Whatever Happened To Torchwood Four?
A Torchwood crossover with a mystery fandom! (but if you read this LJ, you like the fandom)(no, it's not Gilmore Girls)(God how weird would that be?) with Stargate Atlantis
by [livejournal.com profile] mhalachaiswords

Summary: "Torchwood Four's gone missing but we'll find it some day." But where?
Disclaimer: Russell T. Davis and the BBC own it all. Except the crossover fandom, but that's not owned by me either.
Rating: PG
Setting/Spoilers: No real spoilers for Torchwood, except the beginning of the series.
Characters: Four OCs masquerading as Torchwood Four. Trust me. Oh, and it's all about Captain Jack.
Words: 900, give or take
Notes: I hate writing OCs in anything under 1000 words because the introductions are so forced. Anyway, I like my Torchwood Four. I digress. In the Torchwood pilot, Jack Harkness said something like...

~~~~~~~~~~
"We have to go back."
"We canna go back!"
"And even if we did go back--"
Sarah Slack, head of Torchwood Four, slammed her hand down on the table. "Enough!" Her voice echoed around the small enclosed room. "That is enough!"
William Christopher, computer expert, and Martin Ellison, alien weapons expert, didn't back down from their confrontation, but they did at least stop screaming.
Nafeesa Abdul Qadir, Torchwood Four's xenobiologist, tapped the computer screen upon which was displayed the list of the dead from the Battle of Canary Wharf. "There's nothing we can do now by going home," she said distantly. "The battle is over. Torchwood One is dead--"
"And we were here doing this!" Martin interrupted. "We should have been in England, standing our ground for--"
"For what?" Sarah interrupted. "For Queen and country? What good would it have served to die like Torchwood One?"
"Not all of them," William pointed out. "Their coffee boy lived."
"Ianto Jones?" Nafeesa frowned, scrolling down the message. "I met him once, before we left. What happened to him?"
Martin stalked over to the window. "He was relocated. To Cardiff."
Nafeesa raised her eyebrows. "To Torchwood Three? You'd think having everyone on his team killed might make him take the easy way out, with Retcon."
"And you'd want to forget us, if anything ever happened."
The colour drained from Nafeesa's face, but before William could jump to her defense again, Sarah stood up.
"Settle, children." Her cold tone shut them all up as no threat could. "We are not going home. We have work to do here, knowledge to be gained that can be used to protect Earth."
Martin leaned against the wall, vibrating with anger at the enforced inaction. "Are you even thinking? With Torchwood One gone, and Torchwood Two better off left to the sheep, you know who's the last step of defense for humanity on Earth?" He slapped the window. "Captain Jack Fucking Harkness!"
"And you would know," Nafeesa muttered under her breath. Martin pushed off the wall and was halfway across the room when Sarah got in his way and physically shoved him back.
"Stop it!" she shouted. "You are a Captain in Her Majesty's Royal Air Force! Show some restraint!"
Martin was taller than Sarah by almost a foot, but he was the first to look away.
"I'm sorry about Rajesh Singh," Sarah said after a minute. "I know he was your friend. But he, like every single member of Torchwood, knew the risks."
"We should go back," Martin said yet again, but a hint of defeat had crept into his voice. "I don't know if the world can stand being saved by Jack Harkness and his band of miscreants."
"Don't call them that," Sarah said, hiding a smile. Martin hated it when anyone laughed at him.
"It's true," William said. He had gone back to work on his laptop, as if the matter was settled. In his mind, it probably was. "Anyone who'd take a job like this has to be soft in the head."
"I'll drink to that." Nafeesa closed her laptop. "What time is it?"
"Twenty-five hundred hours," William supplied.
"Shit," Nafeesa muttered. "There are so many things I hate about this galaxy, and thirteen o'clock takes the cake."
William's earpiece beeped. The resultant squawk could be heard across the room. Rolling his eyes, he grabbed his computer and stood. "I'll be right there." He turned the earpiece off. "Rodney McKay's on a rampage. I have to get back to the lab."
Sarah nodded. "Erase all records of the messages from Earth and don't compose any return messages," she instructed. William and Nafeesa nodded, used to her orders after two years on Atlantis and five years with Torchwood Four. "Oh with you."
That left Sarah alone in the room with Martin. He crossed his arms over his chest. Waiting.
"Fine, what?" she asked.
"You don't really believe that Harkness is the best choice to head Torchwood Three, do you?"
"Doesn't matter what I think," Sarah reminded him. "The man's got more lives than a room full of cats, and he has kept Cardiff quiet for the most part, in spite of that bloody Rift. We're better suited here."
"Where no one knows what we are."
"We're all in this together," Sarah said. "Humanity against the Wraith. They cannot get back to Earth. It would make the Battle of Canary Wharf look like a walk in the park."
"So we go out again pretending that we are not what we appear."
"Martin--"
He held up his hands. "Fine. We remain in Atlantis, while the fate of Earth rests in the hands of a bisexual charlatan with a penchant for period military dress, and his minions."
"Now you've got it." Sarah gathered up her paperwork. "Off to bed with you."
He executed a sarcastic salute. "Ma'am."
