Cry Little Children
A Supernatural/Stargate Atlantis crossover
by [livejournal.com profile] mhalachaiswords

Summary: John Sheppard doesn't talk about his past. That doesn't mean he doesn't remember each and every moment.
Disclaimer: Supernatural belongs to the CW and Kripke. Stargate Atlantis belongs to MGM/UA, Gekko Productions et al. No profit has been made from this fic, and the only benefit to me is personal satisfaction and the creative process.
Rating: PG for content
Words: 660
Spoilers: A tiny spoiler from the first episode of Supernatural 2x01. Set in the SGA universe.
Note: Not really sure where this came from. Just obsessively re-watching SPN and *bam* a plot bunny. I had to write this to get it out of my system, so I can continue working on Balancing Act 5. In this story, I figured that Sammy wasn't the first generation of the children.

~~~~~~
"This is a stupid game."
Ronon snorted. "Isn't my fault McKay got us trapped in here."
"No, but it will be your fault if we use up all the air because you won't stop talking," Rodney snapped, poking away at his datapad.
Teyla rolled her eyes while Major Lorne let his head fall back, banging against the wall. "Like I said, stupid game."
John sighed. Only Lorne would be brave enough to slam his CO's choice of time-wasting games. Or, John conceded, maybe it really was oxygen deprivation. Being stuck in a small Atlantis room with Ronon, Teyla, Lorne and Rodney was enough to make anyone a little light-headed.
Ronon threw the makeshift leather ball at Lorne. "What's the one food you'd eat whenever you get the chance?" he asked Lorne.
Lorne flashed a grin at the taller man. "No contest. My mom's apple pie."
Rodney muttered something about Captain America propaganda in the Pegasus Galaxy, while Teyla furrowed her brow. "I have had apples, but never in pie form. Are they good?" she asked.
"Oh, it's the best. Tell you what. Next time they bring apples on a resupply run, I'll make us all a pie." Lorne's grin changed slightly when he looked at Teyla, just a little different, but it made John raise an eyebrow. Flirting with Teyla? When everyone on Atlantis knew that Teyla had the hots for Lt. What's-his-name? John knew Lorne could be reckless at times, but this was downright dangerous.
Teyla, however, smiled back. "That would be a most welcome treat."
Ronon shook his head, staring pointedly at the leather ball in Lorne's hand.
"Right." Lorne threw the ball at John. The warm leather slapped into John's hand, stinging more than it should have. Maybe that should have warned him. "What's your first memory?"
John's fingers stilled on the leather.
He'd always been able to remember everything. No matter how far back he pushed, he could always find something. Scraped knees, boring undercooked suppers from a distant father, all of it. It went all the way back to a time when he must have just been a tiny baby, to that very first memory, the only memory he had of his mother.
It was a series of broken moments, really.
A shadow standing over him in his crib.
Mom, screaming.
Mom, on the ceiling. Bleeding.
Mom on fire on the ceiling.
Something dark, reaching for him.
Then nothing.
John swallowed hard, past the knot of icy pain in his chest. "Kissing Becky Simmons on the cheek, first grade," he lied. For the first time in his life, he lied to his team, and he did it with a smile.
Teyla was staring at him. Did she know he was lying? Did she suspect that he woke up some nights, head full of terror and evil and the sinking suspicion that he was the one who burned his mother, was the reason she died screaming?
No, she couldn't know. No one knew, especially not in Pegasus, a galaxy away from that life he'd left behind.
John snapped the leather ball across the room at Ronon. "Would you rather go through a full medical with Beckett or get chewed out by Elizabeth?"
As Ronon tried to figure out a way to answer the question, John let his head fall back to rest against his little section of wall.
All this talk of memories dragged up parts of his past he wished he could forget. The fire, the nagging sensation that evil lurked around corner.
Waiting for him.
John rubbed his fingers against his pant leg, listening to the normal sounds of Rodney muttering, Ronon's deep rumble, Teyla's light voice dancing over her words. He often wondered what was good and evil in this galaxy. Most days, he wasn't sure about the evil, but on days like today, he knew what was good.
He just hoped that the evil side of things wasn't going to come back one day to haunt them all.
SPN commentary: [livejournal.com profile] angstslashhope has amazing meta on the shirt Dean's wearing in 2x04. It's a charming tale of exactly how fucking messed up Dean is over Daddy's death. It's ZOMG heartbreaking, + photographic evidence.
Eep. Creepy, feelbad fic.
On another note, how fucked up is that link? Muchly!
From: [identity profile] mhalachaiswords.livejournal.com
? Did I break the link? Things look fine on this end. Or, if you mean the content, then hella yeah. Poor Dean. He needs some severe therapy.
