Crossover OTPs are the bestest thing since sliced bread. We don't need no stinkin' plausibility!

In other news: Since I'm not doing anything else at 1:09 am on Boxing Day, I've updated the the 2006 Mhalachai fanfic listing. It's really amazing to realize how much I've written this year, and how varied everything is. I mean, a Anita Blake/Lord of the Rings crossover? Wacky HP/SGA fun? How much have I been enjoying this year in crossovers? Seriously, go skim the list. There's some fun stuff there.

Please note: This does not mean I'm not writing anything else in 2006. I have big plans for this week. At least something will come out of Mhalachai land (no Gilmore Girls crossovers, I promise) (at least not yet)

I should go to bed now.

Rec post!

First off, in my patriotic mood:

I am Canadian!" An SGA parody vid, in which Rodney McKay is proudly Canadian (to the tune of that Molson ad).

Then some SPN recs:

First off, a crossover.

The North Side of My Town Faced East (And the East was Facing South) by [livejournal.com profile] mcee
Summary: You couldn't make this up if you tried... or could you?
Fandoms: Supernatural & Gilmore Girls
Rating: PG

Mhal says: ZOMG character slippage! Or whatever you call it when the characters played by the same actor play together in crossover land. This one is just excellent, because of the whole premise (SPN v Gilmore Girls!) and the last line.

Then a fic that is a) Wincest, of a sort, and b) may not be safe for Australian readers due to references to underage sex.

you always did prefer the drizzle to the rain by my fave Supernatual author, [livejournal.com profile] flipmontigirl
Summary
Characters: Dean/she. John.
Warnings/Ratings: NC-17.. et. Wincest. Underage sex.

Mhal says: I"m probably going to hell for this one. But as with everything [livejournal.com profile] flipmontigirl writes, I'm fascinated. Her use of language, the realism of characterization involved... Love.

And two bonus SGA recs!

Fitting In by [livejournal.com profile] ana_grrl
Summary: Atlantis isn't the SGC.
Rating: R
Mhal says: aka Lorne/Everyone in Atlantis except Sheppard (So not making this up). I like this as Lorne is my fave redshirt. He's hot and shiny and got that grin. Oh baby.

Lantian-journal by [livejournal.com profile] mklutz and [livejournal.com profile] ana_grrl
When you transport a large body of nerds to a different galaxy, you have to expect that they’ll miss some of the comforts of home. Favorite DVD collections (even if they did have everything downloaded to back-up hard drives), SciFi Fridays, their book collections, figure collections, memorabilia collections and, most of all, the internet. So obviously Rodney set up a local AtlantisNet pretty quickly. Every person in the expedition had an allotment of personal space and a large portion of space was dedicated to various in-city net programs, including the bane of Rodney’s existence: LantisJournal.

Mhal says: I loled. Hell, I even rotfloled. This is why you should never livejournal at work! (Especially if you work far, far away)
mhalachai: (Default)
I wrote 1800 words of crossover goodness today, but then work derailed me. Hiatus tentatively called off on account of writing. Will advise.

Some Supernatural fic recs, because the fandom is just so shiny. No rhyme, order or reason. Let me know if you have others, KTHNX.
Also, if there are episodic spoilers, I'll tell you. Behind a cut because I'm feeling shiny )

Also, a great weekend idea, snagged from [livejournal.com profile] ithidrial:

This weekend, pick out three of your favorite writers, those you’ve been reading regularly --- probably for *years* ---and send them a private note telling them you’re out there. Just that. Even if you’ve never, ever done it before. Even if you write yourself. Any fandom, all your fandoms, etc.

(And when I say your favorite writer, I don't mean me. This is not a plea for attention, although if you want to say hi to me, you can do that to. I'll say hi back, and we can have a great big hi-fest.)
mhalachai: (Default)
As an aside, in case anyone is interested, I've update the list of my 2006 writings here. I have to say, I've written a lot of varied and interesting things this year, emphasis on the "lot". Feel free to peruse the old listings :)
mhalachai: (Default)
Hey s'up folx. Some stuff:

1. Fic recs! I updated the HP/AB crossover list today. read the new ones here )

2. A Farscape vid rec: Don't Panic by [livejournal.com profile] ascian3. It's for all four seasons and it's beautiful. (Also here)

3. This whole working thing is hard. Fic soon. Also? Ikea is evil. They take all my money.
mhalachai: (Default)
The next chapter of Inevitable will be out tomorrow, and I know this because I am halfway through the chapter now and I know exactly what I need to finish before posting. It'll be an odd chapter, with characters moving in odd directions and having the final piece of the puzzle laid in for the story finale. Plus, full moon.

