A polite rant to the makers of the Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire movie:

Okay, first the promo image that started all of this:

emphasis added

Now, the rant. Yes, we all know that dearest Tom was named for his muggle father, with his grandfather's name as his middle name. In HBP we learned that "Morvolo" was his maternal (wizarding) grandfather's name. When the setmakers were making the movie, they could not have known what would be in HBP.

However.

There's an author out there, by the name of J.K. Rowling. I wish someone on set had called her up and said, "Jo, we're making the tombstones for the graveyard scene. What's Tom Riddle's father's middle name? Because it can't be 'Morvolo,' because that's his grandfather's name!"

And JKR would say, "Glad you called! No, Morvolo is not the middle name of Voldemort's father at all!"

*grumble* The movie isn't even out until December and already I'm ranting.

ETA to rant: According to my math from the tombstone, Voldemort's father was 28 when he was killed? That makes him ELEVEN when he sired his son. RAR!

They really should've researched it before they made the tombstone. *shakes head* Kind of makes you wonder what else was changed.

Well, they had to cut down teh biggest book EVAR to the movie... Plus, that icky pink dress on Hermione. Like, ew. :)

I know. I know they had to cut stuff and tweak stuff to fit the main storyline in, buyt still. Why isn't she wearing periwinkle blue? That was an unnecessary change.

I'm sure there's some sort of reason, but IMO, Emma Watson looks better in cool colours like green and blue. Maybe the pink was to make her look more "girly" (which, as a girl, I object to)

My one thing about this one film is that I wish the boys had been barbered before the film. They have crazy hippy hair :P

lol They really do. I liked Dan Radcliffe's hair in the 3rd movie, much nicer.

Actually, I think the Thomas Riddle at the top was his father. Did the muggles who buried the old man think they were burying him too? Certainly he would have wanted Thomas Marvolo Riddle to disappear, before his appearance as Lord Voldemort.

In GoF, the Riddles killed were Sr. (the one who's about 60 on the tombstone), Mother Riddle, and their young son Tom. But he's not that young. And no one knew about Voldie Tom. His mother died at birth and he never met his father.

To all intents and purposes, Tom Riddle who later became Voldemort never knew his family, except to kill them.

...I think my icon says it all. What were they thinking?

Maybe it will be explained in the film, and people like me with WAAAY too much time on their hands will walk out satisfied. Maybe.

I really really hate what the 2nd director is doing to the movies... I really really wished the other guy had stayed.

Mike Newell is new to the franchise... the guy who did POA is out. Waaay out. Chris Columbus, the first guy, I liked. POA had better imagery, IMO, but they left out SO much necessary information to the whole series that plot-wise it's a bit of a write-off. Again, IMO.

Well, the headstone is really a small thing. Let's pray overall that the movie is good. Perhaps they will computer edit it out. They could do that without much trouble.
