"Can I keep it?"

"No."

Dawn glared up at the weary werewolf. "Why not?" she asked.

Remus pushed back his greying hair. "Because werewolves do not have pets," he said patiently. "Especially not puppies. There are.... issues."

Dawn rolled her eyes and bounced to her feet, squirming puppy in her hands. "You used to say the same thing about werewolves having younger girlfriends, too," she reminded him. "And yet, here were are."

"Indeed." Remus eyed the puppy, askance. "Why do you need a pet?"

Dawn stroked the puppy's head, feeling her heart melt as it let out little puppy barks of ecstasy. "It's a vampire watchdog," she said. Remus looked unconvinced. "Well, it could be." She held out the puppy. "Make friends, because it's coming home with us," she ordered.

Carefully, so as not to alarm the creature, Remus stretched out his hand for the puppy to sniff. After a moment of initial cowering, the puppy sniffed Remus's fingers furiously, then let out a happy bark.

Dawn grinned, so happy. She'd always wanted a puppy, and now she had one. Well, two.

"I can't wait until you teach the puppy to play catch."

"Dawn. Stop."

Dawn likes Remus because she can't resist a British accent. (And he reminds her of Rupert Giles, on whom she had a bit of a crush. Well, that's my theory, anyway.)
