~~*~~
Dawn walked through the club, letting the heavy music wash over her as she looked for Gwen, her new next-door neighbour. Gwen had suggested that Dawn swing by this club, Danse Macabre, and they could hang out with some of Gwen's friends. Dawn was all about that, seeing as how the only people she'd met in St. Louis in the past month, other than Gwen, had been the police and some vampires. Especially that really annoying one...
Not watching where she was going, Dawn walked squarely into someone. Glancing up, her heart sank. Just the person she was hoping to avoid.
"Dawn."
"Damian." She matched his tone, all snark and sarcasm.
He let his bright green eyes slide down her body, taking in her tight blouse and short skirt. Dawn narrowed her eyes at him. "And what brings you to a place filled with such... unnatural creatures?" Damian asked when his eyes finally returned to her face.
Heat rushed to Dawn's cheeks, and she didn't know why. She was angry, she told herself. Her reaction had to be anger. "Not that it's any of your damned business, but Gwen invited me out," she snapped, stepping so close to Damian that she could feel the coolness of his body, an island of relief in the hot, pulsating club. "Just because you're Anita's vampire doesn't mean you get to hassle me, so back off!"
Damian looked at her for a long moment, his features blank of any expression, then took a step back. "As you wish," he said, biting off every syllable, before whirling and vanishing into the crowd.
He was so frustrating! Dawn thought, still staring at the spot Damian had just vacated. No matter what he did, Dawn always walked away from their meetings with a prickling sense of annoyance, and she couldn't figure out why.
Letting out a small growl, Dawn stalked off into the club to find Gwen.
From the risers above, two sets of eyes followed her progress. "This is never going to work," Jason lamented.
"Yes, it will," Nathaniel reassured him. "All they need is a bit of time to realize that they like each other."
"They've been at each other's throats since Dawn hit Damian with her car outside of Anita's office, her first day here," Jason reminded Nathaniel.
Nathaniel shook his head. "That was an accident. Dawn's trying to not like Damian. She'll get over it."
"We don't even know if Damian likes her," Jason said.
Nathaniel gave him a look. "Trust me, he likes her." The young wereleopard headed toward the stairs, Jason close behind. "If Dawn likes Damian, then Anita won't be worried about him anymore, and that will make her happy."
"And when Anita's happy, everyone's happy," Jason muttered. "I still think this is a bad idea."

Date: 2005-11-16 12:58 am (UTC)I absolutely loved reading this. Damien and Dawn...bring on the UST!
One grammar mistake noted:
They've been at each other's throats since Dawn hit Damian with her car Anita's office, her first day here.
-> is that outside, at, near, around or by the office.

Date: 2005-11-16 03:37 am (UTC)Jason's reluctant in the "Damian will rip my head off if he finds out I've been setting him up with Dawn" sort of way. Nate knows that Damian won't actually maim them. All in all, fun times.
