Rating: Overall, R for swearing and violence. PG in this part.
Characters: That's the surprise. But lots of John Winchester.
Words: 750
Spoilers: Contain spoilers for season two for Supernatural, especially the first episode.
~~~~~~
John Winchester was a man who knew what he wanted.
For so many long years, years stretched into decades, he had wanted to vanquish the evil creature that killed Mary and threatened his sons. He wanted to stop evil in all its forms, make the world a little less dangerous.
In those years, sometimes he forgot that he wanted his sons to have long, healthy lives. More than anything, he wanted his sons safe.
So close to the Demon, he forgot everything. He forgot until he was sitting, bruised and broken, at Dean's bedside, watching his oldest son in a coma, so badly hurt that he couldn't even breathe on his own.
Too late, he remembered how much he loved and needed his sons.
So he made a deal. Dean's life in exchange for his, and he didn't even blink.
Now, with Dean back and safe, John Winchester said as much of a goodbye to Sam as he could muster. He was never going to see Sam marry, never going to see Dean hunt again, would never be with his sons again. And it mattered more than anything in the world, that John was losing so much more to the evil sonofabitch that killed Mary, but John wouldn't change his mind. In the end, he had gotten what he wanted.
Leaving Dean's room was the hardest thing John had ever done, but he walked down the hall, the Colt tucked in his waistband. The hall had never been so long, yet so short.
John didn't know what would happen after he was dead. Would he see Mary again? Would he ended up damned for all time? Or would everything just stop?
He was about to find out.
John walked into the empty room where the Demon was waiting. He drew out the Colt, the bright morning sunlight catching the gleam of his wedding ring as he laid the gun on the table.
"Okay."
And John Winchester died.
~~~
There were things the Demon did not see, did not know. John realized them all as his body fell, as the young woman appeared by his side and took his hand, pulled him away from his body and away from his life.
You might not have to fear the Reaper, but never try to use them. They see all, they never forget, and they never forgive.
The Demon did not see as the Reaper took John away, away from the hospital and into the light.
~~~
Light.
John blinked, unable to move anything other than his eyelids. There was a light in his eyes.
He blinked again, trying to focus. He was supposed to be dead. Was this dead? Unmoving, only seeing light?
Pain returned to John in flashes. Not the pains of his old body; these pains were new. His head hurt, his ribs, his throat. There was no pain from his leg or arm.
What pain was this?
John managed to turn his head a little, and the room slowly came into focus. He was in a hospital room, different from the room he'd been in less than... how long ago had it been?
Muffled sounds drifted into the room, and John listened as hard as he could.
"Mrs. Parnell, we have reviewed your son's case. There is nothing else we can do."
A woman, crying softly. "Do you mean he's not... not going to wake up?"
"I'm sorry."
The woman cried a little louder. Another male voice chimed in. "Thank you, doctor. Donna, come on."
The sounds faded, leaving John alone with his thoughts and a non-functioning body.
Think. He wasn't dead, and he knew that was because of the Reaper. Somehow, the Demon had fucked up its own deal. John only hoped that this didn't come back on Dean.
The thought of his sons hurt, but John pushed that away. He could think about the boys later, once he got his ass up and out of this place.
Soft footsteps caught John's attention. A little girl, sniffling, edged into the room, looking at the floor. She was holding a teddy bear as if it was a lifeline. Another step, and she stopped. Taking a deep breath, the girl raised her eyes to John. When she saw John's eyes open, she dropped the bear.
"P-Peter?" she gasped. John could only blink at her. Who the hell was Peter?
The girl turned on her heel and ran out of the room. "Mom! Ted! Peter's awake!"
Date: 2006-11-13 03:37 am (UTC)You do, indeed, have the most cracktastic ideas. I love the idea of John in Peter's body. Now I'm wondering if Edward will have issues with this person who looks like Peter like Wes did after Fred died, and wow, did I ever not think I'd type that sentence.
I'm a little sad though. I liked Peter.
Date: 2006-11-13 12:01 am (UTC)You have the crackiest crossover ideas, I swear. Can't wait to see where this goes. And when Edward will catch on. And what on earth he'll think has happened.
Do you call in the necromancer when your stepson's been replaced by a ghost? Inquiring minds want to know! :P
Date: 2006-11-13 08:32 am (UTC)Let's just say Edward will see that something is amiss. Phear.
Do you call in the necromancer when your stepson's been replaced by a ghost?
My side of that question is what John Winchester will think of the world's most powerful necromancer suddenly shows up on his doorstep? I suspect a shot-gun might figure in the equation.
I will certainly continue. I think this has the possibility to be a great story. Nay, a fantastic story.
This weekend, pick out three of your favorite writers, those you’ve been reading regularly --- probably for *years* ---and send them a private note telling them you’re out there. Just that. Even if you’ve never, ever done it before. Even if you write yourself. Any fandom, all your fandoms, etc.
Hi. I had a small idea, not really a lightbulb, more like a candle. I just got done watching 1x02 "Wendigo", and I thought that Haley (the girl whose brother was missing) wouldn't be that surprised if she got Called...
Anyway, I hope work doesn't kill you. :)
Date: 2006-11-13 07:18 pm (UTC)Sorry about your nose.
That idea sounds interesting. Yeah, at this point, Haley wouldn't be much surprised at all :)
Date: 2006-11-13 07:18 pm (UTC)But yeah, when it comes to evil, those two are of a similar mind (i.e. kill the bastards dead). They both enjoy the hunt, are both unnervingly good at killing things, and they love guns.
I just had a scary thought, and I want to assure everyone that in no way will this story be John/Edward. *Goes off to bleach brain*
Splendid twistyness, splendid set up. I just... how do you do this? Every single time? I mean, honestly... every one of your crossovers have me hooked. It's just.. hm. Evil... yes, must be evil.
Date: 2006-11-13 07:36 pm (UTC)I don't know how I do it. When I'm thinking up crossovers, I tend to iron it out until the idea is almost too obvious. Of *course* Angel and Ellen could know each other. Of *course* mini!Jack could end up in St. Louis in Richard Zeeman's class. Etc.
I think part of it is, too, that I don't go for the camp or the schlock. I write this stuff straight and with bluster. It's like a rule I have: If you speak with enough conviction, people won't think you're bullshitting.
Stay tuned for more :)
Date: 2006-11-16 05:50 pm (UTC)Now the question is, until John can figure out things, will he go the route of amnesia while there. 'Cause whatever Peter did to protect Becca, you gotta figure head injuries were probably prominent. So that makes it plausible for any sort of 'amnesia' to occur. XD
Also, when the doctor says it's not possible for Peter to wake-up and then he does, that's gotta raise Edwards 'mystic feelers' there.
I wonder how John will handle being a teenager again. XD
no subject
Date: 2006-11-16 10:31 pm (UTC)The head injury is a good guess. Yes, Peter was braindead for a while (three days -- interesting number y/n?) so there is that route that John can go. But it'll be more interesting than that :D
I wonder how John will handle being a teenager again
Probably with violence. He seems to do that a lot :D