Now, two recs.

Firstly, an X-Men movie fic that came out before X-Men 3 and is quite possibly the creepiest thing I've ever read. It's brilliant and I wish X3 had been like this. It's Jean-centric, told through Scott's eye.

Bring Out Your Dead by Apathy.

~~~
Now, a book rec, actually a series recommendation. The Smoke series by Tanya Huff ([livejournal.com profile] andpuff) is a follow-up to the Blood series, centring on 24-year-old Tony Foster, former street kid and current Production Assistant on a vampire show in Vancouver (mad props to the home town, yo). Tony finds the whole thing rather surreal, especially considering he's friends with 450-year-old vampire Henry Fitzroy.
These books (Smoke and Shadows, Smoke and Mirrors, and Smoke and Ashes) are horror/comedy/drama and are, on all counts, fantastic reads. Smoke and Ashes just came out in June, so you'll only be able to find it in hard cover, but do yourself a favour and pick these books up for a read.
Hey everyone. I'm a reccer for [livejournal.com profile] stargateficrec this month in the (can you guess it?) Crossover category. Of course, I'm blanking. So, a request:
Please recommend good Stargate SG1 or Stargate Atlantis crossovers to meeeee. Yes, they can be your own. I'd like it if they were completed, but you can't have everything.
I want material, folks, and I know I'm missing some good ones! (Sadly, the one SG crossover I can pull out of the air is Bridges by Tassos and it's been recced.)
Off to write. Really. (As an aside, I did a possessions purge yesterday and rearranged my apartment. It's like a brand new house, and it's awesome)
Fic Rec!
mhalachai: (Default)
For all of you lovely people, I have a crossover fic rec. Fandom? Tir Alainn and Merry Gentry
Plus it's by Houses, so you know it's amazing. I highly recommend. Act I is complete, with Acts II and III to follow.
Title: Gathering Gloom
Author: [livejournal.com profile] houses_on_fire
Universes: Tir Alainn and Merry Gentry
Pairings: Morag/Sholto, Meredith/everyone else. No, I’m not kidding.
Rating: PG-13
Timeline: Post Tir Alainn trilogy, Post book 4 MG.
Disclaimers: Tir Alainn belongs to Anne Bishop, Merry Gentry belongs to Laurel K Hamilton
Summary: Taranis uses forbidden magic to call an assassin he believes will finally settle his Maeve Reed problem. Only thing is, said assassin has a mind of her own and isn’t particularly pleased to be back from the dead.
mhalachai: (Default)
1: Four AB drabbles are up to do with mouths HERE (go R&RPLZOMGTHNX)
2. Another New addition to the AB/HP list: Intrigued:Edward takes a contract on Harry Potter and witnesses the final battle with Voldemort. So begins a partnership filled with respect and colored with obsession. Throw in a trip to America with a helping of vampires and werewolves just to be unsafe. (NC-17) WIP by [livejournal.com profile] kkcme.
Then the funniest thing I've written in a year. Maybe.
Take Me Out
A Stargate Atlantis ficlette
Summary: Sheppard tries to explain baseball to Teyla, especially this one team on Earth with really interesting nicknames. Teyla falls for it. Rodney chokes.
Rating: G as G can get.
Disclaimer: Sony and MGM own all things Stargate Atlantis. I'm only borrowing and will return them at the end of the fic.
Setting: Immediately after "Intruder" (2.02), no spoilers for anything.
Word count:: 1,108
Note: My total and sincere apologizes to Abbot and Costello.
Take Me Out )
mhalachai: (Default)
A couple of fics, and a realization about me.
Okay, first: Two additions to teh AB/HP fic list, just in time for Danse Macabre to come out on Tuesday.
Author
Story
Ashalrospeak Holiday: A medium-sized group of Hogwarts students (plus one professor) are going on a field trip . . . to St Louis. WIP
[livejournal.com profile] killingcorvis Silver Bullets: Remus Lupin has been advised to call for some unlikely help. He contacts Anita Blake and her werewolf pack to help him in the fight against the Dark Lord. WIP
Another is in the wings, but I wanted to ask the author about it first.
