When Edward flicked a button on top of the contraption, then took off running, Anita didn't wait. She ran after him as fast as her legs could carry her.

They'd barely ducked behind a thick concrete wall when there was an explosion, then dead silence. Cautiously, Anita uncovered her head and glared at Edward.

"What the fuck was that?" she hissed.

He gave her a look. "Claymore," he whispered.

As Edward peeked out around the corner to see if the explosive had done its work, he heard Anita ask curious in spite of herself, "Where'd you get it?"

He smiled.

Edward. Heheheheh.

I would love to see that man go head-to-head with Mister Horcruces.

Yeah, Edward is the bomb. Sometimes, literally.

I would love to see that man go head-to-head with Mister Horcruces.
Are you talking about Voldemort or Harry?

Are you talking about Voldemort or Harry?

Voldie-kins, actually. Harry, he'd probably leave be -- especially once he found out that Harry was not only under Anita's protection, but Richard's as well (and I'm sure that Jean-Claude also would not be too happy if Edward tried to off The Boy Who Lived, since he knows how much it would hurt Anita).

Also, too, there is the consideration that Harry's really not that hard of a target to someone like Edward. A simple sniper rifle would finish the problem.

Now, Voldemort... that would be interesting *ahem*

We all love Edward. He's creepy, yet oh-so-facinating...

There's something in me that makes me wish we could see that final confrontation between Anita and Edward---when they finally find out who's better.

I have to admit I haven't read 'Incubus Dreams' but did Edward feature in it at all?

No, there was no Edward in ID. Sadly. Books with Edward are my fave (and yes, I'm one of those people who simply loved Obsidian Butterfly).

Me too! It, along with "Blue Moon", rate as the books I've read most often in this series! I have to admit I adored that view of domesticity that hit me in the face in "Obsidian Butterfly" and, of course, Edward wouldn't fall for a non-dysfunctional family. ^_^

It's interesting, how absolutely hated the books from OB onwards are. Granted, LKH does fall into a bit of a rut, but, well, she can't help it -- killing is killing after a while, and her characters are fated to do lots of it.

Well, I did enjoy 'Narcissus in Chains' but most definitely the negative reviews on 'Incubus Dreams' threw me off reading it. And I heard her new one may be just as bad.

Where on earth did you hear that? The first draft of the book got sent to her editor last week; no one's read it yet.

It was from someone who said that an excerpt has been put up at her website. My bad---I didn't confirm it.

You know, I'd actually managed to block those chapters out of my head. *sigh* Sorry for my snippiness.

Have you read those chapters? I hate to be critical, but to put up a teaser like that, and manage to avoid editing it (like forgetting some plot points for minor characters) is irksome for someone who edits copy for 40+ hours a week. I will still buy the book, because the points in that teaser aren't the plot, but still.

Of course, I was the same way with ID and the spelling mistakes.

Well, OB was Anita in an unfamiliar situation, while NiC onward introduced Micah and the ardeur, two things people seem to loathe. It took the series in a whole new direction. I'm actually quite happy about it; I like Micah, and Anita's continued growth as a person (with said growth goaded by the ardeur). I just didn't think I could stand anymore "woe is me" from Anita. She was stagnating.

As for falling into a rut... I just re-read the early chapters of Inevitable. Oh, my poor abuse of the English language. Not that bad, I just tend to be overly critical and lazy at the same time. Bad combo.

Heck, I've grown since chapter 29. Oh, Anita and Dumbledore. *shakes head*

This is a fantastic, marvelous, machiavellian story. What a devious, devilish, humorous author you are! This is MHALACHAI! This is the type of story for which we pine.

and concerning LKH's writing: I love all her books, even though it got a bit tedious to read her introduction of characters nine times over. She has a solid type of writing and solid grasp of humor that's carried her though all of her books thus far.
-I read an excerpt for Micah in the back of the paperback ID, and it sounds fairly interesting.
-I can't say I'm a fan of her writing in the Merry Gentry series though...Those books were far too repetitive, in my opinion.

Thanks :)

I also like LHK's AB books (no, really? we hadn't figured that out) but am of the opinion that her editor needs to, you know, edit. Just because she's a NYTimes bestseller only means one should pay more attention to the grammer and misspellings. *ahem*

The MG books have a totally different feel to them, as instalments. LKH has the end all planned out, so I don't necessarily get the same sense of excitement out of them as I do the AB books.

Also, i'm super excited about the upcoming Micah book. Bring it on!

I did not know this. It adds a different dimension to it. The plot is interesting, extremely different and very involving, but it's just...that when I was reading the three books, it almost felt like I was reading the same story three times; I got the feeling that all three could have been combined into one book.

I'm just wondering...where do you find out all these interesting details? I read about a blog somewhere...?

Blog's at http://blog.laurellkhamilton.org/

She mentioned a while ago that Merry Gentry has an ending, with a set # of books. Anita Blake, not so much :)

I just went to the blog...you know, to take a peek. And what do I find? The most brilliant book writing production office I've ever seen. Did you see all those post-its, and the closet of references 'we're not old enough to see?' And she calls the door 'The gate of dogs and hot tea!' This has brightened my day. Thanks!

Yeah. I use a white board for my own writing, as opposed to post-its, but I totally understand why she uses those. Otherwise, how can one get the story straight?

A claymore is an antipersonnel mine, full name M18A1 Claymore Antipersonnel Mine. You can read about them here on Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M18A1_Claymore_Antipersonnel_Mine).
