished Sidekicks. I have two major questions. First, you mentioned that Hermione had several of her fingers ripped off. What fingers does she have left (This has been bugging me ever since I first read it)? Second, is there any chance of expanding on the fic?

Date: 2006-10-31 03:35 pm (UTC)I have read the MG series. But I just can't get interested in writing an AB/MG crossover. Or in writing any MG fics, actually. The world's not all that interesting to me. Not sure why I can't get into it, but there you go.
Tarnished Sidekicks: You know, I can't remember what fingers they would be. I think (and my memory is probably faulty) that it was the pinky and the ring finger (I know, 2 =! several, but that's what sticks in my head). And not sure about expanding. I never say never, but I also have the attention span of a caffeinated toddler, and seldom go back to older fics. Hell, I have a hard enough time finishing things I've been working on :P

Date: 2006-10-31 03:34 pm (UTC)And with my writing, it's all always percolating in my head. Inevitable is a tricky one, though -- I have to reread what I've previously done in order to get moving again, and there is *so much* written that it's daunting, to say the least.

Date: 2006-10-31 08:29 am (UTC)as for the rest more of all your stories please i love them all (except your supernatural ones i dont watch that so no more of those) bit more inevitable lots and lots more, all of it, but i dont want it to end so make it go on forever and ever and ever and ever please :-) :-) :-)

Date: 2006-10-31 03:32 pm (UTC)As for the Dawning Light: Family Hour, it will be fun. Frankly, anything with wee!Dawn is fun to write. It's like the cuteness antidote for what ails you.

Date: 2006-10-31 03:08 pm (UTC)OMG yes. That would be completely awesome. I mean, keep the original version around too, but I'd love to see it with Dawn included. (If only because I figure Anita would go completely thermonuclear at any perceived offense to Dawn. So, I think, would Nathaniel - but as I recall he wasn't around.)
Any question . . . hrmm . . . lemme think on that and get back to you, right now there's a shrill barking dog in the background and it's making thinking difficult.

Date: 2006-10-31 06:58 pm (UTC)Real answer: Depends on the story. With Dawning Light, it's all Dawn's limited POV because it's her story. Inevitable is both Anita and Harry because a) their story is joint and b) there is too much information that the other does not know, and needs to be part of the narrative. IE Harry thinking about Hermione and Ron makes sense, but he wouldn't tell Anita about it. That kind of thing.
I tend to try and stick with one POV in a story. It's less confusing, as I've found from Inevitable.
So to sum up -- I tell the person's story from the person's POV.
Am I making sense? It's a hard day and I've got a headache.

Date: 2006-10-31 08:05 pm (UTC)I don't know about mixing things, so I won't offer an opinion. I could tell you what I'd enjoy more of, though: I really like Dawn-at-5 figuring out Anita's world, and Anita's world figuring out Dawn-at-5. They're really slow on the uptake, and considering how much other fantastic stuff they swallow (because the proof is right in front of them) that's a good dynamic. And you've very skillfully differentiated the characters' ability and willingness to see and accept Dawn-at-5 for who and what she is.
I'm not a huge fan of Micah (who the heck is he? I don't think LKH has written him very explicitly as an individual with his own needs, desires, and goals: he's just a spear-carrier in Anita's world), but I liked the story about his family.
I'm very impressed with your writing, and I thank you for giving me so much pleasure.

Date: 2006-11-02 07:51 am (UTC)As for the "accepting the 15" thing... No matter what weird stuff the AB people face, this is just so far outside of their areas of expertise that it's hard to approcah. Does that make sense? What I mean is, in Anita's world, vampires are common-place. But children don't shift ages. It'll take a while for them to understand that, if they ever do.
Micah... I tend to make him my own character. I understand what you mean about his character without meaning, but I've got an idea in my head, made from my mini-observations, about his backstory. We know what he will take, but at some point in several of my future stories, I plan to examine what he won't take, as part of his character development via me. I think Micah has a hell of a lot of potential, and one day I hope LKH deals with that. If not, I plan to.
And yeah, that's all I can coherently type right now. It's really late and I'm wiped.
Welcome to the blog :D

Date: 2006-10-31 09:52 pm (UTC)Do you know how long Dawning Light is going to be?
Is there still going to be a sequel to Inevitable?
Uhm, is there a lottery in Canada you can win so you can write 'fic as your day job? : )

Date: 2006-11-01 06:26 pm (UTC)About 20 chapters
Yes. Oh, hell yes.
And if there is, let me know so I can win it! I'd love to write all day :D

Date: 2006-10-31 10:34 pm (UTC)Definitely. I can't wait to see the Callahan's meeting Dawn. She seems pretty protective of Micah, Nathaniel and Anita. And with a fifteen years old brain... it can get messy. Anyway, I'd *love* to see that :)

In a manner of speaking. But that will occur after the end of IN, so who knows what we will see.

I don't know why, but I'll read ANYTHING when crossed with AB, even though I don't really like AB fic itself.