THEN: the realization, about me and writing fic and how pairings aren't all they're cracked up to be and how writing sex in fic is not a thing I can do unless it's dysfunctional sex then someone bring the whip and handcuffs. plus a Secrets postcard. )
I'll start on those summaries for dummaries tomorrow.
mhalachai: (Default)
Full-Body Possession
A Stargate Atlantis ficlette
Summary: Contains spoilers for season two, so cut to save Laney's eyes :) )
Rating: PG for swearing
Disclaimer: Sony and MGM own all things Stargate Atlantis. I'm only borrowing and will return them at the end of the fic.
Setting: After "Long Goodbye" in season 2 (spoilers for the episodes to that point)
Characters: Team Shepp + Zelenka = twu wuv
Word count:: 550 ++
Note: I'm in a peculiar mood. Also, I'm trying to figure out when the AB series jumped the shark (or if it will with the publication of Danse Macabre -- only time will tell) so I'm wanting to stab all my AB fics. In the head. Repeatedly.
Full-Body Posession )
Having said that, go read the awesomest Harry Potter/Stargate Atlantis crossover eva: Different Kinds of Magic by Rokeon. (One-shot, hilarious)
mhalachai: (Default)
3,187 words of Inevitable 69 are written, and while I'm not sure how much of this I'll end up keeping, it's still coming along.
But the point of this post is something different. It's a crossover fic rec for my fave new fandom, Stargate Atlantis, along with Stargate SG1 and Supernatural. It's a one-shot AU fic by [livejournal.com profile] laniew1:
Journey's End
by Melanie/[livejournal.com profile] laniew1
Summary: Dean was ten when he realized that his father viewed him and Sammy differently.
Rating: R for language
No pairings, but some slashy subtext.
Oh, I love new fandoms! Anyone know when season 2 of Atlantis comes out in Canada?
mhalachai: (Default)
I know, I know, some of my posts in recent days have been fic recs, but that's for a reason! Fanfic is cool. And it's a long weekend in Canada, so you should partake in our laziness.
But about that fan rec:
Remnant by [livejournal.com profile] cissasghost, prequel to an Anita Blake/Underworld crossover (this section is all Underworld)
Summary: In the aftermath of the end of the Corvinus' line, Selene finds that the world is not quite as she thought it was - again. (Underworld Evolution spoilers).
This is awesome in so many ways, because Sonya delves into the biology behind the supernatural, and as always, her Selene and Michael are spot on.
In "me" news, I'm working on the next chapter of Inevitable, and then I'm not sure what's next, so I'll poll you:
[Poll #733272]
Magnolia has to be finished before Friday, so that's going to be happening in here as well. Busy week I've got planned :)
mhalachai: (Default)
Hey folks. I'm getting to comments, I promise! Just a note that there will be a minor fic delay (a few days) as I have a very important meeting I need to prep for. I'll be back with new fic by Sunday at the absolute latest!
Plus a rec: A fun Firefly/Buffy the Vampire Slayer Xander-centric crossover:
Carving Out A Future by [livejournal.com profile] dreamfall_ff/[livejournal.com profile] dreamfall_nnwm: Her crew doesn't know that Serenity's new passenger, a carpenter with an 'unusual upbringing', is a relic from the past. And Xander's not looking for trouble. Then again, neither are they. Not usually,leastwise. It just tends to come calling anyway.
It's fun times!
*zips off*
That was a great Mother's Day. Never was I so glad I moved out of my parents' house; it makes going back for a visit into fun.
But wait, there's more!
A Harry Potter drabble for [livejournal.com profile] hp100, on the theme of mothers: Post (Lily-centric). Click and read :)
Next, yet another fic rec!
An outstanding River and Nathaniel (Firefly/Anita Blake crossover) from [livejournal.com profile] cissasghost on "Dress Up". Features Micah spoilers. It's amazing and stunning and you totally need to go read it.
That's all the links for today.
