Summary: Sam wasn't the first of his family.

Spoilers: Huge spoilers for Supernatural up to 2x21 "All Hell Breaks Loose" (May 10th's show).
Why: In 'All Hell Breaks Loose', Mr. Demon shows Sam a version of Nov. 02, 1983, in which Mary comes into the nursery and recognized the Yellow-Eyed Demon. I had to deal with that issue because seriously, it was too good to leave alone.

Mary was the one that got away.
He never figured out how, but by the time the dust settled, with the best and brightest of her generation lying dead on the ground, Mary was gone. He later learned she made it out of Cold Oak, bleeding and hysterical, but alive.
She broke the mold, broke through His plans, found a life outside what He wanted.
Anyone to make it this far deserved His special attention, so He watched. He saw John, and Dean, but they weren’t right.
He waited until the time was right.
Then he went for Sam, the same way he went for Mary, a baptism in blood and silent whispers in the nursery.
But Mary woke for him, came to him, recognizing him in the dark.
"You!"
Once, it had been about her, her potential hiding steel and power and a determination that could have moved mountains.
Now, it was all about this boy, who was more than Mary had ever been... truly, he could be the one.
But that meant that Mary had to die.
He felt no sympathy as Mary burned.
She'd had her chance to be His chosen one.
Now, he'd take her son.
