A extra shiny review of Serenity by Orson Scott Card (no spoilers). Review!

He makes a very good point in his essay -- the movie has been out and around for months, now, and no one's ruining the ending. No one. All I keep hearing is OMG SO GOOD. Even today, everyone on my flist is very nicely putting all comments behind an LJ cut. I love you all.

I get to see the movie this evening, so I'm trying very hard not to click on those links! (So please don't tell me what's in the movie plz thanx)

PS look at my shiny Saffron icon!

I'm sure I'll be flailing along with the best of them in six hours :D If only I can get this damned chapter done before then!

That is a gorram shiny review (and icon, too).

I've been avoiding reviews cos I don't trust the writers not to spoil things, so thanks for pointing out this happily non-spoilery one.

Seeing Serenity tomorrow! *bounce*

You're quite welcome. I too have been leery about reading reviews, so was happy when a friend of mine linked me to it.

Yay! I have 90 minutes left, myself. Which reminds me, I should be getting on my way.

Here's another review (http://www.salon.com/ent/movies/review/2005/09/30/serenity/index.html), and while it mentions new characters, it's fairly non-spoilery.

I thought his review was dead-on accurate. In every way. I hope you loved it!

Love... I'm still a little stunned. I'll post a comment on it tomorrow when I've had a chance to calm the hell down.

And I'm also kicking myself over the already written chapter 6 of that fic of mine. Just... well, you'll see when I post it. Jeepers.

That review was spot on- particularly related to the spoiling and the language. The linguistic shifts that Joss pulled off was the thing that completely convinced me that these people were *real*. No one stumbled over the strange phrasing, it just was how they spoke. No jolting out of it, they pulled it off completely. I was so very, very impressed.

The mix of "old" language with conventional speaking made it very understandable, no matter how odd it was, I think. I was never at a loss to understand what they had just said.

And after my last little fic exercise, I find myself thinking in Mal-speak. Ack.

Thank you for giving this link.
I haven't seen Firefly. I haven't even read a piece of fanfiction about it (whitch is rather strange if I think about it, because there are many shows I haven't seen but still read fanfiction about). But after reading this review I want to see Serenity. And I want to see Firefly too. But I think I'll start with fanfics first (they are easiest to come by).

PS Do you know any fanfics about Firefly I should read? That would help me get the sense of the series and characters?

Not sure about the firefly fics. I'm very new to this fandom.

If you have the chance, see the firefly series first, then the film. it all makes better sense that way, and the movie is more impactful