ETA: I so totally lied. [livejournal.com profile] moiraithanatoio has a new chapter of the AB/HP crossover Bow to Death (chapter 3) up and has a great plot angle. I can't wait for more.
mhalachai: (Default)
Remember how I keep promising a chapter of Inevitable?
Remember how great I am with self-imposed deadlines?
Yeah.
It's coming soon, I promise! I'm halfway there.... but I'm taking the time deadline off the table. Perversely, I'll write faster that way.
In the meantime, have a fun fic rec:
Title: Shoveling
Author: PaBurke
Fandoms: Buffy the Vampire Slayer and M*A*S*H (yes, you read that right)
A series of drabbles (s/he's up to 57 chapters!) in which Dr. Hawkeye Pierce gets drawn into Scooby life. Trust me. It's good.
mhalachai: (Default)
First, a Firefly fic rec: Brotherly Love 6 snapshots of Simon and River by [livejournal.com profile] dodo31. A look at Simon and River's relationship over the years. The first one had me laughing out loud at the computer. It starts off like this: Simon Tam loved his sister, and vowed he always would. Even if he didn't think she was human. *nudges* Go read.
Then, a note. Morena Baccarin is 27 days older than I am and about a zillion times hotter. I need some Inara screenshots. Anyone got any?
Now, a Harry Potter poll:
[Poll #725277]
mhalachai: (Default)
And an excuse to use this icon.
1. First, an Anita Blake fanfic awards pimp.
The Sanguine Addiction Awards are accepting nominations for all kinds of AB fics. I heard from the person who's running them, and she's extending the nomination date for a bit. Go nominate people and fics of all kinds!
2. Added two stories to the Ginourmous list of Anita Blake/Harry Potter fanfic, which is fast becoming really and honestly big.
[livejournal.com profile] moiraithanatoio
Bow to Death : Harry is looking for peace and the ability to control his power. He finds it in the most unusual of places. (Harry/Snape/Asher, NC-17) WIP
Note that this is linked to the first chapter on [livejournal.com profile] moiraithanatoio's LJ
[livejournal.com profile] catherinecookmn
Mary's Story: There is always a story to be told, and it's time to hear Mary Evans' side... Part I Part II Part III
3. Went on a friending rampage. Hi everyone!
(Hi Dr. Nick!)
4. I updated the 2006 fanfic listing, so if you want to see all of what I've written this year, check it out: 2006. If you want to see last year too, well, see above re: 2006 -- 2005.
I'm *still* responding to comments on fics and such... I'll get to them, promise! Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm late to meet someone :)
mhalachai: (Default)
*screams*
The words! Will not flow!
ETA4:21pmPST: Okay, the application for the job is off. Why so quickly? Because it popped up on Monster yesterday, but according to the company web site was due in by SUNDAY. So it's off, and hopefully before the place closes today.
PDS is down and I don't know why.
If you're into that sort of thing, there's a SG-1/HP crossover going on over at the pit of voles (am I using that terminology correctly?):
by All Roads Lead 2 Coffee ([livejournal.com profile] stress100) The Boy Who Reminded Them Of Daniel: Take Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, Hermione Granger, Neville Longbottom, Jack O'Neil, Daniel Jackson, Samantha Carter, and Teal'C, mix thoroughly, garnish with bacon, and serve to an unprepared Severus Snape.
It's at chapter 10 right now and it's a fun way to spend 20 minutes (it's reeeeeally short).
rec! x2!
Apr. 5th, 2006 09:56 pm
mhalachai: (Default)
[livejournal.com profile] watcher457 has done it again, with an Inevitable ficlette called Once Bitten. It's Harry/Asher.
O_o
Go read, it's fun like yesterday. *pokes* Go.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Also, if you're into Snarry... hell, even if you're not, go check out Snape: the Home Fries Nazi (Snape/Harry, NC-17) by [livejournal.com profile] pir8fancier. And go read [livejournal.com profile] maeglinyedi's rec first, she says it so much better than I do.