She should have let it go, but curiosity got the better of her before Martin had cleared the door. "Just what did happen between you and Jack Harkness, anyway?"
"Don't want to talk about it."
"Martin--"
"Don't ask!"
"Well well," Sarah said to herself. "That man certainly does get around."
It occurred to her, as she headed back to the Atlantis control room, what it might be like to have Jack Harkness in Atlantis.
The Pegasus Galaxy might not survive.
Yes, I wrote Torchwood/Stargate Atlantis. Crossovers are the gift that keep on giving.
he he!
Though I suspect Ianto was more than the coffee boy at Torchwood One - I can't see a mere coffee boy being able to do what he did. (Trying to be opaque in case you haven't seen all of season 1)
I like your explanation on where Torchwood Four went. It makes perfect sense to me!
I have a x-over fic in mind with Ianto being sent to the SGC to debrief them on Torchwood. I"ll get around to writing it one of these days.
Oh, I indeed know that Ianto is a man of many skills :D The comment up above was Torchwood Four not knowing exactly what the other groups do. (For example, I'm still not sure what it is that Gwen does, and I've seen all Torchwood episodes to date)
I like that idea for a fic! I had an idea to continue this, using everyone's favourite plot device -- the Rift! I think that Gwen v. Wraith would crack me up. Don't get me wrong, I like her and all that, but it'd still be a riot.
Ah Gwen... I wish for consistency and logic for her character. I would love her character if only it made sense! I just have a lot of trouble getting behind her - and I've tried... oh gods how I've tried! I'm hoping Season 2 will even her out. Though, from the one episode I've seen in season 2, I'm still scratching my head.
The thing about Gwen is that no matter how annoyingly the character is written, the actress hits her out of the park. I'm thinking of the reaction shots in last season's finale. If she were badly acted in addition to being badly written, I could write her off. And yet...
True... the problem is that the bad writing is sometimes hard to overcome. One of my biggest problems with her is that she is supposed to be the face of humanity for the team and have that normal life outside the Hub, yet she's shagging Owen and would probably love to do the same to Jack. And yet, she won't let Rhys go... she almost destroys the world to save Rhys, and then abandons him for three days while sitting vigil for Jack. I find it difficult to like her, and easy to mock her.
I for one like Gwen. She's a real character struggling with all the craziness in her life. She went to Owen for that brief time out of shock, stress, and the need for comfort. Rhys also is a source of comfort for her - he's normal, and there, no matter what she does. Personally, Rhys is the most unbelievable character in the whole show - if I was dating Gwen, I would've dumped her long ago! As for Jack, okay - who doesn't want to shag Jack? It's part of his charm.
"Captain Jack Fucking Harkness!"
Never has a sentence been more squeefully true :)
I was worried for a minute they'd turrn out to be based in Sunnydale. Nice idea!
Nah, Sunnydale's been done to death. It'd be too easy (and I don't like easy). And then there'd be the old Watcher confusion... I like this one better :)
lol...I can just picture Jack standing in the middle of the gateroom, hands on his hips looking around with one of his grins. Meanwhile Owen and Rodney are having a Snark attack, Tosh is oooing and awing over the alient tech and Gwen is trying to explian to Elizabeth/Sam why the hell they are there without causing too much diplomatic problems. Ianto is somewhere, making coffee because the man has a six sense when it comes to caffinated beverages and even Rodney would be happy to have him there.
lol..yep:)
I bet the SGC would be interested in Ret-Con. Would probably help with the times the Gould messed up their "No one knows but us for now" plan.
Great now I have Torchwood/Atlantis scenes running through my head.
You feed my crossover addiction, you do.
Dudette... ;) I've already found myself writing Batman/Torchwood crack!fic. Torchwood/Atantis is comparatively sane by contrast.
And you should do it anyway. :D
I have one Harry Potter/Stargate Atlantis/Stargate SG-1/Grey's Anatomy/CSI: Miami/Moulin Rouge/... crossover fic. Well...not so much a fic but short segments of me playing around in all those fandoms.
I'm still trying to work on that SGA/Gilmore Girls crossover where John is a Gilmore. But he is being stubborn and won't help me figure out how to start it off.
"I am sorry, Commander Shepard," said Thor, looking as embarassed as a little grey alien computer programmed hologram could. "It appears this Ancient transporter was programmed to seek out your nearest genetic match from Earth, rather than return you back."
Lorelai Gilmore raised an eyebrow. "Excuse me, but what the hell just happened?"
"My apologies to your sibling," Thor continued, not noticing the stunned looks around him.
Another incredibly creative crossover. i always have trouble figuring out how to use Atlantis in crosses but you are a genius at it.
Jack harkness in atlantis - now that I'd love to see.
I hope series 2 is better becasue I wanted to love Torchwood but so far that feeling eludes me.
Date: 2008-01-23 08:04 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] mhalachaiswords.livejournal.com
The thing about Atlantis is that it's so over the top in wackinesses, but played straight, that it is delightful for crossovers. If you can figure out a way to get them there in the first place.
Jack harkness in atlantis
Oh, the fun. Jack v. McKay. Awesome fun times.
We'll see how the second round of Torchwood goes. I think Jack's going to lighten up a little, so that will be good.
