As I am sure you can gather, from your knowledge of my feelings for ma petite, I would not have allowed her death when it was in my power to prevent it. Luckily, Richard and I came to an understanding while she lay unconscious. Neither of us would stand to lose her. And only a fraction of that is the potential damage to those under our protection, how those around us would swoop in if we were damages by Anita's death. As much as he wishes to deny himself, Richard is still in love with her, and she with him.

But as she lay in that bed, so tiny and frail as she slept, it was hard to remember all of my lofty goals. All I saw was the woman I loved, injured.

I would walk through hell for this woman, would suffer anything to keep her safe. Even if that meant an eternity of her hating me.

Oh, so much! Luckily, Ron was still in London with the twins, and I owled them using Hedwig, who Ron lent to me because Harry was in America. I asked Ron for help, maybe that he could ask his mother or father or maybe even Bill on where to look. Professor Lupin-- I mean, Remus, is still out of touch recovering from the moon. I'm not sure I want to ask Professor Snape, not yet. I've asked about yearbooks, maybe even reports from the Daily Prophet. Oh! I should owl Luna and see if her father has any resources! If Nigel Spencer was a Death Eater (although we really need to keep in mind that not all Slytherins were Death Eaters, and vice versa) then perhaps any member of the Order might know.

Actually, since only four hours have elapsed since I received Harry’s telephone call, I haven't done much. But I've drawn up a research plan. I should have an answer in couple of days for Harry.

I wonder why he wouldn't tell me why he needed this information, though. 'Maybe I should use my parents computer and see whose phone number he gave me...

*shrugs* Yes, we did, thank you for asking. Actually, Rafael was most adamant about it. I think it had something to do with what he told me about his ex-wife and his son.

Not that it was a big deal or anything. I wasn't in any shape for acrobatics or anything, so it all worked out okay. Well, in and out and in and out... Oh, I'm in so much trouble with this guy. Why is my history so screwed up? And Dawn's going to just kill me if she finds out. After all that time of me telling her that jumping into bed on the first date leads to heartache and woe and vampires in daylight?

What? Oh, fuck. I thought about that, you know, back when Katie and Andy both had the flu and I had to take care of Tegan, when she was just a few months old. I mean, I tried to think about it. But Tegan only weighed fourteen pounds. The weight of two guns. And she was all pink and squirmy and she couldn't roll over. She didn't even have any teeth.

It was one thing to read about it, back in college. The Slayers. Then I met Enid, but she was fourteen years old and had been slaying for months. I tried to picture Tegan killing vampires, but all I could think of were vampires tearing her baby throat out.

It worries me, how much like Anita I see Tegan becoming. Not the dark hair, not the shortness. It's the stubbornness. That streak that lets Anita point a shotgun at a vampire she knows and pull the trigger... I'm starting to see it in Tegan.

I don’t think anything else has scared me as much as that realization.
