My monthly HP rambles. (Contains HBP discussion, FYI)

Yes, kids! It's time for Yet Another Horcrux Theory (YAHT).

Now, we've all heard them. Harry's a horcrux. His scar is a horcrux. His eyes (the colour of Aveda Kedavra... a coincidence? I think NOT!) are the horcrux.

Well, here's my crazy theory: Voldemort's wand is the horcrux.

See, it all makes sense. That Halloween night at Godric's Hollow, with both Lily's and James's deaths swirling around, Voldie goes in for the final kill (baby!Harry). He raises his wand, magic at the ready... but the magic is pushed back and Voldemort destroyed.

The wand was the only thing between Voldemort and Harry.

So far, JKR hasn't made any indication if a horcrux can be anything other than an inanimate object, but what we've seen (the diary, Gaunt's ring) would make it seem as though the thing must be inanimate. Indeed, Dumbledore theorized that Voldemort was questing to use Hogwarts founder objects, not Hogwarts' students. (That might have been to spare poor Harry the angst, however).

We've seen only inanimate objects as horcruxes (the diary, Gaunt's ring) and it would make sense to think that the thing must be inanimate. (It being risky to turn a living object into a horcrux, as per Dumbledore). So, yeah.

What do you think?

hmm...well, I think the wand idea has more merit than a lot of theories I've heard so far (a friend of mine is absolutely positive that Nagini is a horcrux). Whether or not it'll turn out to be the case I don't know...but really, is anyone else with me in thinking Voldemort was kind of stupid in choosing his horcrux objects so far? I mean, wouldn't they be a whole lot less likely to be discovered and destroyed if he chose, say, a bunch of random objects belonging to random people around the world? Seriously. Would an evil mastermind really be so stupid (or self important) to make his downfall so easy to figure out? I don't think so!

*ahem*
Okay, I'm done now.

I think it's been pretty firmly established that Voldemort, while evil, is no mastermind.

"Give my mortal enemy his wand so I have one final chance to exact my revenge!"
"Um, boss, we've already got him tied up and helpless."
"Silence! He has no chance of escaping ME! Give him back his one hope at escape!"

"I know! I'll have a child, who has never indicated any real animosity toward mudbloods or muggles outside of some juvenile whining, and have him construct an elaborate plot to get my minions into Hogwarts! None of the dozens of crafty adults at my service could do better!"

And so on.

JKR might not have, but the only authoritative figure we have talking about horcruxes and the ones Voldemort might have in the actual book is Dumbledore and he thinks that it's possible Nagini, the snake, might be one. Says it's risky to be turning someting alive into one, but he doesn't say or suggest that it's impossible.
Interesting to think it might be the wand though.

he said that about Nagini? Huh. Shows what I know. *is a bad fangirl*

Still, I like my wand theory. I think i'm on crack, but it's fun to theorize.

i read a fic once where voldemort's final horcrux was a sales slip from take out curry dated 1978.
personally, i think that is much more brilliant, but not so likely in jkr's world. the nagini theory seems pretty common though.
but i wonder, voldemort ak's harry and looses his corporeal form, right? so where did his wand go? into the ether with him? it must have, i suppose, or else it would have clattered to the floor of the nursery and been found.

*dies*

Another thing that made me believe it couldn't be Nagini: What happens to your chunk o' soul if that living creature dies? (Which leads back to the Horcrux!Harry theory).

Yeah, Peter was around and scammed Voldie's wand. What a rat.

I like my little theory. I have a suspicion that JRK will have that final horcrux be something no one's thought of, just to mess us all up hardcore. She seems to like doing that.

However personally, its gonna be a copy of play witch that's under voldies mattress. Yep. Even evil wizards need lovin :p.
*looks at sentence and pokes out eyes repeatedly.*
Harry can't be a horcrux... He's too feckin dumb. You'd think something with TWO souls, the essence of two people, the mind of someone, would be a bit smarter tho.
That would explain the voldie dumb theory:
Give him his wand.
Boss, you split yourself into seven pieces. SEVEN. Let some one else do the thinking.

Yah.
What if the final horcruz was Dumbledores glasses? Drake swiped em before he left? Or it could be severus' hair... its greasy and evil enough.

What was it that Xander said in that episode when Buffy and Spike start smooching under a spell? "Can I be blind too?"

Boss, you split yourself into seven pieces. SEVEN. Let some one else do the thinking.

But is it seven or eight? Are there seven Horcruxes, with the eighth piece in Voldie's head, or are there six + Voldie? I have no idea. But now I'm rambling.

Now I need to find that curry!Horcrux story...

I had a theory like that, somewhat before JKR ever put forth the idea of horcruxes. So, I think it's quite probable - or at least that it makes a great deal of sense. I'm not sure I'd bet large sums on book 7 actually going that way, but it would work if it did.

I agree that using the wand as a horcrux makes a lot of sense. After all, wouldn't it make sense to keep something that important somewhere you can keep an eye on it? And even if Voldemort is defeated, there's no guarantee his wand will be destroyed as well. It only takes one person loyal to him to getting to the wand before someone else does (as we've seen).

Yuppers.

My next question is, what do they do with old wands? When a wizard dies, do they snap the wand? Send it up in flames? Bury it with the body?

Maybe there's an old wand room at the Ministry. How morbid.

I agree that horcrux!Harry had to be an accident. What we'll probably see next book is Harrty going to Godric's Hollow and either finding that object that was to be the horcrux, or else getting an idea of where to look.

I also think it's just as likely at JKR is going to go, "Hey, guys, remember that Super Mysterious and Powerful Ancient Artefact that everyone in the wizarding world knows about

You mean like the Scythe in season 7 of Buffy? *cough*ihatedthatthing*cough*

the wand theory's as good a theory as any other decent one I've heard, but

Well, frankly, I'm not married to the idea ;P Also, I was going at it from the angle that it was a total accident.

But you're making me wondering. What WAS the object he planned to make into a horcrux at Godric's Hollow?

*goes off to think hard about this... i mean go back to work*

That has some interesting things, but the most interesting was.
Harry's wand contains one of Fawkes' feathers as its magical core, and red and gold sparks fly from the end of his wand the first time he waves it.
Holy shit. What if: Neville has Rowenas wand, Harry has godrics wand, Voldie has slytherins wand (if he and godric fought, then it would make sense for him to try and get stronger by using the same as godric?) and... actually, you know what makes more sense?
Neville: Hufflepuffs wand (herbology and all that)
Harry: Godrics wand
Voldie: Salazars wand.
Then...
Hermione: Rowenas wand?
*coffcoffreincarnationcoffcoff*
I swear a read a fanfic exactly like this... well...
How bouts: Malfoy: Salazars wand?

would fawkes have been around that long? i mean, yeah, he's a phoenix, but he left hogwarts when dumbledore bit it. it seems extremely unlikely. but, then again, for something extremely unlikely, it could happen. Olivander has been around since before the creation of hogwarts. perhaps he knew fawkes back then. who knows?

I read a fiction recently in which Harry went to Voldemort's trial to testify against him, ostensibly. Instead he revealed that he had not destroyed all the horcruxes but that he knew where the last one was. He revealed that HP had indeed died on that dark night so many years ago. His body was then possessed and reanimated by a part of Voldemort's soul. He then drank a poison and promptly keeled over listening to the death wails of Voldemort. Therefore, it is entirely possible for Harry Potter to be an inanimate object.
