Hey kids. Happy Saturday. Just a few quick notes:

1: To the anonymous poster who gave me an LJ-gift, thanks so much! I return the sentiment and wish you the best of the holiday season!

2. If you've recently friended me and want me to friend you back, drop by and say hi. Also, I'm kind of curious as to how you found me in the first place, so if you want to share.... :)

2. Does anyone have any idea what I can get my mother for Christmas?

3. I'm not sure what I want to write today. Maybe I'll go through and fix things. Or respond to all those comments I need to get to. Or watch some DVDs. It's boring here in Vancouver right now.

One week and an hour to vacation!

Your icon rocks XD

Also, what does your mom like? Does she have a hobby you can get her anything for?

From: [identity profile] gale-dragoon.livejournal.com
Funny. I was thinking the same thing.

She could also try a good wine along with something in the 'tasty good' category.

Date: 2006-12-09 10:46 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] mhalachaiswords.livejournal.com
She's not into wine, but that's a good point. Some sort of beverage to go along with food? I'll have to see what I can think of there.... Do you drink herbal teas? What's good?

From: [identity profile] gale-dragoon.livejournal.com
Well I'm no tea expert but mint tea is an awesome tea for this time of year. Plus I've heard that it has medicinal purposes. With like, muscle cramps. It's supposed to be soothing. Maybe a nice darker chocolate kind of treat would go nicely with this? (if your Mom likes chocolate)

Green and white tea also go well with a lot of stuff but tend to be for things that have stronger flavors, seeing as these teas don't cover up the taste so much (at least in my own opinion).

Mint tea is an excellent idea. I do know she enjoys that. I don't know if she's ever had white tea before. I'll see if they have any at the tea shop by my place. Thanks :)

She knits, she watches TV, she gardens reluctantly. She's really into outdoor cooking like BBQ, but it's so not the season for that up here.

Oh! And she's really a fan of non-caffinated teas. Hrm. That might be an idea. Maybe.

How crazy is she about knitting? My sister loves knitting and she loves obscure knitting books.

Maybe you can find a speciality tea shoppe and get her some blend that she hasn't tried before and some knitting supplies then?

That's a good idea. A unique blend of tea :) Thanks!

Re: number 2...the second number 2. Is she at all fannish? (by which I mean, is a DVD of [much-loved movie/tv series] a possibility?)

Or does she like, eg, detective fiction or something? (bonus points for a long-running series or prolific author!)

Date: 2006-12-09 10:47 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] mhalachaiswords.livejournal.com
Hrm. Not sure what she watches on TV, but I have a very good resource on that (hope dad's up for a call). Her book tastes are all over the map, so I might have more luck with DVDs. Thanks! I hadn't thought of that!

On the herbal tea front, I personally really like jasmine tea, the kind made from little rolled-up balls of jasmine flowers.

Good luck!

Hi! *waves* I recently friended you, though I've been meaning to do it for more than a year. Actually, probably closer to two years. I'm bad at actualy doing things. I can't remember how I found out about you, but I know it was at TtH.
I also know that because of you, I discovered Firefly, so I have to say thank you for that. :)

Cool. Good to meet you!

TTH is so amazing. I have so much love for that site and the great authors there.

I'm glad you got into Firefly. Such a cool idea and a great show :)

As far as herbal teas go there's quite a few to choose from. Spearmint and Peppermint are both good for a natural pick-me-up. Catnip and Lemon balm are good for a lazy evening when you just want to relax. Anything with rosehips is a good source of vitamin C.

My Mom likes jewelry, she has earrings and rings galore and the more different and unusual the piece the better. If your Mom likes unusual earrings let me know, I have a friend that makes them. (sorry for the advertising…can’t help myself ^^; )

Hope I gave you an idea or two.

If she does like jewelry, I *make* jewelry. A sampling of my work is here: http://www.bylillian.com . If she has a favorite color or style I'm sure I can accomodate her.

And I friended you for the crossover crack! Saw your stuff on tth, decided to come straight to the source, so to speak. :-O

Oh, those look amazing! She's not really into jewelry, at least as far as I can tell... I'm never sure. She's enigmatic. Maybe one day I'll break down and ask her.

Crossover crack! I'm all about the crossovers... which I think is apparent :D

Hehe, two twos.

Any way...

1. Wasn't me. But I give you cypber cookies *plate 'o cookies*

2(a). ^-^ New Mhal fans come into the fold! Woot! (in a non-scary-cult-way *hides Frank the sacrifice*)

2(b). I ordered some weird CD my mother kept hinting she wanted. Its not come yet, so I worry Sir Terry Wogan is mocking me somewhere in the BBC radio station. So, I have no advice here, but to warn against buying CDs from Sir Wogan.