And this fic... I dunno. I think I have to tourture John Sheppard at every turn, and this was the easiest way for me to cross SGA and SPN. Poor boys with burning mothers on ceilings.
*looks at previous parargraph* You know, the SPN fandom has me writing paragraphs that would have been very odd only three months ago.
The link itself is fine. The information it leads to is not fine. The information it leads to is fucked up and scarring.
You do like the John torture; I have noticed that.
John doesn't need me to torture him. He has a crack team of writers over at the studios to do that for him.
And Dean's the same way. They do love to fuck these boys up.
Well of course they do. They're just so pretty when they suffer.
YAY! John!torture!
This was pretty awesome.
Thanks. I like that we know nothing about John's background. Makes crossover so easy. He can be anyone from Harry Potter to Lawrence Olivier's long-lost son :D
You never fail to wring, at the very least, the misties from me. Knowing this, I still read everything you write. Yes, I'm a glutton. And I know your not sorry ;)
From: [identity profile] mhalachaiswords.livejournal.com
I'm not sorry at all. In fact, I like that I cam make people cry :P
Glad you liked it.
oh awesome fic. love the idea of sammy as john
From: [identity profile] mhalachaiswords.livejournal.com
Was that how it came across? I meant that John was one of the kids like Sammy (we know are at least a few) but that's something that's come up in the last few shows. He's like Sammy, true. Both have crazy hair and they need a sandwitch or two :)
Oh John. *wibble* runawy to another galaxy and see if the evil doesn't follow. Wonder if he has any powers.
From: [identity profile] mhalachaiswords.livejournal.com
John does seem to have certain talents (not only for getting his ass out of trouble) that can't be explained. Are the due to the Ancient gene? or to something a little more... sinister? *twirls evil moustache*
Date: 2006-10-24 07:47 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] ranlynn.livejournal.com
Actually the ATA gene could explain just why Sam & the other 'children' like him have those abilities.
If you want to stretch it even further the SPN 'demons' could be ascended or partialy ascended 'rogue' Ancients or Ori.
Now there's a very interesting concept... Hmm... *feeds plotbunnies*
Wow on the fic. Just. Oh man... *woobies a little* It doesn't take much provocation for me to be wanting to hug any of these people, but that? Ouch. And *g* anything with Lorne in it? Gets my double thumbs up... now if Radek was there too? It'd be the best fic EVER! :)
And the meta? OMFG. That's just... .... *wibbles a whole lot*
And ditto for Dean. That shirt meta killed me ded. Poor Dean.
It's just one of those ideas, ya know? I'm probably not going to go anywhere with it, but still. Fun times.
I gave this one a whirl, but I really don't know enough about either series to feel the impact of this one. The only exposure I have to these two series are the fics you write, and I just don't have enough emotional connection to go on. That's not meant to be a negative thing, really, no fault of yours. I just like to leave comments to everything I read.
I wish I could get into this habit. As it stands, I have five Jinni fics to comment on (because she's amazing). I just get so backlogged :D
What I mean is, thanks so much for commenting. It means so much.
Well, I just want authors I read to feel appreciated, even if I don't have any pointed insight about the fic in question.
BTW, small progress was made on the next chapter of Gathering Gloom. You up for a beta in the next few days?
Date: 2006-10-23 06:14 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] mhalachaiswords.livejournal.com
Yup, up for a beta! Send it my way. I've got writing and watercolours class in the evenings these days, but I'll get to it as soon as I get it.
Sorry I didn't comment on this before! *ducks mud ball* Job hunting and college are hell.
Anywhoodle, I am not familiar with Supernatural but this is really good. I especially like Rodney's snark and the mind numbing boredom induced 'get to know you' game. ^__^
Job hunting and college are hell.
I so totally hear you.
Glad you enjoyed. I figured that really, it's not a SPN story without Rodny Snark.
And I've played that game, in fits of utter despair. Luckily, it's been a few years :P
*squees* I draw hearts around this fic. I really do <3
Two of my fav shows... there must be more!
At this point, there is no more. But maybe one day, that's all I can say. Sometimes, these things run away with me.
Yeah, I do like to torture Johnny. It's just so easy. But yeah, I can't see the demon only having started on the kid thing 22 years ago.
Plus crossovers are just cool.
Love this fic, perfectly in character and a crossover at the same time. And what a concept for John to be one of the Special Children... I don't suppose there's more of this?
I'm glad you liked it :) There is no more of this at the moment, but I have been playing with the "'rogue' Ancients" idea :) It's a fun one, that's for sure.
