Anita Blake movie?

So, apparently at the Wolf Howl last night, LKH told the audience that everything's signed and on the go to make a movie out of Guilty Pleasures.

I, um... Not quite sure what to think of that. Okay.

Me too. This universe is wonderful on paper [well, with a few acknowledged flaws] but translating that level of dark violence to the screen could either come across as pretentious!goth or cheap!tacky. In real life, men with long flowing hair and lavender eyes don't exist except on romance novel covers. I'd hate to see it turned into a filmed soft core porn disaster with fake blood. Ugh.

You've hit the nail on the head. I know that in the past, LKH has said she didn't want to make a movie of the books unless she had more control or something, but I'm really not sure how this whole thing could possible come across on screen without looking, as you say, tacky if followed too closely to the books. Sure, one could cut the hair on teh guys and such (esp. in the earlier books)... I guess my thing is, I like the books and don't want to see them wrecked by a bad movie.

i see where you are coming from and i agree. however, to play devil's advocate, they are doing a really good job at dark, moody movies, lately. i think they will have to be very, very careful when it comes to later in the books, but if they know what's good for them, they can pull it off. it will depend a lot on directiorial choices and casting, very, very much on casting. if they pick the wrong anita, it goes to hell in a hand basket. if they pikc anyone wrong... now, i only have one actor in mind for any part, only one that i insist upon...

anyways, back to what i was saying. i think they won't be able to go with perfect descriptions of actors. how many guys are really 5'3" like jason? but, as far as appearance... i think, if i were designing the look of the characters, that, especially for someone exotic like Nathaniel, Asher, or... hell, even Gabriel, you would need to be very careful not to make them technocolored, then, when you have a human base, add an element or the unreal, of feralness, of the supernatural. There are guys with auburn hair and lavender eyes, but it's the cock of the hed, the way the hair falls over the eyes, the way nathaniel's hair moves around him that adds that creeping feel of unrealness.

i'm talking to much. anyways, i hope they are very, very careful.

That's an excellent way to put it. Yeah, casting can make or break this movie.