3. Smuh, its a weekend. Who cares? Be a lump. ^-^

I am also a fan of that icon. Stupid MySpace freaks. *snarl grumble*

Ooh, cookies.

Also, I can't count. We like stalkers. As long as they leave comments :)

I was basically a lump today. I can't recall a single thing I've done that was producitve. Oh, I went and bought a pepper mill. That was something.

I love this icon with all kinds of love.

Hmm don't know what your mum is into, but I find some sort of nice pottery work always goes over good. There are some really nice shops in Granville Island. There's also this really kewl glass blowing store there where you can get some neat stuff.

From: [identity profile] mhalachaiswords.livejournal.com
Granville Island is a good idea. She always wants to go to the Dragon Shop when she's there... maybe I can find some knick knacks.

Ooh, I'm on vacation next week! I can go there during the day and avoid the crowds! What a wonderful thought.

I love watching the glass blowing. I always feel as if I'm going to bust something when I go into the shop itself, though.

Date: 2006-12-10 04:45 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] mischiefcat.livejournal.com
Yeah the glass place can be pricey. They have these really neat blown-glass balls that you can buy and you can hang them on a ribbon in front of a window and the light shines through them and makes pretty. I got one for my mum one year and she adores it.
The dragon place is really neat too. I love that store.
I definitely vote for going during the day to avoid the crowds. Although this time of year there's no getting away from them.
Good luck :)

Don't know about your mother, but my mother is Super!Christian, so I just get her religiously themed car decals, and other adorable things they sell.

As for the tea conversation, I'm not a huge tea person, but I ran into this amazing concept a while ago. It was blooming tea. Dried flowers folded up so that as the tea brews, the flower blooms in the cup. Use clear cups for the best effect. So (if you could find it) maybe some of that and a set of clear glasses/mugs?

Oh, and I haven't friended you for some reason, but it made me think... and I finally concluded that I found you via Pomme De Sang :)

Two really great knitting books are 'Stitch 'n Bitch' and 'Stitch 'n Bitch Nation'.

Along with that you could get her some novelty yarns. I always love thos furry yarns. Wool and/or Alpaca yarns are always wonderful to recieve.

Other things you could think about are double pointed needles, stitch counters, stitch holders and a tote or basket to put her knitting in.

*hides knitting needles* Er...no! I'm not a knitter...really! *grin*

Another person who started reading on TTH and ended up here as well because I enjoy the commentary along with the stories.

If you go the tea route, can I throw in a huge rec for Upton Tea- http://www.uptontea.com/shopcart/home.asp Some really good fruit and herbal teas as well as the traditional stuff, and they'll personalize all thier standard-sized cannisters for no extra charge. They've gotten raves from everyone I know who has bought from them. (and they ship US to Canada for a flat rate)

Hi! I just friended you this past week, and you totally don't have to friend me back, my LJ is very very rarely updated and is rather boring when it is. I guess I would say I found you through your fic-ing, because I've been doing a lot of procrastinatory (even though that's very much not a word...) fic reading these past few weeks (finals study avoidance). So yeah, that's the story.

Date: 2006-12-11 09:18 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] mhalachaiswords.livejournal.com
I already friended you back :) Mostly everything is outside the f-lock here, but sometimes I'll put fic-related rambles up behind the lock, so I like to know that the people on the other end are actually human and interested in the fics :)

And I hear you on the use of fic to avoid homework. That sums up a lot of what I've been doing in recent months.

Hey, I've been meaning to friend you ever since I made my last comments here, just so I don't look like some random weirdo turning up.:D In fact, I've been meaning to comment on some of your fics but uni just sucks up so much of your time. *dead* It's all over now, Christmas break's coming up and I can spend even more of my life on the 'net lol.

Followed you here from crossoverfic I think, and stayed for the other crossover goodness. In fact, you probably dragged me past casual viewing of Supernatural into something more serious. :D

My third attempt to comment....along with the tea a combo gift that is nice are teapots like this...

http://www.amazon.com/Certified-Intl-Twilight-Snowman-Individual/dp/B0007N4XBW/sr=1-6/qid=1165859675/ref=sr_1_6/104-8584111-8640757?ie=UTF8&s=home-garden

A bunch of the coffeeshops around here have them in cute holiday designs for the same $10-$15. It makes a nice combo gift with the tea.

Even if she never uses it as intended, it makes a cute holiday decoration.
